While an animal`s picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don`t Shop.

Story
Meet Sweetie, a three year old Australian Cattle Dog mix.Sweetie is a great medium size at 37 pounds. This girl is really fun to have around and walks pretty well on her leash for being new to the facility. She is a bit of a spaz (in the best way) but with her breed mix we wouldn’t expect any different. This silly girl loves her treats and will “sit” for them. We adore her and know you will too. This pet is available for adoption on 10/14/2024 at 11:37 AM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Jethro is a spirited 7-month-old Heeler mix who’s looking for his forever home. He’s an incredibly sweet, energetic, and intelligent pup who is eager to learn and explore the world around him. Despite his tough start in life, having been abandoned by his previous owner, Jethro is full of love and ready to trust again.Jethro’s playful nature and curious personality make him a great companion for someone who enjoys outdoor adventures, daily walks, or even some fun fetch sessions. He’s still in his “puppy phase,” so he’s working on his manners and loves any opportunity to bond with his humans. He’s quick to learn, so with a little patience and training, he’ll thrive in a structured environment. This brave little guy is good with other dogs and enjoys the company of new friends. While he may take a little time to warm up to new people due to his past, once he trusts you, Jethro is the loyal and loving companion you’ve been looking for.If you`re looking for a smart, energetic, and affectionate dog to add to your family, Jethro could be the one! He just needs someone who will show him the love and care he deserves after a rough start. Could that be you?

Story
Dakota is a very bubbly and friendly blue heeler border collie mix! She is 14 weeks old and has her first 2 shots administered at the vet. She also had deworming treatments. I rescued her from the coastal parking lot, they were giving away a litter of puppies off a flat bed truck. I asked if she had her first round of shots and they said yes. Just to be cautious I would still get her last rounds of shots. She can do the following on command: sit, stay, shake, and place. She has been kennel trained and loves to meet new people and dogs. She also is very friendly with our kitten! I truly don’t want to let an amazing dog go, she has a heart of gold and a shining personality. Unfortunately I will be taking on 12 hour shifts and fear I wont have the time to give her a fulfilling and exciting life. She would best suit someone or a family with a fenced yard or someone who has cattle! My hope is she goes to a very loving home, where she is considered family💗

Story
Born October 30, 2022 Red Rover is a young red heeler with neurological issues. Our vet suspects a mild form of Cerebellar Hypoplasia. Cerebellar hypoplasia is a neurological condition in which the cerebellum—the part of the brain that coordinates movement—is smaller than usual or not completely developed. For Red Rover, this looks like small steps when walking, a lack of confidence when moving, and he absolutely HATES being picked up. Red Rover will need another confident, friendly dog in his forever home to boost his confidence and show him the ropes in life. He currently lives with dogs of all sizes and cats. Red prefers the company of other dogs to his human family members, but he is a friendly little guy. Despite the extra pep in his step, Red is a smart boy who learns routines quickly. He is not your typical, active heeler and would not succeed as a working dog. He loves to chew on bones (or anything he can get his little teeth around), wrestle with his dog friends, and lay around the house. If you are looking to open your home to a special needs dog, Red Rover may just be your guy. If you have another friendly, confident dog, a fenced yard, and older children who can respect Red’s special needs, submit an adoption application at www.mikeyschance.com.
