Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Let me introduce you to Annie ❤️   Annie is a beautiful Red Heeler with a heart to match. While she’s been raising her puppies, she’s also been showing everyone exactly who she is—and it’s something special.   Her foster mom says if she didn’t already have five dogs of her own, Annie would be staying. That alone tells you everything you need to know.   Annie has all the best traits of a cattle dog—she’s smart, attentive, loyal, and deeply connected to her people. She’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of your world, whether that’s helping you with daily life or simply being by your side.   And underneath that classic Heeler intelligence is a very sweet, gentle soul. She’s loving, steady, and has done an incredible job raising her puppies.   Annie is ready for a home of her own now—a place where she’s not just the mama, but someone’s heart dog.   If you know and love the spirit of a good cattle dog, Annie may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.   Apply to adopt Annie and give this wonderful girl the life she deserves. Thank you for checking out our wonderful orphans. We try to post videos for each pet so you can really get to know them. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Here we have a very special group of pups ready to find their forever homes! ❤️ Their mother is Annie, seen here. The puppies are Madison, Bunny, Amber, Samantha, all girls. The boys are Barney, Merrick and Bailey.   Their mama is a beautiful, sweet Red Heeler with the gentlest soul. She has been an incredible mother—loving, patient, and devoted—and her puppies are following right in her paw prints.   These little ones are what we like to call All-American mutts—a perfect blend of who-knows-what and all the best things. We’re seeing hints of Aussie, Lab, Spaniel, and maybe a few mystery admirers along the way. (Fun fact: dogs can have more than one daddy in a litter, so their unique looks are part of their charm!)   What we do know for sure: ✨ They are incredibly sweet and affectionate ✨ Smart, curious, and eager to learn ✨ No food or toy aggression ✨ They play beautifully together and have wonderful social skills   These pups have been raised with love and it shows. They are well-balanced, happy, and should do wonderfully in a variety of homes—whether you’re an active family, a quieter household, or somewhere in between.   If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a heart full of love (and maybe a little bit of mystery mixed in), one of these babies just might be your perfect match.   Apply to adopt and come meet your new best friend! Story
Meet MUMBLES! Mumbles is a 3 year old cattle dog mix. He is such a affectionate pup but does require an owner who understands the needs of his active breed (heeler/cattle dog). Mumbles is still very much a puppy and is VERY active, he can jump high so we do require applicants to always have him on a lead unless he's inside a 6' or higher fenced in yard. Mumbles is NOT good with other animals and needs to be the only animal in the home. He IS great with humans, though, including kids. Mumbles LOVES his humans, loves to play and would love a home to cuddle up by your side after a nice run in the yard. He does great with kids, responds to recall, and listens to commands. Mumbles is very obedient and eager to please his humans. 🤪He is not a great dog to take neighborhood walks with - we do have a professional dog walker who does it successfully, but if Mumbles sees another dog, he WILL lunge towards them. Luckily he's not very big (~45 lbs) so he's manageable for most people. If someone were vigilant, neighborhood walks may be okay with head on a swivel or a quiet neighborhood, but Mums is super reactive to other dogs. He'd love best to have a big fenced in yard with a 7' fence - but barring that, a vigilant walker in a quieter neighborhood (no apartment complexes with shared courtyard area, for example) could work. Mumbles' adoption fee is sponsored in part by a fan of his who wasn't able to adopt because of other dogs, for the right home. This dog is part of a partner rescue in NY, and is available to a larger distance from us than normal - within a few hour distance from Rochester, NY, OR between Rochester and NYC area and closer to the NY tri-state area. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺ADOPTION AREA: Several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3hrs IS allowed), except the young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination in order to cross the border- usually around 16 weeks).

Story
AKIRA gets tons of praise from her foster. They say besides her beautiful looks, she's got a winning personality and loves others dogs (and great with cats, too!), and to play as well as a good snuggle. She's estimated young at 1-2 and fully vetted. She looks to be some kind of Corgi cattle dog type mix, and is fuly vetted and only 36 lbs, so a perfect lapful! She can be on the shyer side and really needs another playful dog in the home for confidence as well as a fenced yard.
