Story
This was from one of her recent posts. You can edit and remove things if you need too 😊Are you tired of going to bathroom alone? Need an exercise buddy? Searching for a protector to save you from brooms, vacuums and loud machines? Looking to add a little excitement to your life maybe? Well, look no further! Vera is ready to find her forever home, but has a few requests…- Must provide copious amounts of belly rubs.- Allow her to become your second shadow.- Must play with her and alllllll the toys!- No other doggies, please!- Needs a couch and endless snuggles.- Snacks, She likes snacksNow for the important details: Vera prefers to be the queen of her castle and requires a home with no other dogs, please. She has not been tested with Cats and we are unsure of her background as she was found abandoned. Vera is potty and crate trained. She also does very well out of the crate when left alone. She is looking for a home with a fenced in yard and no kids due to her herding instincts. She will come with her big Jolly Ball which she absolutely LOVES and will play with it for hours outside if you let her.Another important note: Vera is very fearful of strangers and needs slow introductions outside of the home first or will need to be crated when guests are over. Her new adopter will also need to agree on attending private training lessons with Nick at Critical Canine Development which her Foster Mom has graciously offered to Sponsor to ensure her new owner(s) understand Vera and her needs when it comes to other dogs and meeting new people.Vera responds quickly with an E-Collar and it’s recommended to continue the use of one even if it’s just set to vibrate. She upholds the Cattle Dog Stubbornness and tries to be a Boss Lady, but with continued training and patience she will reward you with so much love in return. I cannot stress enough that she REALLY does love her people and literally just wants to play and be given pets/belly rubs all day, every day.Do you or someone you know fit her needs? If so, please visit our website and apply today! Please submit an Adoption Application here: www.rocthedogsrescue.com

She’s not the kind of dog most people would call “fancy,” and she doesn’t need to be. Her beauty lives deeper — in her eyes, in her steady presence, and in the gentle joy that radiates from her heart. If you pause for just a moment and truly look at her, you’ll see it — the quiet grace of a soul that’s pure, loyal, and endlessly loving. Haumea stays right by your side, as if she’s always known that companionship is life’s greatest gift. Her heart is joy in its most honest form. She gives it freely and asks for nothing more than a place to belong. Whoever looks past the surface and chooses this beautiful girl will gain more than a dog — they’ll gain comfort, laughter, and a love so constant it will change their days forever. Story
Meet MUMBLES! Mumbles is a 3 year old cattle dog mix. He is such a affectionate pup but does require an owner who understands the needs of his active breed (heeler/cattle dog). Mumbles is still very much a puppy and is VERY active, he can jump high so we do require applicants to always have him on a lead unless he's inside a 6' or higher fenced in yard. Mumbles is NOT good with other animals and needs to be the only animal in the home. He IS great with humans, though, including kids. Mumbles LOVES his humans, loves to play and would love a home to cuddle up by your side after a nice run in the yard. He does great with kids, responds to recall, and listens to commands. Mumbles is very obedient and eager to please his humans. 🤪He is not a great dog to take neighborhood walks with - we do have a professional dog walker who does it successfully, but if Mumbles sees another dog, he WILL lunge towards them. Luckily he's not very big (~45 lbs) so he's manageable for most people. If someone were vigilant, neighborhood walks may be okay with head on a swivel or a quiet neighborhood, but Mums is super reactive to other dogs. He'd love best to have a big fenced in yard with a 7' fence - but barring that, a vigilant walker in a quieter neighborhood (no apartment complexes with shared courtyard area, for example) could work. Mumbles' adoption fee is sponsored in part by a fan of his who wasn't able to adopt because of other dogs, for the right home. This dog is part of a partner rescue in NY, and is available to a larger distance from us than normal - within a few hour distance from Rochester, NY, OR between Rochester and NYC area and closer to the NY tri-state area. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺ADOPTION AREA: Several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3hrs IS allowed), except the young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination in order to cross the border- usually around 16 weeks).

Story
AKIRA gets lots of praise from her new foster. They say besides her beautiful looks, she's got a winning personality and loves others dogs and cats, and to play as well as a good snuggle. She's estimated young at 1-2 and fully vetted. She looks to be some kind of Corgi cattle dog type mix, and is only 36 lbs, so a perfect lapful! She can be on the shyer side and would benefit from another playful dog in the home for confidence, and at this point in time she needs a fenced yard as her foster currently has one and she is not taking to the leash. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Cheyenne Blue Heeler / Lab Mix | ~12 weeks old | ~18 lbs Cheyenne is a confident, intelligent, and affectionate young girl with a wonderful balance of loyalty and independence. She’s the kind of puppy who makes you smile every day — bright, capable, and full of personality. She is incredibly smart for her age and is already showing great house habits, keeping herself clean and picking up on routines quickly. Cheyenne enjoys being around people and seeks out affection, but she also has an independent streak that allows her to entertain herself when you’re busy — truly the best of both worlds. She gets along beautifully with other dogs, reads social cues well, and fits in easily with a group. Whether she’s playing, exploring, or relaxing nearby, she carries herself with calm confidence and curiosity. We believe Cheyenne is a Blue Heeler / Lab mix, a combination known for intelligence, loyalty, and adaptability. These dogs tend to form strong bonds with their people while also being capable, thoughtful companions. Cheyenne would do wonderfully in a home that appreciates a smart dog who enjoys connection, routine, and inclusion in daily life. She’s going to grow into a devoted, well-rounded companion — the kind of dog who is always nearby, always aware, and always part of the family. If Cheyenne sounds like the kind of dog you’ve been waiting for, we’d love to hear more about your home and lifestyle. Thank you for checking out our wonderful orphans.
