Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lucky came to us as an owner surrender in March 2023. He was very shy when he first came to us so we didn't place him up for adoption right away. His former owners loved him but they never really let him do "normal" dog things. Lucky had never eaten dog food or even eaten out of a dish when he came to us! Our volunteers have worked really hard with him and he's now blossomed into a fun loving dog who loves to play and has learned how to "dog". He has been vet checked, neutered, and chipped. His fee of $150 is being sponsored by one of our volunteers. Lucky is looking for a very patient and experienced home. He's still shy with new people but has learned to overcome it a lot faster. He is a mix of two very smart and active breeds, both of which are known for keeping people on their toes. Lucky exemplifies both breeds with his energy level and his sometimes frustrating enjoyment of teasing and pushing the ol' envelope. It's all in good fun for him and you can almost see him laughing. He's a goober who loves to play but will settle in for some snuggling and hugs. A FENCED YARD is required for Lucky. His leash skills aren't the greatest yet so a fence will help to keep him secure. He does require some basic training in all areas but loves to learn and makes it a fun experience. An adult only home would be best (teens are fine). He LOVES the companionship of other dogs. Cats are most likely a no for him given his breed mix. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, AND spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 10:55 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Blu is a 6 year old red heeler who came to the shelter as an owner surrender in Oct., 2021. He's a quirky and fun loving dog who lived a life without any real boundaries or training before he came to us. Because of this, it took quite a while for him to settle in and become the happy goofball that we know and love. What a personality! He has finally been fully vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125.  FENCED YARD NEEDED Blu needs a home that is experienced with herding type breeds like him. They are not a dog for all people. On the positive side Blu is intelligent, fun loving, highly trainable, and incredibly loyal. Like a lot of herding breed types he's also laser focused on what he wants and is somewhat stubborn. He likes to be kept busy and enjoys a consistent routine. He needs an adult only home and would prefer one without other animals. Teens are fine. NOT a dog for apartment living. He enjoys car rides, too, as long as the destination is not the vet's office. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Please keep an eye on your emails after you apply. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lyra is about a year old and looks to be a shepherd/heeler type mix. She was found running loose, held for the LEGAL stray hold, and never claimed. She is very shy but becomes very loyal and loving companion once she's comfortable and secure. Lyra has been vet checked, spayed, chipped, and her fee is $150. Lyra has been adopted a couple of times and returned as she just hasn't been able to find the right fit yet. She is incredibly smart and learns quickly. However she does possess quite a few of the intense traits of a herding breed type dog. She is laser focused and needs both mental and physical exercise. She would love to have some type of job to do and would probably be a great candidate for agility training. She does tend to bond quite closely to one or two people and can be protective and territorial. Lyra needs an ADULT only home. She needs someone who is experience with herding breed types and their quirky personalities. She would love a home that is ready, willing, and able to continue with her training and helping her gain confidence. Lyra has done well with well mannered MALE dogs who respect her space. She does enjoy playing with other dogs once she's comfortable. Cats? Most likely a no. Cuddling is one of her favorite things. She's also in need of a home in which she won't be left alone for long hours. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. Story
Farrah is a cattle dog mix born in April 2023. She came in as a stray with another dog. Farrah isn't very fond of the other dogs here at the shelter, so it might be best, if you have another dog, to do a meet and greet first to see how it goes. She walks well on a leash and likes attention from those she considers her friends. Do you want to meet Farrah and become one of her friends? She would like to meet you! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Darling is a smaller cattle dog mix born in January 2021. She came in as a stray with another dog. Darling isn't very fond of the other dogs here at the shelter, so she would probably do best as an only dog. Darling is very smart and aware of everything going on around her. She loves people and loves attention. She walks well on a leash and rides well in a car. Darling is eager to find a new family and start a new life - would you like to be her new best friend? She hopes so! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. Meet Paris & London: A Story of Resilience, Love, and HopeSome rescue stories stay with you forever. Paris and London’s journey is one of them.Just a month ago, these two young dogs were barely surviving. They were found alone at a rural dump on a South Dakota reservation, their skin raw and bloodied from mange, infections, and the harsh winter cold. Whether they were abandoned or simply lost, we’ll never know—but one thing was clear: they needed help.Luckily, a dedicated group of women who have been rescuing animals in this area for over a decade got the call. And when they put out a plea for a rescue to step up, we knew it was Paws and Claws’ turn.Their road to recovery wasn’t easy. They required extensive medical treatment, care, and patience to heal both their bodies and their spirits. But as you can see in their latest photos, Paris and London are transformed. Their coats have come back, their eyes shine with trust, and their personalities—sweet, gentle, and loving—have truly blossomed. Now, at about a year old, these two are ready to start the next chapter of their lives. They are a bonded pair, meaning they will need to go to a home together—and after everything they’ve been through, they deserve nothing less. Their bond is unbreakable, and they find comfort and confidence in one another.Paris and London are kind-hearted, easygoing, and affectionate. They get along with everyone and have shown nothing but love to the people who have cared for them. They would make incredible companions for someone looking to add twice the love to their life. We’ve put in the work to get them healthy and happy—now, they just need someone to take them home. If you’re looking for two incredible dogs who have overcome the odds and are ready to give their whole hearts to a family, Paris and London are waiting.Could it be you?$400 adoption fee for the pair - plus $30 microchip fee each

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Argo arrived in November 2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota. He is about 3 years old does have a lot of the trademark features of mixed breed dogs from Reservations - "Rezzies", as they are affectionately known in rescue. Like many Rezzies, he could be a mix of cattle dog and German and/or Australian shepherd, just to name a few possible options. He's a handsome and very active dog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Argo has had some basic training and will require a lot of consistent exercise. This is of the utmost importance in order to keep him well balanced and happy. He is ready for action all the time but gets serious when leashed. He does pretty well on leash walks and loves car rides. He's an affectionate guy, too, who thinks nothing of climbing into a person's lap if he gets the chance. Argo would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. He's not a dog for apartment living. He's looking for an ADULT only, single person home as he tends to bond very closely to his person and becomes quite protective. No cats for him. He's incredibly smart and would be a lot of fun to train! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Aggie arrived from the city pound on March 3rd. She appears to be 3 to 4 months old and is an Australian shepherd mix of some kind. There could be some cattle dog in there and maybe some catahoula. She is lively, happy, and loving. Her adoption fee is $150 and this will cover all of her basic vet work as it becomes age appropriate (distemper/parvo vaccinations, rabies vaccination, microchip, and spay surgery). Aggie is a puppy and will require basic training in all areas. She appears to be a combination of a few pretty intelligent and active breeds so she'll need a lot of physical and mental exercise. She should be a lot of fun to train. We do think she'd be okay with other dogs and is young enough to learn to behave with cats. She might be too much excited energy for very young kids. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org.
