Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I’m Duke! I am a charming, happy, Cattle Dog mix.  I love to go for walks  or runs  (and I am really good at it!). I also love car rides, stuffed animals, and playing in a fenced-in backyard. I am completely house trained,  crate trained ,  and am very intelligent. I know what sit, lay down , and stay mean, but I could use some more training to work on those commands and anything else you want to teach me.  I love to run and play; I have a whole lot of energy, but I also love to cuddle, give kisses and be loved by my human companion .  Basically, I just like to be doing what my people are.   I am very cautious of new people. I really prefer to come check you out first, and I really rather you don’t pet me until I know you will treat me with kindness.  I may  have to meet you a couple times before  I know I can trust you .   I can’t tell my friends at Last Hope what happened to me before I came to stay with them, but all they know is that it takes me a while to trust people and be comfortable in situations.  Because of this, I should not be in a home with young kids or teens.  My dream home would be with an adult family who is familiar with my kind of challenges and who has a physically fenced in yard. I also want 1 other playful dog around my size (50 pounds+) or bigger  to play with (I can play a little rough so they need to be tough like me) and a family who is very patient with me while I adjust to new people in my life.  I am a very loyal companion and I just want to please my humans!   Once I know I can trust you, I just want to be around you and will be your shadow as you go through your day.  I have also had my DNA tested! I am officially an Australian Cattle Dog/Harrier mix!    Last Hope requires that all pets be kept as indoor pets, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives. Our adoption process includes reference and vet checks and a home visit. The adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 2, 2024, 11:48 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bear is a very handsome blue heeler, looking for an experienced dog owner to have a GREAT life with! Bear is super smart, and he loves to play with other dogs around his size. He requires a home with a playful and submissive canine companion near his size, he especially responds well to female dogs.  Bear is kennel trained as well as potty trained.  He loves to go for long walks and explore, he will make a superb companion for a very lucky owner! Bear does have stranger danger/reactive fears, he came to Last Hope very untrusting of people.  He has done great working with a firm and consistent handler, and will require this is his forever home but will likely always be initially reactive to strangers. Our volunteers have worked with him and found him to be a very friendly and affectionate dog, although he still requires slow and controlled introductions with strangers and will need an owner that appreciates his breed and unique needs.  No children, no cats and preferably a homeowner with a physical fenced in yard.  Bear's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, current vaccinations, and microchip.  last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, current on preventatives and vaccinations, and be altered.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 2, 2024, 11:48 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Ricochet! This handsome fella came to us as a local stray found just outside of South Amana. After completing his stray holding period through the Iowa County Pound, he has now began his intake processing to become an adoptable Safe Haven dog. Ricochet is estimated to be around 1.5 years old - lots of puppy-like energy & life in this guy! We are guessing he is a Heeler/Aussie mix (best guess), he has quite the eye-catching markings.. and just look at that BIG smile! Who could ever say "No" to that?! We don't think this guy will be with us long, he is a real charmer.  Not knowing where Ricochet came from nor what kind of living conditions he originated from, basic obedience, house training, leash training, and continued socialization skills should all be considered for in his near future. In the short amount of time with us at Safe Haven, he has come along ways in his comfortability of being indoors, walking on a leash, and accepting love & affection from our volunteers. He has become a quick favorite of many! He has proven to be a very intelligent boy and is always very attentive. We think he will pick up any future obedience trainings and a bathroom routine fairly quickly when transitioning into a home setting.  Ricochet has been brought up-to-date on his vaccinations, had an examination by a veterinarian, been microchipped, started on monthly flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, and will have his neuter surgery (10/16/24). We are giving Ricochet a couple days of recovery from surgery before heading off to his new home, so he will be officially available for adoption 10/19/24 following his neuter surgery.  If you are interested in meeting (or potentially adopting) Ricochet, please complete an online adoption application as the first step of the meeting process. This application can be found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the application has been submitted, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to discuss the next steps of the meet & greet process. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 10:00 pm

Story
Laredo is a DOLL. Possibly one of the cutest to ever exist! Laredo is basically a pint-sized cattle dog cross, and she couldn't be ANY better! Along with her petite size, gorgeous eyes, and the cutest grin; she's a sweetheart, through a through, her favorite thing to do with people are give kisses, cuddle, and relax at our feet, or of course, halfway on our laps. She makes for an amazing greeter-pooch as her wiggle butt couldn't get any quicker! Mabel weighs about 30 pounds or so, at 1.5 years old, making her that PERFECT size! She will be right at that size where she can join you anywhere, load herself up in the car, cuddle in bed, she doesn't mind! In fact, exploring, cuddling, and then sleeping is her day on repeat. She gets along with everything and everyone! We really can't get enough of her, and her wiggle butt! One of my favorite things about Laredol is how she just MELTS as soon as she starts getting loved on, it's beyond adorable. Due to her great manners, known commands, leash walking skills, AND her crate-training, it's pretty safe to assume Miss Laredo girl is house-broken, making her SO easy to get home, and transition seamlessly into your life!

Story
Matthew! The biggest snuggler around, his favorite spots are right in the crook of your arm, on your lap, or right at your feet; he will stay there for as long as you'll allow. He is the most content little man ever, only making a sound when he gets SUPER excited, but otherwise, he's just a lover. Matthew does love some playtime though, tug is 100% his favorite, but he can get down with swinging around stuffed toys, too! As handsome, and as lovable as they come, this mister man is a JOY. He will be sure to fill anyone's home with all the love that is needed! Matthew is already crate-trained, house-broken, and knows all of his basic commands! He is breezing right through puppy Pre-K and we couldn't be proud of this boy! If you're looking for a full-time cuddler, and part-time player, Matt is the boy for you! You're BOUND to be in love, if you aren't already! Just look at those big blue eyes! Did I mention that he LOVES dogs, kids, and even cats?! We ADORE him, and his stumpy little tail!
