Story
Miss Ellie was found walking across a busy highway in Caldwell, Idaho, on July 20, 2024. Efforts to find her people came up empty, and on Aug. 3 she delivered seven pups. Vets estimate her age to be somewhere between 1-2 years old. She weighs 40 pounds. Wisdom Panel DNA on one of the puppies revealed 77% Australian cattle dog, single-digit percentages of Mini-American Shepherd, Border Collie, Golden Retriever, Australian Shepherd, Collie. It is safe to say that Ellie is primarily Australian cattle dog. Ellie is house trained, quite affectionate and happy. She enjoys playing with other dogs, leaves cats to themselves; although, she will chase if they run. She’s high energy and quick, a fast learner, enjoys life with interesting outings. She eats up praise, tasty food, and lots of love. She wants to be with her people at all times and snuggles in close when it’s time to settle down. Ellie's adoption fee is $350 and includes spay and vaccines. At the time of photos, Oct. 13, 2024, South Fork weighed 14.5 pounds. His nickname morphed from talk about the T-shaped “brand” on his back. He’s intelligent and intuitive, almost house trained already, wants to please people. Butch Otter is a male puppy born August 3, 2024. Wisdom Panel DNA showed 77% Australian Cattle Dog, single-digit% Mini-American Shepherd, Border Collie, Golden Retriever, Australian Shepherd, trace% Collie. At the time of the photos, early November, 2024, Butch weighed 19 pounds. Good-natured Butch looked very much like a little otter in his first weeks; hence the nickname honoring Idaho’s long-time governor. Affable and entertaining, Butch doesn’t try to be a bigshot; he just enjoys being part of a pack and having fun. His caretaker says he’s adventurous, like a little land rover. He is what dog behaviorists call a “blank slate” – very much a desired trait. Butch will fit in anywhere, whether joining a family with dogs, or having a constant companion who will nurture him and bring out greatness that may well be waiting in his smart mind and winsome personality. Butch’s adoption fee is $300 and an additional deposit of $200 will be refunded upon proof of neuter, which is a requirement when he is between the ages of 6 and 12 months. Story
Meet Sailor! Sailor is a male, 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix. He weighs 58 pounds.Sailor arrived at the shelter as a stray. When he first came in, he was very scared and unsure of everything going on. As time went on and staff worked with him (and fed him lots of treats), he was able to gain confidence and he has warmed up immensely! He still needs a moment to open up to new people, but who can blame him? Once he gets to know you, he is incredibly sweet and wants to stay by your side. He still has some learning to do about being a dog in this big world, but he cannot wait to start that adventure with you! Sailor will need a home with kids 12+.Sailor will need an indoor home and a secure containment area to stay safe from wandering and escaping. Positive reinforcement, fear-free training will be needed. Daily exercise and mental enrichment will be very important. If you have other dogs in your home, we would be happy to arrange a meet and greet with your dog(s) to make sure everyone gets along. Sailor will need a home with no small animals.Sailor is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, neutered, and ready to go home today. The shelter is currently open by appointment only. Story
Liz, aka Lady Elizabeth, is an Australian Kelpie mix. She is approximately 3 years old and about 36 lbs. Liz is highly inquisitive and just the sweetest bundle of joy. We love this dog’s intensity. She is going to need an active family and lifestyle. She is a tough, resilient little dog. She is intelligent, eager and enthusiastic. Liz is great with other dogs! Though as an extremely social lady she occasionally gets a bit bossy, this results in her trying to herd her pals. She LOVES to play with her foster sister (a very dominant herder herself). They enjoy wrestling and will zoom around the yard with toys playing chase. Liz is housetrained and crate trained. She rides well in the car and loves going places with you. This social girl loves all people, occasionally is a little shy at first with strangers, but warms up quickly. We don’t know how Liz is with cats and she is probably a little too intense for young children. When Liz first came into rescue we noticed she was having trouble with one of her back legs, possibly from a previous injury. In November she had hip surgery (modified femoral head ostectomy) and is now fully recovered and has been released by her surgeon. This has not slowed Lizzie down at all, but due to this she is not a candidate for competing in agility. She would be great at other dog sports! It doesn’t impede her hiking and she doesn’t require medication or follow ups! When asked to sum up living with Liz, many things came to mind. I will miss her! She’s just a delight, cute and cuddly, rather an expert snuggler, but always up for a walk or play session. Her best characteristic is her happy energy. She enjoys her routine and will benefit from sticking to a more active life style. Since her surgery, she’s gotten even braver and her hilarious antics are going to light up someone’s life. She loves my female the most. They are always playing or cuddling. She’s hiked with a lot of my friends larger dogs and did fantastically (malamutes and vizslas). Definitely worth noting she is a passionate chewer. It brings her such joy! She can be a bit destructive with her chewing so we are mindful of things left on the floor. (We’ve only lost one slipper and after a redirect she has been the perfect house guest). She is insanely fast at learning and will just need some time to acclimate to her new home! She will come with some of her favorite toys! Elizabeth is a really easy keeper. She’s a true darling with the sweetest disposition. She deserves the best life! Liz's adoption fee is $350. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. If you are interested in possibly adopting Liz, please complete an adoption application located here: https://idawg.org/application.html

Gimli is an amazing dog! He is so sweet and loves people. He is a protector and will let you know when people are at your house. He does great with one dog when introduced correctly but no more than one dog. He is a hunter. He will eat birds, chickens and will try for cats. He is being rehomed because of his relationship with one of our special needs dogs. I would keep him If it weren’t for that. He is so sweet and loves to cuddle. He has been raised with young kids and will love them and protect them.
