Story
Meet Mou, a big handsome boy whose a little shy but has a lot of love to give when he opens up to you. Mou is patient, loving, and would prefer a home where he has a window to look outside and a bed to snuggle in. Mou is great with our whole family, including our 5-year-old, however he is a little shy but once he knows you he’ll come out of his shell. He’s handsome and loves his humans. Once Mou warms up, you can look forward to him caressing your face or arms while you snuggle! He’s so darn sweet! Mou’s original owner sadly had to leave him behind when he moved but he made sure he had a place to stay with us before he left instead of a shelter. It’s really important to us to find Mou the stable and forever home that he deserves.

Story
What's that rumble? Oh, it's Bumble! This playful boy loves to chase his ball around and be a wild cat. A rough and rowdy player, Bumble would do well with the company of another young and playful cat (for him to stalk and surprise!) or oppositely, an old, relaxed cat who won't mind his antics. Two years old and full of beans, he can't be picked up, needs his own space and will tell you, "No thank you" but far less politely. However, if you want to drag a string or feather around or throw his ball than he'll happily spend all day with you. Bumble is neutered and current on all shots, ready for his new home. If you've got room in your heart for an energetic wild-man who plays by his own rules and requires you follow them too, then take a chance on Bumble and make your appointment to meet him today. He is not the biggest fan of other cats, and does not like dogs, but he loves the attention he gets from people. Bumble is a 2-year-old neutered male For more information on Bumble, call AWS at 860-354-1350 email animalwelfare.socty@snet.net or visit our website aws-shelter.org for an application Adoption Fees for Senior cats (8yrs and up) is $50 Adult Cats $200 and Kittens under a year $250.

Story
Angela came to us from a house that had just a few too many cats! Not that she minded. Frankly Angela thinks cats make much better companions then people. She's still adjusting to the shelter and would fit well into a quieter home with multiple cats. She's just under a year old, spayed and up to date with her vaccines. She may be shy but that just makes it more rewarding when she settles in and opens up. It can take time but is so worth it in the end. Story
Meet Eleanor, a stunning 10-year-old tabby with a gentle heart and a longing for a quiet, loving home. Her journey hasn’t been easy—after her male owner passed away and her female owner moved into assisted living, Eleanor and six other cats found themselves at the shelter. The sudden loss of her family left Eleanor feeling shut down and heartbroken, but her resilient spirit touched everyone who met her. Now thriving in her foster home, Eleanor has begun to show her true, sweet personality. She enjoys exploring her surroundings, crafting perfect biscuits with her paws, and curling up in her tower for peaceful naps. Eleanor is wonderfully expressive—she’ll greet you with meows when she sees you or when she’s ready for her next delicious meal. Her affectionate nature makes her a delight to have around, especially for someone who spends a lot of time at home, as she thrives on companionship and your presence. While Eleanor previously lived with other cats, she’s made it clear she prefers to be the queen of her castle and would do best as your only pet. She tolerates the dogs in her foster home but would be happiest in a home where all the attention is hers to soak up. Eleanor is ready to leave her past behind and start a new chapter filled with love and comfort. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion to share your days, Eleanor would love to meet you! Her adoption fee is $200 and Eleanor is vaccinated, FIV/FELV negative, microchipped, and spayed. She also qualifies for our Senior-to-Senior program so if you're 60 years or older, you can adopt her for just $150. I acquired Max from an in-law who passed away recently. I am not exactly sure how old he is but know he is not a kitten. He is a peaceful cat, extremely loveable and loves all the attention he can get. He enjoys begging for human food at dinner time, absolutely loves eating shrimp with his humans. I'm looking for someone who can give him the attention and love that he demands.

Story
Our barn cat program is for our cats that take part in the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program but can't be returned to their communities because of danger or lack of care. These are our less social cats that don't crave the company of people, at least at this point in their lives. These cats are peaceful, easy to care for, and make friends easily with other farm animals. Pictured is our lovely Chula who was adopted as a mouser for the family chicken coop. The family followed the relocation instructions and Chula became queen of the land! Like Chula, many families that have adopted a barn cat report that the cats have become friendly over time and bonded with the other animals as well has the people. Most often, the cats are delivered in pairs by our volunteer that settle the cats in and provide instructions for you to follow. All agree that it is very rewarding to give a home and freedom to a less fortunate cat who just by chance was born without a human hand. Please fill out our application from our website and call 860-479-5173. Thank you!

Story
Cookie is our stunning, one of a kind beauty who will need a one of a kind person. As you can see in her video she really likes her catnip. She also really loves her foster mom and is always near her and cuddling with her, even under a blanket. Cookie is very possessive of her foster mom so she will not greet you with an arched back and happy tail. It took three days for her to warm up to her foster mom. Now, Cookie doesn't let her out of her sight. We do believe that Cookie has 'only kitten syndrome'. This happens to some kittens when they are taken away too young from their mom and are not around other cats. Mama cats are excellent mom's. They are so loving and they discipline their kittens and show them proper behavior. It's best that kittens stay with their mom's until they are eight weeks old. That's if they are not outside rescues, of course. In that case it's best to get them in as soon as possible to keep them out of danger and to socialize. Cookie does need a home because we can't afford to loose any foster homes. Adopting her would open a spot for a new rescue. That means you are really rescuing more than Cookie. We have kitties on the cold streets that need to come in. Please fill out an application for our beautiful girl at our website www.hucatrescue.org. You will get a kick out of her and lots of entertainment. YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR MEET & GREET THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 21ST. WE WILL BE AT PETCO, 188 KITTS LANE, NEWINGTON, CT. USING THE NORTH SHORE ANIMAL LEAGUE VAN. THE HOURS ARE FROM 1:00-3:00 PM. PLEASE FILL OUT AN APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE PRIOR TO THE EVENT. THANK YOU!

Not good with cats,
Story
Our sweet Annabelle is longing for a home or a foster home where she can shine and not worry about kittens jumping on her or other cats getting in the way of her attention. Anna's story is long and she has endured so much. She came to us from a nice person who took her in when her 'family' left her behind after an eviction. They thought she could live in an old barn nearby and that people would feed her. After some time, old barn was demolished and the kind person took Annabelle in but only to realize that she had a severe cat allergy. A peculiar thing about Annabelle that we noticed was that she did not eat much at all and if she had lived in the barn for months why was she never seen with kittens. Was she spayed or not? Nothing made sense. We waited for her tummy to grow then took her in for an ultrasound. Anna was not pregnant so we made an appointment for her spay surgery. An easy procedure that usually takes 20 minutes took our vet, a respected surgeon, two hours and the incision was the length of her whole torso! Turns out that Anna had a congenital growth around her ovaries that was pushing on her other organs. She could not get pregnant. The years of hormonal roller-coaster also contributed to mammary tumors. Luckily all of the biopsies came back benign. Yes, she's our $1000.00 girl! But, it was worth it. We got answers and we did the right thing for her because it was not her fault. It could all have been avoided if she had only been spayed on time when she was what we can only guess an adorable, spunky teenager. Anna also tested positive for FIV antibodies, another thing that could have been avoided had she been spayed on time and not chased by intact males. There is no doubt that she had pain and much discomfort but good news. Anna is eating like never before. She is enjoying her food and healing well. She's looking great. She has a strong spirit that seems to conquer all challenges. She has just one more challenge and that is to find that special person. Anna craves lots of attention and enjoys lap time and reading. She is quiet and not very active so perfect for a small space. Please fill out an application for our beautiful girl on our website at www.hucatrescue.org. Thank you!
