🐱🐱 Looking for a home together! See more photos & videos on Instagram @meowsfosters Juniper & Alder are a sibling pair looking for a home together, or as pair or trio with their brother Aspen. Juniper, the little sister, is an affectionate lap cat with her foster mom and a spunky girl! She is scared of new people and loud noises, and relies on her more confident big brother Alder. Alder loves being a part of everything going on, and adores attention and affection. He even stands on his hind legs asking his foster mom pick him up and carry him around! These are very bonded—snuggling together, grooming each other, and curling up in their foster mom’s lap. They are 11 months old, born at the shelter on 4/18/24, then raised in a foster home by their mom cat who's already adopted. Because Juniper is very shy with new people, they are looking for a patient, cat-savvy adopter. 🌳 To meet them apply here or at www.TheRescueTrain.org Please don't be shy and answer all the questions thoroughly! They are in a foster home in Burbank. Your application is used to set up a safe meeting and successful adoption. Los Angeles area adopters only please. 🌿Adoption donation is $200 for the pair total which includes they have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, flea protected, tested FeLV/FIV negative, and adoption gift bag with their favorite food, blanket, and toys.

Looking to adopt a pair of kitties? Super social brothers Mike & Bobby would love to meet you! They greet new people happily at the door to invite you in for playtime. Mike will even sit up to beg his foster family for his favorite... belly rubs on his white bunny belly! Mike is a big affectionate and laid-back guy. He adores cuddle time on your lap, and playing in cardboard boxes and paper bags, just like his brother Bobby. Bobby is happy to help you set the table for company, and he has great bed-making skills too. They will turn 3 years old on May 5, 2025 and are looking for a home together. To meet Mike & Bobby apply at www.TheRescueTrain.org. We ask you to answer all questions thoughtfully; it helps us set up a safe meeting and ensures a successful adoption. Mike & Bobby are in a foster home in Van Nuys. Los Angeles adopters only please. 🐾❤️

Louie is a handsome and social 4 year old American Shorthaired Tabby. His passions include eating treats and exploring outside. He loves people but he also gets along with other cats and even dogs. He is very tolerant to any new situations. He is even leash trained but he prefers to roam around the courtyard on his own - he will always come back home for treats! He enjoys the occasional play but he prefers to relax on a comfy elevated surface and get chin scratches. Sadly, Louie has a troubled past and has been returned to the shelter 3 times before he was found on the street. Louie would do best with an experienced cat owner who can help him to manage his anxiety.

Story
Meet Mimi, a beautiful, brown, striped Tabby with round, green eyes that are slightly crossed in adorable fashion! Mimi has been through a lot recently after going through some trauma with the foster, who she originally was placed with. You see, her family had to surrender her on account of their young son's recent cancer diagnosis. We're not sure what, exactly, transpired - in that foster home, before Mimi came to us, but she can be highly reactive to the presence of other cats. She may do best in a more calm environment with less animals. Perhaps with a retired couple or someone who works from home. I do have photos, from her original family, of her laying with and cuddling two, adult male cats. But it's hard to know how she'll react without a fair amount of time to adjust and be properly introduced to a new cat. Otherwise, she is sweet, gentle, highly-social and can even be a little on the "needy" side... rubbing her head and body into you or your hands. Mimi LOVES full body pets and scratches. She's the type of cat who'll probably run to greet you - when you walk in the door. You'll find her rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #33 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" (including video and photo updates on ALL our cats and kittens). Be sure to check out her adoption video and fall in L-O-V-E!! Mimi's adoption will include her: * Spay surgery, * De-worming, * FVRCP vaccinations, * Rabies vaccination, * Combo-test (for FIV/FeLV = negative), * Flea and mite treatment (with NexGard), * and Microchipping ~ $150. adoption fee, adoption contract and home check apply / $250 for a pair ~ * Please only contact us if you'll be making this cutie a permanent member of your household and will be keeping her safe indoors. ** We do not adopt out kittens or cats where they will be the only pet at home. Kittens rely on each other for emotional support and continued social and behavioral development. For example: another kitten or cat will teach them when they're playing too rough or biting too hard. Plus, cats and kittens get very lonely when you're not at home! Having a playmate will keep them happier, healthier and out of trouble. **We offer a discount when adopting a pair! *** You can also find all our adoptables on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" (including their rescue story, photos and video updates). Interested in becoming a much-needed foster? Please send us a message with your best contact info, the type of home environment you can provide and, most-importantly, the City in which you live. Thanks!

Meet VENUS a beautiful, brown, Tabby with stunning green eyes and small tufts jutting off her ear tips. Venus and her sister, Serena, were originally trapped on the campus of UCLA in May of 2021 - where they were born to a gorgeous, Lynx Point Siamese. They were living with a foster family who decided to keep them. Unfortunately, the single mom lost her job and they had to move in with family who had severe allergies. This is why they were returned. From their new foster mom, about Venus: * Loves to chill and relax... especially on window ledges or near you * Coyly affectionate, will meow and respond to pets with purrs * Likes belly rubs! * LOVES playing with the wand toy although her sister tends to hog it * Likes any foam or bouncing ball or chasing her mousey * Very food/treat-motivated * Likes running water and is intrigued with the bathtub, likes to dip her paws into the water bowl and lick it * Responds to “Veeny” Ideally, we'd like to adopt these two girls together, as a bonded pair. You'll find their complete rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #25 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties"... along with updates (including videos) on ALL our cats and kittens! Venus's adoption will include her: * Spay surgery, * De-worming, * FVRCP vaccinations, * Rabies vaccination, * Combo-test (for FIV/FeLV = negative), * Flea and mite treatment (with Revolution), * and Micro chipping! ~ $150. adoption fee, adoption contract and home check apply / $250 for a pair ~ * Please only contact us if you'll be making them permanent members of your household and will be keeping them safe indoors. ** We do not adopt out kittens or cats where they will be the only pet at home. Story
Meet SERENA, a beautiful, dark brown, Tabby with stunning green eyes and small tufts jutting off her ear tips. Serena and her sister, Venus, are around 3 years young and were trapped on the campus of UCLA in May of 2021 - where they were born to a feral, Lynx Point Siamese. Serena is, definitely, the more outgoing of the two. Her coat is also a little darker and she's more petite than Venus. This girl is very energetic and has proven herself to be an expert fly catcher and huntress. Her motor begins upon contact and she'll begin to knead her front paws when getting pet and scratched. She's especially cuddly and affectionate at bed time and in the morning... and will roll over on her back for belly rubs! She also doesn't "meow" so much as vocalize with chirps and trills. Her favorite toy is her little mouse which she'll carry around in her mouth and bring to you to play fetch. They were living with a foster family who decided to keep them. Unfortunately, the single mom lost her job and they had to move in with family who had severe allergies. This is why they were returned. Serena is very-much bonded with her twin sister, Venus, which is why we'd like them to be adopted as a pair. You'll find her complete rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #25 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties"... along with updates (including videos) on ALL our cats and kittens! Serena's adoption will include her: * Spay surgery, * De-worming, * FVRCP vaccinations, * Rabies vaccination, * Combo-test (for FIV/FeLV = negative), * Flea and mite treatment (with Revolution), * and Micro chipping! ~ $150. adoption fee, adoption contract and home check apply / $250 for a pair ~ * Please only contact us if you'll be making them a permanent member of your household and will be keeping them safe indoors. ** We do not adopt out kittens or cats where they will be the only pet at home. Story
Meet Starling, a beautiful, brown striped Tabby who has a gentle and loving disposition. When we first received the call to help her, all we knew was that she may be pregnant... which she was. Turns out she had been abandoned on the mean streets of South Central LA when her humans moved away, and she been fending for herself for over 4 years! We were able to get her safely spay-terminated and fully vetted. One of her canines had been broken so it was extracted at the vet office after her spay/termination. She's estimated to be around 5 years old and has become such a happy, content girl in her current foster home. Please consider opening your heart and home to this deserving girl who wants nothing much but a warm bed with someone to snuggle. We don't know how she'd be around dogs but she does get along well with other cats... especially females. You'll find her full rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #30 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" (including video and photo updates on ALL our cats and kittens). Be sure to check out her adoption video and fall in L-O-V-E!! Starling's adoption will include her: * Spay surgery, * De-worming, * FVRCP vaccinations, * Rabies vaccination, * Combo-test (for FIV/FeLV = negative), * Flea and mite treatment (with Revolution), * Recent dental cleaning with extractions, * and Microchipping ~ $150. adoption fee, adoption contract and home check apply / $250 for a pair ~ * Please only contact us if you'll be making this cutie a permanent member of your household and will be keeping her safe indoors. ** We do not adopt out kittens or cats where they will be the only pet at home. Story
Looking for your new, BFF? Someone who'll run to greet you, excitedly, the moment you walk in the door? A fun pal who'll hop onto your shoulder like a parrot? A cuddler on the couch or in bed? Then, CUPCAKE's your GIRL!! This cutie is truly one of the SWEETEST, most loving, playful and highly-social girls you'll ever meet... and she gets along GREAT with other cats. Cupcake will literally run to you, the moment she hears you approach... and if you don't pick her up, she's likely to hop right onto your shoulder or back... chirping, squeaking and vocalizing in adorable fashion. She'll be the perfect companion for someone who works from home, maybe an active, retired couple, perhaps a family with older children (grade school or beyond) - who'll have time to play with her and her favorite toys - like the ribbon wand or feather on a stick. Cupcake LOVES to play and her current favorite game is FETCH (see her video). If she climbs up onto your shoulder, it's likely she'll begin playing with your hair. Or crawling under your robe in the morning while brushing your teeth. She's also fascinated with running water in the bathroom sink. She pairs purrfectly with her companion, Tulip... or another young/youngish, friendly, playful feline, She's currently being fostered with a large-breed dog. With proper introductions, she'll get along with just about any cat-loving pooch. You'll find her full rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #28 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" (including video updates on all our cats and kittens). Be sure to check out her adoption video and fall in L-O-V-E!! Cupcake's adoption will include her: * Spay surgery, * De-worming, * Flea and mite treatment (with Revolution), * FVRCP vaccinations, * Rabies vaccination (if old enough), * Combo-test (for FIV/FeLV = negative), * and Microchipping! ~ $150. adoption fee, adoption contract and home check apply / $250 for a pair ~ * Please only contact us if you'll be making Cupcake a permanent member of your household and will be keeping her safe indoors. ** We do not adopt out kittens or cats where they will be the only pet at home. Story
Keanu is a charming, delightful, loving, and affectionate 18-month-old gray tabby boy. He is full of curiosity and personality. He gets along well with other kities and would love to sleep on a warm and cozy bed with his new family members. He is fully vetted (negative for FIV and FELV, up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed, and neutered). He is ready and willing to find his forever home. Save A Kitty, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) kitty rescue. Our adoption process is as follows: We require a completed application, a home check, and an adoption fee (with the amount depending upon the kitty). We will also discount the adoption fee, if an individual adopts 2 kitties at the same time. All of our kitties have been quarantined for a minimum of 15 days, had their shots, been tested for FIV/FELV, given parasite treatment, and will be spayed/neutered before being placed into their forever home.

Adopting a Tabby

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Tabby - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

You can adopt a cat from a shelter at a much lower cost than buying one from a breeder. The cost to adopt a cat is $25 to $100, which covers the expenses of caring for the cat before adoption. Buying an exotic kitten from a reputable breeder in the United States can be very expensive. Depending on their breeding, coloring, and look, kittens can cost anywhere from $500 to $5,000. If you are set on a certain breed, please also consider breed-specific rescues.

You can start by doing a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available tabby cats in your area.

Tabby fun facts

Fun Facts:

There are multiple theories about the origin of the name “tabby,” but one is that it refers to their silky coats: In the 14th century, silk was called “atabis,” which soon became “tabis,” which translated into the English word, “tabby.”
