He’s friendly with people, dogs, AND cats, making him the ultimate social butterfly (minus the wings… although, with his charm, he might as well fly).     Looking for a buddy who’s sweet as can be, adores life, and is ready to love you unconditionally? Then Merle is your guy. Don’t wait — apply today and scoop up this cutie before someone else does. Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
A true black beauty with a big heart and a bright mind. Onyx is friendly, loving, and deeply people focused. He listens well, picks things up quickly, and wants nothing more than your attention. He has no aggression at all. He simply wants to be close to his people and part of whatever is happening. He has been well loved and it shows in his manners and confidence. He is crate trained and continues to improve on leash. Walks are one of his favorite things. He happily greets people he meets along the way and mostly ignores other dogs, keeping his focus where it belongs. Onyx loves fetch and already knows sit, stay, and lay down. He is smart and eager, the kind of dog who enjoys learning and showing you what he knows. Onyx has lived successfully with three children and does beautifully with kids. He is patient, gentle, and engaged, making him a wonderful family dog. He would thrive in a home that has time to give him the attention and companionship he truly deserves. Onyx was adopted from OPH as a puppy and has been well cared for ever since. Due to unexpected medical and financial hardship, his family made the heartbreaking decision to return him so he can find stability again. He is ready to shine in a new home and give his whole heart to the next family lucky enough to choose him.

He’s from a former Fox Terrier breeder who passed away, but while they look like purebred Smooth Fox Terriers, we don’t have any paperwork and so they could be a mixed breed. Story
House trained: Mostly with an occasional accident Energy level:Low Noise level: Barks occasionally My foster guardian says: My favorite thing about Coco is just how tiny she is, and how much she loves her people! Likes: Cuddling under a blanket, napping, short walks, riding in the car Hi, Im Coco! My nickname is Coco Bean, because Im sweeter than chocolate, and as tiny as a baby bean! Im 7 pounds of love and cuteness, and Im so excited to find my forever family! As any distinguished Chihuahua does, I have some specific preferences. I like to be picked up in a certain way (dont worry, youll learn how), and I like to have my harness put on in a certain way, and I like to be pet in a certain way, and I like to sniff certain smells on certain routes on my walks! Some might call me a diva, but my foster mom calls me a pint-sized bundle of cuddles and says that Im the best girl ever and so easy to take care of. I promise I really am! Just a few quick walks a day are all the exercise I need, and Im very laid back and well-behaved at home. I can get a little anxious when my routine changes, so Im looking for a family who will be happy to keep things consistent. I also love to be with my people more than anything, so Im practicing staying home alone without getting upset. My foster family thinks Ill get better at this as I settle in, and gain confidence that they are going to come back when they leave. I live with a cat, and we get along fine, though let me just say, he has an attitude problem. He sometimes tries to snuggle my people, my people! Can you believe that? Somehow, I rise above and remain very civil with him. Im also pretty neutral towards other dogs as well. I dont usually want to play or even sniff hello, but Im fine with other dogs saying hi if they want. I really just dont have the time, myself. Ive got to get back to snuggling my humans! Speaking of which, Im really looking for a family who wants a snugglebug of a pup. I like to spend most of my time resting and napping, preferably in someones bed, with my people close by. I do get the zoomies on occasion, and like to run around on the bed with my toys. But after a quick play break, its back to napping for me! If youre looking to add a whole bunch of sweetness with a little bit of spice to your life, I might just be your cup of teaerCoco!!! Apply to adopt me today! Coco has a luxating patella and is on heart medication. Please visit our website www.ruraldogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing dog and to see other dogs available for adoption!

Story
This special little one year old chihuahua is called Magic Maude.  And especially sensitive little girl, that somehow got just a little too round and is on a dedicated exercise in nutrition program to drop some weight.  Currently, she is eighteen pounds and we field that she would be best to be in the ten to twelve pound range as a goal.  She originally was in a chaotic home that animal control had to step in and take away 112 chihuahuas that we're living in the home.  An unfathomable amount of dogs that were not altered, but yet healthy.  When mod came to our rescue and was put in a foster home. She lay there in her crate for days very depressed and emotionally unresponsive.  She barely moved from the one spot she lay in.   Eventually, after almost two weeks, she perked up with the company of few other chihuahuas coming to join her in her large crate.  Soon she was going on walks with the foster. Mom and seemed to enjoy the freedom of being outside, taking in all the new sights and sounds of the neighborhood.  We know she had never been leash walked due to the overcrowding at her original home.  This girl is spayed and healthy and ready to start all over again. She wants love and we promised her a great family who will love her and take her for walks and treat her like the Magic Maude that she is.  She is currently in Nashville, Tennessee, and can be transported to the northeast region as well. Please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue  at ccrnewengland@gmail.com  if you want to adopt or know more.  PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.November 7, 2025, 6:32 pm

Are you looking for a small dog that is small, fun, bold, and full of personality? If you’re searching for a dog who can fill your home with laughter, life, and non-stop joy, let us introduce you to Hercules. This 11 month old 18 pound Apple Head chihuahua is small in size but legendary in spirit. He arrives in every room like a burst of sunshine–ears perked, tail wagging, and a grin that makes it impossible not to smile back. Hercules has the kind of personality that changes the energy of a home. He’s curious, social, and always ready for adventure. Whether he’s sniffing new friends, checking out what’s happening around the corner, or trotting proudly beside dogs 10 times his size, he’s confident and fearless without ever being rude. He truly believes the world is full of potential best friends. With all that zest for life, Hercules needs a home that matches his pace — someone who’s active, engaged, and excited to enjoy a dog with real spark. He is not a couch-only retirement-style companion; he’s the type of dog who would happily train with you, hike with you, or keep you laughing all day with his big personality and expressive little face.
