Story
Beowulf is a 7 year old blue male with a docked tail and natural ears. He was adopted as a puppy by an experienced and loving owner, who through family circumstances must find a safer place for Beowulf. A new baby has joined his family and although he loves the baby, the combination of changes to his routine and the unpredictable nature of small children has caused problems. Both Beowulf and that baby are safe and in no hurry to part from one another, but it is clear that restrictions that have to be in place are affecting Beowulf's quality of life. Beowulf is on hypothyroid medication as well as anti-anxiety medication, which has proven to be helpful given his level of reactive anxiety. His medication costs are about 60$ per month with 3-4 medications given routinely and should be followed by a veterinarian experienced with these meds. With that in mind, Beowulf loves people and shows typical Doberman affection of following you everywhere and wanting to snuggle at any opportunity. He currently lives with 2 cats, a German Shepherd and a young Great Dane. Although he plays with the Dane, he can get overstimulated and a little sharp when that happens. Things that set Beowulf off are unexpected noises or disturbances, including people showing up unexpectedly or anything he doesn't expect that surprises him. Walks in places like a city or town can be disturbing due to other dogs coming around a corner in close proximity or something like a trash truck driving nearby. It takes time for Beowulf to process new stimuli and he will need a patient forward-looking person to help guide him in the future. He depends heavily on his people for reassurance and guidance so a patient understanding of his needs is a must. He does best with predictable routines. Beowulf is looking for a special needs experienced home with no other animals or mature, calm animals that will give him space to settle. Due to his anxiety, his owner has had him extensively trained and he is crate-trained and very well-mannered. He loves to learn and knows several advanced tricks like high-five, and roll over. He is a wonderful companion with a lot to give and a very sweet nature that requires love and understanding. Anyone who meets Beowulf will see that the love will come back their way 100 times over. A $250 adoption fee applies. Please go to http://www.dobermanrescuenm.org and complete an application for this sweet boy.

Penny is an all natural, 5 year old Doberman mix. She loves to cuddle, chase birds, go on walks, and play in lakes and rivers. She has a few dog friends, but needs some time to get to know them. She's nervous around cars, and likes to listen to gangster rap to calm down. She has not been around cats but she has a prey drive with small animals. Penny sees lots of kids at NMAF's foster clinic and loves them. No aggression toward people at all, except the mailman! A $195 adoption fee applies. Story
Lizzie is all natural, about eight months old, and is a typical, rambunctious, silly pup. She gets along well with other dogs, and is still a bit timid around strangers. Lizzie was found dumped in a parking lot, along with her sweet brother. A caring family took them in and found a home for her brother but are looking for a loving family for Lizzie. They cannot keep her as they are over the city limit. It is unknown if she gets along with cats but she does fine with older children. Lizzie goes into her crate willingly at bedtime and is housebroken. She spends most of her time in the yard, but does scratch to go out outside. Lizzie is just a baby and deserves to find a loving, forever family. A $300 adoption fee applies. Please go to http://www.dobermanrescuenm.org to complete an application.

Story
Three-year old Hugo was found as a stray in Roswell with an injury to his right eye. At first he kept the eye closed but after a few weeks of drops and anti-inflammatories, he appears to be more comfortable and is now able to open up his eye. Our vet believes Hugo has no vision in the injured eye but that doesn’t slow this boy down! Hugo is the sweetest, big lug of a Doberman, weighing in at 80 lbs. He is housebroken, crate trained and loves to ride in the car. Hugo enjoys chewing on bones and is a playful, energetic boy. He wants to play with everyone! He is not exposed to children or cats in his foster home but is tolerant of the small dogs. Please go to our website @ https://www.dobermanrescuenm.org and complete an application for this love bug! A $300.00 adoption fee applies.

Story
These 10-month old Dobie/Shepherd sisters were rescued a few months back, found abandoned in a box in El Paso. Bailey & Daisy have received their vaccinations and have been spayed. The girls know basic commands, are crate trained and housebroken. They get along with dogs and kids of all ages. They are sweet and friendly with everyone they meet. The sisters have never met a cat but did not react to the neighbor's cat through the fence. And they love water (must be their Shepherd genes .... 😉)! A $250 adoption fee applies. Lulu

Doberman Pinscher

Female, 9 yrs
Albuquerque, NM
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Good with kids, Good with dogs, Not good with cats, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Nine year old Lulu is now part of the DRNM family because a failed adoption from the city shelter brought her to us after she, unfortunately, ate one of the owner's chickens and has shown interest in the cats. Even though she is a petite Doberman, we were concerned about her emaciated state. She was given a clean bill of health and is slowly putting on weight. Lulu is a sweet, playful girl who enjoys car rides. We believe she has spent her life as an 'outside' dog because she is not completely housebroken, but she is learning quickly! Lulu is crate trained and gets along with older children and other dogs. She is an active dog for a senior girl! As is common with 93% of blue Dobermans, Lulu has color dilution alopecia (CDA), a genetic skin condition. CDA causes patchy hair loss and thinning, and can also lead to flaky or itchy skin. The hair coat may appear dry, dull, and poor quality. There is no cure for CDA, but treatments, such as good food and supplements, can help manage symptoms. Please complete an adoption application at http://www.dobermanrescuenm.com. A $150.00 adoption fee applies.
