Story
Howdy, my name is Atilla but my foster Mum only uses that when we’re practicing name attention, otherwise everybody calls me Tilly! I’m a very handsome and super smart, 2 year old, 80lb, male Doberman. I am being fostered in Vancouver, BC. I used to have a home of my own but due to a family tragedy I had to say goodbye to my baby sister and my original Mama- I lived with my Grandma for a bit before she surrendered me to Adoptadobe and my current foster Mum. I didn’t have a lot of city dog skills but I’ve been with her for a while now and we work on it every day. Our current focuses are leash manners, socialization and recall- my foster Mum is practicing for her dog training certification so she means business! I also have a bit of "stranger danger" that we are working on, and I am starting to let a few more people into my "circle" after slow and proper introductions. I am a typical velcro Dobe. I need to be involved in everything from laundry to shower time. My foster Mum says I am a really smart dog with loads of potential for a sports home if I can work through my reactivity - my arousal in the outside world was through the roof in the city because there was a person or a dog around every corner! I am currently taking Prozac to help me with this and have made tons of progress on my reactivity towards people and things, but will need an owner who can continue the work that me and foster Mum have done. I love people and I love to play with other dogs, but I require very slow and steady intros with lots of guidance. I would prefer a home without any other pets, but I have lived with a female dog of equal size in the past. I think foster Mum must be quite clever herself because I only had to bring her the ball one time and she learned how to throw it for me!  We both agree that I need a home with someone who can give me time and attention, without small dogs, cats or young children. I require a fenced yard for those days when walks and public spaces might be too much for me. I live with two cats now but I am convinced that they’re little ghosts living in the shadows- every time I see one I bark to tell everyone it’s there and then I run to get my foster Mum, but by the time we get back the ghosts are gone- my foster Mum says she wouldn’t trust me alone with them because I get so upset when they materialize in my space.  I really am the kind of dog that loves the stimulation of learning, so I would be delighted to help you out if you have a job for me. Anything that means you and I will be spending LOTS of time together is A Okay in my books. I settle well in a designated and puppy proofed room when my foster Mum goes to work but when she gets back it’s Tilly Time! I currently can’t be crated for more than 10-15 minutes, as I start to panic after that, but we’ve found a pet camera and closed off room works well. We’re still working on crating, but it’s not our top priority right now.   At my young age there is a whole world of possibility. I am longing to find my person so we can get started on our wonderful life together.  If you're someone who wants an intelligent, eager-to-please best friend, I'm right here ready for you. My current talents include SIDLE (recall), HUSTLE (let’s go/move), THAT’LL DO (enough), GET BUSY (toilet cue), SIT (tuck sit), DOWN (folding down), FETCH (I go crazy for chuckits), TUG and of course, SNUGGLE (I don’t even need to be told that one!).   Atilla has been neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $500. All adopters must agree not to use any punitive training methods including, but not limited to, leash corrections; pinning; alpha rolls; and prong, pinch, choke, shock, or e-collars.  Apply to adopt Atilla by submitting our adoption application at https://adoptadobe.com/adoption-application/. All adoptions require a home visit prior to finalization. Donate to Atilla’s care at https://adoptadobe.com/donate/. ##1831339##

Story
COURTESY POST on behalf of owners, located in the Calgary area.  To apply for Maeby, please submit an application at adoptadobe.com/adoption-application. All applications for Maeby will be forwarded to her owners for follow up. Maeby’s adoption fee is a minimum $100 donation to Adopt-a-Dobe.    Per Maeby’s owners: Maeby is an almost three year old fixed female dobe with a heart way bigger than her anxiety. She came to us at 6 weeks old after her mama had to have an emergency hysterectomy due to a postpartum infection. She was an affectionate yet nervous puppers from day one. We immediately started working with trainers and dog daycares/walkers to try to get the tools we needed and the socialization she needed. She was asked to not return to two daycares due to her anxiety and two trainers made only minimal headway.  Her anxiety increased as time passed and she began to break out of kennels when home alone and chewed several walls waiting for us to come home. We could no longer take her around other dogs, as she was immediately reactive when with our family.  She was nervous around anyone outside of our family and had growled at our children’s friends. We finally connected with the right trainer and in combination with anxiety medication, Maeby was able to make some great progress in terms of greeting adults, walking on a leash, and recall. We then connected with a local small daycare and dog walking company who worked with Maeby to introduce her to other dogs and she now has a group of dogs she is comfortable playing with. Maeby began to be able to spend the day outside of her kennel at home without engaging in any destructive behaviours and  was literally smiling when greeting and welcoming adult guests into our home. We felt we were finally on a good path with her and the vet recommended weaning her off her medication, as it was always intended as a short term measure. She continued to demonstrate stability and progress. Unfortunately, despite never having had any issues with our children in the past, she recently bit our 6 year old daughter when our daughter approached her to pet her. We don’t know why Maeby reacted this way and are truly heartbroken at the position we are in as a result. Although the bite did not break the skin and as much as we love Maeby and are so proud of the progress she has made over the past 3 years, we do not feel we are in a position to address this particular behaviour with two children in our home. We believe she is capable of continuing to overcome challenges as she has proven herself to be and believe she would thrive in a household with no children. We are happy to pass on the name of her daycare so they can continue to work with her and you on dog socialization. We truly want what is best for Maeby and are hopeful we can find this beautiful, affectionate girl a loving home where she can be comfortable. Maeby’s favourite things include being with her family, soaking in any attention that comes her way, running along side a skateboard, playing at private off leash parks and staring into the depths of your soul. She’ll sleep in as late (or later) than you on the weekends and loves full body cuddles in bed. ##2131528##

Story
Nyx is a beautiful, blue and tan, 70 lbs, spayed female Doberman.  She was used for breeding until she came to us a couple years ago and was recently returned due to separation anxiety (she has not show any separation anxiety when housed with another dog). She loves to go for car rides and is great in a vehicle. She also loves going on long hikes and has perfect recall. She has shown some leash reactivity to other dogs in one of her previous homes, but we have not seen this, and she walks wonderfully on a head halter. She is also muzzle trained. She LOVES kids and she also LOVES playing fetch. She has never shown ANY aggression to humans. She is happy to go outside to do her business and has never had an accident in the house. She is currently being fostered with a male Doberman and is doing great. We would prefer her to go to a home with a male large breed dog as she will chase small dogs and cats if given the opportunity. Nyx is happy to snuggle up and watch movies for hours. She does have some pretty extreme separation anxiety if she is the only dog in the home, so we would like her to go to a home with an easygoing, but confident, large male dog. She has grabbed & pinned a couple of dogs she was displeased with in the past, not letting go of them quickly to get her point across, but she has never hurt another dog when she has done this. With this said, Nyx needs an experienced owner who is comfortable with reading dog body language and managing dog-dog interactions. Nyx is a solid dog, but she is very much a Doberman and can be a lot of dog for an inexperienced owner because of her energy and "take no sh!t" attitude with what she considers rude dogs. Nyx does not love cold weather. She will still go outside to do her thing, but she watches to make sure someone is waiting for her by the door. She will destroy any dog toy in record time. She does not love long flights of stairs and might take a while to adjust to a home with a lot of them. Nyx is protective of her people and her home. Nyx has been spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. She is currently on a natural thyroid supplement and will need her thyroid re-tested in the future. Her adoption fee is $500. All adopters must agree not to use any punitive training methods including, but not limited to, leash corrections; pinning; alpha rolls; and prong, pinch, choke, shock, or e-collars.
