Story
Meet Marco, a three-year-old, 50-pound bundle of joy with a heart-melting smile and an incredibly soft coat. His DNA results reveal an amazing blend of 17 different breeds, showcasing his unique and charming personality. Marco was discovered as a stray in rural North Carolina in November 2021, spending 17 months in a shelter confined to a kennel. Despite the challenging start to his life, he has shown remarkable resilience and is now thriving in his foster home in Connecticut, where he has been since March 2023, making him our longest resident ever. Marco is a true cuddle enthusiast, loving nothing more than to snuggle up next to his humans. He enjoys sleeping in bed and will settle in for the night, making sure to snuggle under a cozy blanket that he paws at to get just right. Playtime is Marco's favorite—he's a pro at zoomies, fetch, and tug of war, and his joy is contagious. He’s also highly intelligent and enjoys engaging activities like snuffle mats, food puzzles, and lick mats. Marco is always ready for an adventure and walks well on a leash. He gets along well with other dogs and is also fine with cats, making him a great companion for a multi-pet household. While Marco has made great strides since leaving the shelter, he is nervous around new people and needs time to build trust. Once he feels secure, he forms strong bonds and is incredibly loving. Marco needs an adult-only home, as children make him anxious. He requires a patient and experienced adopter willing to work with him on his reactivity to strangers and his tendency to get overstimulated. He has already learned to sit, and he is house and crate trained. His adoption fee is $350, and he is vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and neutered. Story
**I am located in Georgia, but I can be transported north to you!** Name: Jupiter Breed: Carolina Dog Sex: Female Age: 5 Weight: 40 lbs Vetting: spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention House trained: Yes Crate Trained: She is crate trained, but her first experience with them was when she was with animal control, so she doesn't love being in one. Dogs: She has done well with male dogs, but has had personality issues with other females. Cats: She hasn't been cat tested, but can upon request. Energy Level: Her high energy side comes out when she wants to play. She will run and play tug-a-war with a maximum energy level, and she needs to play like this at least twice a day. But when she's done playing, she would love to just relax in the sunshine. Things that make me happy: Food and scratches, specifically butt scratches, and being with her human man. She loves her foster mom and is very protective of her, but she will always want to be a daddy’s girl. She is a terrible flirt and waits all day for an evening of snuggles with her foster dad. She loves her treats of raw carrots and green beans. She even knows the difference when given a choice and she will tell you which one she would prefer at that moment. And if you take the time to scratch her bum she will reward you by loudly purring. Things that make my humans happy: She is so smart. She knows how to give a high five, a regular five, and a double five aka a ten. She also knows No, Sit, and Speak and is working on lying down. She sticks to her schedule of eating and going to the bathroom outside, so as long as her human is consistent all will be well. Working on: Jupiter is still a bit wild when playing. She is not aggressive, but she doesn't always understand that humans don’t play the same way as dogs. She needs someone who can handle a dog who uses her mouth when playing. She won't bite hard, but there could be the occasional nip when your hand is too close to her end of her tug rope. She is also built like a furry little tank and she may jump on you when playing (she doesn't jump otherwise) and you’ll feel her compact weight and her nails. Before FAR: Jupiter lived her first two years on her own as a stray until she was picked up by animal services and was rescued by Furever After Rescue just in time to avoid being euthanized. She was likely never a domestic dog before she was rescued. She doesn't show any signs of having been mistreated by humans, but she will always be skittish around and wary of people. Special Notes: Jupiter is slightly skittish from having been on her own originally. She prefers the flight instead of fight reaction as her first instinct and will need her own special place to retreat to when she gets scared. She wants someone who will be patient with her and let her explore and understand what is expected of her. Ideal Family/Home: Because of her size and background, she wouldn’t be right in a household with younger children. She really needs a family that will be able to give her the love and attention she needs. She will want to sleep in the bed with you where she's not shy about being a bed hog, but she repays with sweet cuddles. She's good on a leash and loves a good walk, but not a long one, so she will need daily exercise through lots of playing. She would not be good in a home where her parents are gone 40+ hours a week. She is a special dog and needs a family that can appreciate her uniqueness. Satos (pronounced with a short A) are a type of dog rather then a breed.  The name is Puerto Rican slang for “street dog,” but they are also known as Puerto Rican Found Dogs in the U.S. They are the homeless dogs, or urban free-ranging dogs, that live in Puerto Rican cities. Satos are small to medium dogs, usually not more than 35-40lbs. They have large ears that flop, long snouts and legs that seem just a tiny bit too short for their bodies. Their fur varies from a short thick coat to longer, feathery details on the tail and ears. They come in every color imaginable.  November 2, 2024, 11:51 am
