Story
Blue is an 8-year-old Australian Shepherd with classic good looks and an eager-to-please attitude. Originally adopted from Green Dogs Unleashed, Blue is a loyal companion who thrives on human connection and a consistent routine. While he has spent the last several years living with another Aussie, Blue has reached a stage in his life where he prefers to be the center of your world. He is looking for a home where he can be the only dog, allowing him to soak up all the attention, love, and care he deserves without having to share the spotlight. Skills & Personality Expert Fetcher: A massive fan of frisbee and fetch, Blue has even competed in disc dog competitions! Mannerly: He is house-trained, has solid basic recall, and walks nicely on a loose leash. Great Travel Buddy: He tolerates car rides well and is always down for an adventure. Engaged & Intelligent: He loves being involved in whatever his people are doing and appreciates a structured environment. Blue is the perfect match for an Aussie lover who appreciates the breed's intelligent, active nature but prefers a dog who is past the chaotic puppy stage. Because Blue thrives on one-on-one interaction, he prefers a home where he is the only pet, ensuring he remains the primary focus of your affection. We are still learning about his preferences with kids, so a calm, structured home with thoughtful introductions will be key to his success. If you are looking for a devoted, "velcro" buddy who is happy to fetch a frisbee and walk faithfully by your side, Blue is ready to be your one and only. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2608744##

Story
Dempsey is a sweet Aussie pup with a big personality, a wiggly body, and a heart full of love. He’s that perfect mix of playful chaos and sweet companionship… one minute he’s bouncing after a toy like it’s his life’s mission, and the next he’s curled up nearby, happily keeping you company while you go about your day. This handsome boy is everything you’d expect from an Aussie puppy. He’s smart, curious, and always ready for a game. Puzzle toys are one of his absolute favorite things, and he’s already showing off his problem-solving skills like a pro. He also loves soft toys, a good game of chase, and romping around with his dog friends. Dempsey gets along well with other dogs, especially playful pups who enjoy his energetic style. He’s currently living with a female foster siblings and loves to chase and play with them. He’s house trained and already knows “sit,” with more learning underway. Like many young pups, he’s still working on his crate skills, but he’s improving every day and settling more quickly with practice. Despite his high energy, Dempsey has a really nice “off switch.” He enjoys being near his people and will happily lie down beside you once he’s gotten his wiggles out. He’s affectionate, loves pets, and will absolutely roll over for belly rubs if you’re offering. Dempsey would thrive in a home that’s ready for a fun, active, and smart young dog… one that can continue his training, keep his brain engaged, and give him plenty of opportunities to play, learn, and be part of the action. If you’re looking for a goofy, loving, and endlessly entertaining companion, Dempsey might just be your perfect match At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Story
Drew is incredibly friendly and people-focused. He greets the world with enthusiasm, especially when it comes to meeting new friends, and he has a soft spot for kids, though he can be a bit jumpy in his excitement. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of everything you’re doing and will happily follow you from room to room once he settles in. He’s a smart, food-motivated learner who already knows “sit,” “down,” and “watch,” and is picking up new skills quickly. He enjoys training games and is currently working on building leash manners and getting comfortable with a gentle leader. On walks, he loves to sniff and explore and has been easy to redirect when something catches his attention. Drew is house trained and has had no accidents in his foster home. He’s still working on crate training, but with consistency and routine, he’s already showing great progress. He gets along well with other dogs and enjoys playtime, though like many adolescent pups, he’s still learning appropriate manners and boundaries. He would thrive with a playful canine companion or an active home that can keep him engaged. Drew’s favorite things include stuffed toys, flirt pole games, scent work, and tagging along for outings. He’s even starting to show interest in disc, making him a great candidate for fun, interactive activities. While he starts off as a wiggly, excited guy, Drew has a nice ability to settle once he’s had a chance to burn off energy. With the right balance of exercise, enrichment, and continued training, he’s going to grow into an incredible companion. Story
We are officially opening applications for the Australian Shepherd puppies currently in our care. These little ones are growing, learning, and beginning to show us who they are as individuals… and as always, our goal is to place them in homes where they will thrive for the rest of their lives.  A few important notes about this adoption process: Applications will be for the litter as a whole, not for a specific puppy. We know it is easy to fall in love with a particular color or coat pattern. They are undeniably adorable. However, we do not place puppies based on appearance. Instead, we match families with puppies based on temperament, lifestyle, and long-term compatibility. As we continue to observe the litter and get to know their personalities, we will carefully pair each puppy with the home that best suits their needs. This litter truly has the full spectrum of personalities. Some of these pups are already showing signs of being laid-back, cuddly companions who will happily curl up in a lap after a good play session. Others are showing that classic Aussie spark… bright, busy minds and the potential to grow into enthusiastic sport or working partners. Our responsibility is to make sure each puppy lands where they will be understood and appreciated for exactly who they are. Because of this, we will give preference to:• Families with prior herding breed experience• Local families who are able and willing to continue training here at Green Dogs Unleashed• Homes committed to lifelong learning and enrichment for these very intelligent dogs Australian Shepherds are incredible companions, but they are also thoughtful, driven working dogs who require guidance, structure, and engagement. It is also important to note that all Green Dogs Unleashed dogs are required to be trained using positive reinforcement methods. We do not allow aversive tools or training techniques. Our program is built on science-based, kindness-only training that strengthens the relationship between dog and human while helping dogs learn to make good choices. We understand that the matching process can sometimes feel difficult when you have your heart set on a particular look. But please know that every decision we make is guided by one simple principle: the long-term success and wellbeing of these dogs. The right puppy in the right home changes everything… and that is exactly what we are working to create. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission and trust the process as we help these pups find the families they are meant for. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support.
