Story
Sydney is a beautiful, smart, gentle and sweet girl. She is very loving, playful, eager to please, and house-trained. She has a very short tail and when she sees someone she loves, her whole body wiggles in delight! She likes to snuggle up with you on the couch and adores belly rubs. She is intelligent and quickly learned the names of her various toys and often figures out what you want her to do before you even ask. She loves to be outside in the yard with her person and her canine buddy, and enjoys walks in the neighborhood, but it's the walks in the woods she really loves. She wants to be your friend and do everything you ask, but sometimes the world is a little too scary for her. She can be a little slow to warm up to new people and likes to have a "safe space" all her own. She is cautiously happy to meet most people, but she is generally a little more timid with men. She has had very limited exposure, but she seems to be fine with children. She was initially merely shy with the cat in her foster home. Recently, the cat was having a bad week and unfortunately lashed out at Sydney several times, so Sydney has become fearful of the cat; we are not sure if that means she will be fearful of all cats now. She is initially timid around most dogs, but would probably do well sharing a home with a confident, playful dog, and as shown in the videos, once she's comfortable with another dog, she loves to run and play! Sydney was rescued by HART after being surrendered to a shelter, we don't know where she lived before that. She has made steady progress coming out of her shell, but will need someone experienced with anxious dogs and who will be very patient and loving with her. Story
This handsome fellow and his siblings came in to rescue last winter after they were dumped on a back country road. Their mother was found deceased, so we took the puppies in to try to save them. They were very sick initially but are very healthy now. Big boy is a gentle boy but does love to run and play with other dogs. Big boy was the largest of the puppies, but his siblings have caught up to him. He has done amazing with his house and crate training. He is so deserving of a wonderful home to call his own. He is fostered in East TN, but transportation is included in the adoption fee and provided by Rescue Riders LLC. Please let me know if you have any questions. Please email us for the link to the adoption application (His adoption fee is only to cover transport and health certificate to travel to another state.)

Story
Puppies! They are so cute! But, are you ready?Along with the fun and excitement they bring, getting a puppy is a big responsibility. They can be a 10-to-15+ year commitment. They need to be trained to fit into your family including leash walking, housebreaking, basic commands and expectations. Training does not happen quickly. It takes time and consistency. They require initial and yearly vet exams and vaccinations. Socializing your puppy is also very important, as it can help them become comfortable around new animals, people, and environments. We ask that you take into consideration all of these things before deciding to adopt a puppy. Consider the following:Are you able to consistently train your puppy? Will everyone in your household work together to take care of the puppy? Are you prepared for your puppy to grow into a bigger dog?Are you willing to clean up the messes that your puppy will make? Are you ready for vet bills to keep up with their vaccinations and care? How are you going to socialize your puppy? Are other animals in your household able to tolerate a new puppy? If you’re ready to take on the responsibility and experience the JOY of bringing home a new puppy, come out to the shelter and meet your new best friend!

To learn more about Terran, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org. Terran will be at one of our adoption events this weekend! Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. Meet Terran, your future best friend! This 3-year-old Aussie Shepherd mix is a sweet, gentle boy with a heart as big as his fluffy paws. With his thoughtful eyes and soft demeanor, Terran wins people over with his quiet charm and calm companionship. He prefers to take things slow at first, so a little patience while he gets to know you will help him shine. Terran is incredibly tuned in to his person. On walks, he checks in with his handler and seems to understand teamwork—if his leash slips under his paw, he’ll politely lift it to help fix it. If he walks around a pole, he knows to turn around and come back the same way so his human doesn’t have to go around. It’s clear this smart boy is always paying attention and trying to work with his person. Once Terran trusts you, his affectionate side blossoms. He loves pets, snuggles, and being close to his people, happily soaking up scratches and quiet cuddle time. He’s the kind of loyal companion who will bond deeply with his family and be happiest by your side. Terran would be a wonderful match for a kind, patient home that enjoys cozy moments and gentle adventures. If you’re looking for a thoughtful, tender-hearted companion who truly connects with his person, Terran might just be the perfect fit.

Story
Poppy is a newcomer so we don't know that much about her personality. She is friendly and appears to be crate-trained. She's very smart. She loves to be with people and will jump a 4-foot fence to get to them.   Poppy would benefit from having a canine companion to give her confidence and show her the ropes.  Poppy attaches herself to her people and barks when she is left alone. Having another dog to keep her company may help with this but is not guaranteed. Gender: Spayed Female Current Size: 17 pounds Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix Approximate DOB: 2/1/2024  PLEASE NOTE:  we only adopt to residents of the DC metro area, which includes DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in MD, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties in VA. Please see our adoption guidelines at  https://spcanova.org/about-us/adoption-policies/. March 12, 2026, 7:33 pm
