Story
Courtesy Post: Owner Surrender/Rehoming- Fairfax, VA Gus is an 4 year old Australian Shepherd and weighs 40 lbs. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, and on heartworm prevention. Gus is nervous around strangers! No children or dogs, due to his reactivity! He hasn’t been tested around cats. Several years ago, Gus escaped from the yard while someone else was watching him. A stranger found him and went to grab his collar, which caused Gus to bite the stranger. Gus is currently on gabapentin, clonidine, and Sertaline for his reactivity. His owner says that when he isn’t triggered, he is loving, loyal, smart, playful, and energetic! The owner is surrendering him because he doesn’t do well with their young children. If you think you can provide a great home for Gus, please contact the owner listed below. There is a $150 rehoming fee to assure good folks with good intentions. This fee will be donated to Australian Shepherds Furever for their assistance in placing Gus. Owner’s Contact Information: Devin at elliott.family.8823@gmail.com

Story
Meet Maple! Maple was returned to ASF due to resource guarding issues. Maple has been thoroughly assessed by ASF and is currently with ASF in a foster home. She is the sweetest, most lovely dog. Maple is now 14 months and is in the process of learning boundaries, getting exercise and loving life romping with her foster's two aussies. She is a beautiful, gentle, small at 31 lbs, blue merle with one blue eye. She is crate trained and house trained. Maple is kid, cat and dog friendly. She was raised with an 8 year old and will be fine with kids who have dog manners. She will chase cats but it is a game. The foster has been feeding the dogs separately, but has seen no resource guarding over people or toys. And Maple loves her toys. She likes balls, stuffed animals, nylabones and sticks. Even with chewing a nylabone, she is amenable when one of her foster's aussies steals it. Maple is very affectionate, always game to play but also happy to settle. She walks well on a leash and is not reactive, though will grumble back at dogs who grumble at her. The only drawback to Maple is she was diagnosed with diabetes at 7 months. ASF has done a full medical work up and tweaked her diet. Currently, the diabetes is managed with insulin shots twice/day, given after she eats. She takes the shots very well, with no notice at all. Maple needs a permanent foster, Foster to Adopt or adopter. She is a wonderful small aussie, and is child friendly. I believe she would thrive in a home with other aussies as she LOVES to play and chase – she has a kangaroo boxing style of play. She also needs consistent exercise, structure and training. Maple knows sit sometimes, leave it (more or less), walks well on a leash, but has no other training. She is very smart and learning fast. She is excellent at the vet and has NO reactivity issues. She is located in Falls Church, VA If she sounds perfect for you, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additiona $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new furever family.

This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Mila is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweetie with the gorgeous piercing blue eyes landed in the shelter through no fault of her own. She's eagerly looking forward to having her own humans again. Long sniffy walks, romps in the park, all those adventures to burn off that awesome young-dog energy - yes, please! She'd also love to go to dog school to show how super smart she is.  What she wants most of all, though, is to know she's safe and loved and under her own roof. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Story
Meet Alice, our darling brown and white girl that has the most memorable face and sky high ears you have ever seen.   This girl was born around the middle of May and is thought to be combination of lots of breed influences.   For starters we think that Cattle Dog and Aussie might be a mixture that are dominant for her.  She is one smart little girl that adorable her foster family and all the other big dogs (several German Shepherds are her mentors and big sisters) and many foster cats are present as well in the home.  Her boundless happy puppy energy catapults her through the days as she grows in to a true beauty inside and out.  She is so playful and loving and always ready for the next BIG ADVENTURE!  She loves to chase toys and explore the backyard for new things to do and maybe a few squirrels to make friends with.  She absorbs whatever you teach her like a sponge.  Her foster mom is an excellent trainer and knows the importance of teaching manners and commands.  Her friendly nature makes her easy to meet new people and she is does not shy away from new experiences either.  She is a snuggler when she is tired and very loving as she sits beside you to watch a good TV show.  This girl will be an excellent recall pup since she is learning that now and is so eager to please and be with her humans.  If you are interested in this beauty who will grow to be a 45-50 pound girl, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com   Let us know where you live: city and state when you are inquiring. Story
Hi, everyone. My name is Special Stella, and I am a beloved, fun, well-trained 5 year old Yellow Lab/Aussie mix girl that is only 50 pounds and who is looking for a new home without young children.  I have been with my young couple, mom and dad.For the past four years, and I have been very happy and loved. And during that time, it was discovered that young energetic children made me nervous.   Now my mom and dad are having a baby and they say it would be best if I went to a home with no young young children and yeah, would be best.If I was the only dog unless I lived with a submissive male, that would not challenge me to be the top dog.   I have lived with a cat and my only bad habit is I love cat food. I am housebroken and crate, trained and leash trained, and I know commands. And I am a very good girl. That will be your buddy, rick riding around town and your suv or a pickup truck or going out on the lake in the boat for the summer months.  I'm really a good girl, but I just have 2 things that I probably do. Don't meet in my life and that is a dominant dog around me and young children. That are you being what god made them to be,  young, energetic and loud and sometimes a little too quick to make movements that make me nervous.   We are all heartbroken that I have to find a new home. Critter Cavalry promised my Dad, who originally adopted me just to be his buddy before he got married, that they would help me find the perfect place for me to live out the next ten years or more of my life.   I promise to be the best companion you've ever had.   Please consider me to come and live with you and watch TV. At your feet or go for hikes. In the woods or just take naps in the afternoon on a lazy Winter day.  I am fully vetted and microchipped and come with great dog manners and very few bad habits. Unless you have a cat and I try to eat their food.  Please consider me and write to Critter.Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.  Tell them where you live: city and state.   They are based in Tennessee and not only adoot to Tennessee, but also transport to the Northeast.    PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 27, 2025, 10:05 pm
