Her Foster Says: "Minerva is a sweet, energetic pup who’s always ready for fun and adventure. Her alert nature makes her a loyal companion—she’ll happily stay by your side and observe everything you do! She’s getting the hang of playing fetch and seems to love rope toys the most. Best of all, she’s a big hugger who can never get enough cuddles. While she’s still working on leash training, her sensitive nature means she gets easily distracted on walks and can be a little nervous around city noises. However, she’s already shown how amazing she can be as a running buddy, making her a perfect companion for anyone who enjoys staying active."
Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.)
Energy level:MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)
Cuddle Bug Level High- she gives big hugs whenever you're close by or stoop down to her eye level
Potty TrainedYes- she's been great at only going to the bathroom outside, it's also been fairly easy getting her to find her spots outside
Comfy with strangersYes- She floats towards whoever comes her way
Comfortable with Children (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Yes for 12 and up- haven't detected any signs of aggression towards kids but we haven't encountered many young kids/babies so far.
Social with other dogsMostly - sometimes she growls at them(big or small) after a few minutes but not very consistent.
Respectful of Other Animals Sort of - she has chased pigeons before
Mouthy BehaviorMedium- she shows interest towards random objects to chew on but can be easily corrected. She still needs work on not being mouthy with human's hands and feet while playing.
Leash Mannersworking on it - she pulls when she's scared of the loud noises, still needs lots of practice.
Okay in the citySort of - Spooked easily but she can take walks perfectly when we are in quieter areas.
Jumping on People to Say HiMedium - Only jumps on people she finds friendly with.
Separation AnxietyLow- she is good at being left alone while you are out, but might whine a little bit if she can't see you while sleeping.
Crate training Not at all - Not using one right now
Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Pureto Rico & LA. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
