Name: Ediko Age: 1 year Gender: male Breed: Aussie/Lab/Heeler mix Weight: 44 lbs Dog friendly: yes  Cat friendly: yes, dog-savvy, cats Child friendly: yes, older respectful children, please House trained: yes Crate trained: yes Energy level: moderate but loves to take naps Temperament: spirited, sweet, playful Requirement: Not apartment appropriate but could be in a duplex or condo Adoption fee: $400 +tax To adopt, go to: www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html From the Foster Family.    Hi, my name is Ediko, or Deke/Diko for short. I am currently hanging out with a cool foster family. I live with two other large dogs and am learning my role in the pack.  I am very laid back and submissive and love to play with my foster fur siblings.  They also have a small cat.  I have learned cats are friends and not food.  They are ok but don't play as much as the large dogs do.   I have tons of energy and would do better in a house with another dog or with active people. I LOVE my current fur siblings and want to play constantly, even if it involves laying on the floor next to them and chewing on their necks. I haven't met a dog that I didn't like!  I am still working on trusting new people. I may appear a little skittish at first, but once I trust you, you will learn I love snuggles and belly rubs. I love to play and snuggle with my foster parents, but it took a couple of days for me to trust them. So - you will need to be a little patient with me as I learn to trust you. When people want to pet me and gently approach me, I'm usually ok. If I get nervous, I back away but never get aggressive.  I like to look to my foster mom for approval.  If she says it's ok, I will proceed cautiously.   I absolutely love dog toys and bones to chew on.  When my foster family brings home a new squeaky toy I am like a kid in a candy store. I will throw that toy around and play with it for hours.  Well until I get the squeaker out.   I am 100% potty trained.  I like to sit by the door when I want to go outside. I am also kennel trained.  My foster family says they have to do this thing called work.  I willingly go into my kennel and rest till they get home.   This foster house also has 2 smaller humans.  While I prefer adults I am starting to trust these "children."  It has taken some time but I guess they are all right.   I adore sleeping with my foster mom.  She can be on a chair, lying on the couch, or in her bed.  Her lap is the best.  She tells me I am not a lap dog but I think she might not be the smartest human.  She says "Deke you are not a lap dog." Do I listen...NOPE, I just lay down and she accepts my snuggles eventually.  You see I have learned that consistency and persistence are the key.   My foster family feels that I would do best in a house with another dog.  I just love being with other dogs and like to fall in line with the pack.  I have learned a lot from these resident dogs about indoor living since I arrived back in June.   I gotta say indoor living is much better than living outside searching for my own food.   I am ready to find my forever family and I hope that could be you.  please apply today to meet me.  With time and love, I know I will be the best dog you never knew you needed in your life.  November 11, 2024, 9:21 pm

Story
Meet Cotton Candy! Meet the sweetest, funniest, goofiest boy around. Cotton is a little over a year old and full of Aussie energy. Cotton is looking for a family that has a great sense of humor and an understanding of the needs of this fun breed.Cotton is a double merle as is evident by his fluffy, white coat. It also can impact vision and hearing. In Cotton’s case he is completely deaf but does have some vision- mainly shadows. But this has ZERO effect on this boy and the wonderful life he will live!Cotton loves playing with other dogs and is generally fantastic with them- he is still a young, male Aussie that can’t always read other dog’s signals. Occasionally, he irks his companions but he’s a quick study and rarely repeats a misstep. He has been as respectful as he’s able to with the resident cats. Cotton loves all humans he meets- big and small!Cotton is a good boy in his crate and has (knocks on wood) figured out house training like a champ. Cotton loves to go for runs with his foster dad and is great at it. He’d be a wonderful training companion. Cotton is an active boy and needs to keep his brain and body busy. He’s smart and willing. Training him is a joy!Cotton is looking for a family that will encourage, train and help him continue to live a wonderfully full life. Herding dog knowledge is helpful but not necessary if you are willing and able to provide him the stimulation he needs. He does need another, welcoming dog in his new home. The give him a familiar, easy way to learn his new environment.Cotton will be endless laughs and the occasional head shake for his new family. They will truly be the lucky ones!So cute! Super cute!Cotton has been neutered, microchipped and is up to date on his vaccinations. He has also tested negative for heartworm disease. His adoption fee is $450.00 plus sales tax. Please submit an adoption application if you have questions about Cotton or would like to meet him.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Argo arrived in November 2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota. He is about 3 years old does have a lot of the trademark features of mixed breed dogs from Reservations - "Rezzies", as they are affectionately known in rescue. Like many Rezzies, he could be a mix of cattle dog and German and/or Australian shepherd, just to name a few possible options. He's a handsome and very active dog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Argo has had some basic training and will require a lot of consistent exercise. This is of the utmost importance in order to keep him well balanced and happy. He is ready for action all the time but gets serious when leashed. He does pretty well on leash walks and loves car rides. He's an affectionate guy, too, who thinks nothing of climbing into a person's lap if he gets the chance. Argo would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. He's not a dog for apartment living. He's looking for an ADULT only, single person home as he tends to bond very closely to his person and becomes quite protective. No cats for him. He's incredibly smart and would be a lot of fun to train! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.BREED EXPERIENCE NEEDED. Mickey is a purebred Australian shepherd who was surrendered to us on 4/2/2024 as his original owner was having health issues and could no longer care for him. He's a happy and bouncy young dog who does require some basic training. He's very smart and eager to learn. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $150. Mickey was adopted and returned recently after a few months. His herding instincts did prove to be too strong when he was around smaller animals and young kids. He does require a lot of physical and mental exercise. Mickey is a definite "velcro dog", who wants to be with his people as much as possible. He's energetic, happy, loving and affectionate. He's looking for a home that is experienced with herding breed types and willing and able to give him the exercise and mental stimulation that he needs. Mickey has done well with other dogs of similar size and energy level. He would do best in a home without smaller animals, especially cats. An adult only home would be best (teens are fine). NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Khloe came to the shelter as owner surrender. Her owner was experiencing some serious health issues and could no longer care for her. Khloe is a mix of miniature Australian shepherd and chihuahua but she looks mostly like a mini Aussie. She is 7 years old and petite, weighing around 17 pounds. She has been vet checked, chipped, and spayed and her fee is $150. Khloe definitely prefers the company of women. She's very loving and affectionate once she's comfy with someone and tends to become somewhat possessive of that person. Khloe is looking for a somewhat quiet home in which she won't be left alone for long hours. An adult only home would be best. She has lived with other dogs and has been somewhat tolerant of cats but does tend to get a little jealous when she has to share attention. We think she might actually prefer to be the only princess in the home. Someone with some experience with herding breed types would be excellent for Khloe. She might be smaller but she does seem to have herding instinct. She likes to be busy and needs regular exercise.
