Story
Meet Allie, a 2019 edition of a party colored Australian Shepherd x Border Collie weighing in at 42 lbs. This beautiful gal came to NWMNAR because her previous owner had to leave abroad to help take care of in-laws and could not take Allie with. Allie loves going to obedience class and showing how smart she is. Allie needs an Aussie savy owner her can outsmart her. She is best with dogs the same size, she has prey drive towards rabbits and may not do well with cats or other smaller animals possibly including smaller tiny dogs. Allie takes time with strangers and will often back away barking. Allie has been scared of men with hats in the past. She can be a bit barky towards other dogs on walks, but has been learning to play nice. She can be dominant towards other dogs. Allie doesn't like plastic crates, but does just fine in wire crate. Allie must be crated in a vehicle otherwise she will run around in a vehicle pushing window switches until she gets out. Allie is best to go for a walk before a car ride to ensure she doesn't nervous defecate in the vehicle. Allie hies and sleeps under the bed to keep the monsters away. Allie does like to vocalize herself if she sees other dogs outside when she is peering out the windows. She has just started to play with toys and gets groomed twice a week with a brush. Allie is available for adoption. Free adoption applications can be found on our website at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/NMA/Dog. Because NWMNAR is not a public shelter, meet and greets do not take place until an application has been approved and a home visit has been completed in person or virtually. Meet and greets will take place in a public setting along with the adoption if compatible. Dogs can be met in Ada, MN or in our alternate office location in Maple Grove, Mn.

Story
Meet little Bella Dawn, this beautiful 2017 edition of a Miniature Australian Shepherd came into rescue from a breeder release. Her life has been primarily living in a crate or kennel and used solely for breeding. She is now looking for a furever home where she will never have to worry about breeding again. She is learning to live the good life, plays with other dogs, keeps her kennel run clean, is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. She is learning to trust and is a little shy but coming out of her shell and wants to be loved. She is learning how to walk on a leash and learn her basic skills. Bella Dawn would love to have a home where she can be loved solely for herself and not for breeding. Free adoption applications can be found on our website at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/NMA/Dog. Story
Meet Red Raven! Red Raven is a 2022 edition of a standard Australian Shepherd. She came into NWMNAR as an owner surrender as they had to move and where they were moving did not allow pets. Red Raven is a very intelligent dog, and will need a privacy fenced yard as she can clear a six foot chain link fence. This girl would probably excel in agility or be a great jogging partner. She does best with women, has been around children, but better suited for adults. Red Raven is very responsive, wicked smart, house and crate trained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations and ready to find her new home. Red Raven is available for adoption. Free adoption applications can be found on our website at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/NMA/Dog. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus taxPeggy Lee is a smart and spirited mix of shepherd/herding and working breeds. She seems to be always thinking and noticing. She takes time to warm up to people, but once she does, she cannot get enough belly rubs and snuggles. Until she feels comfortable, she will “alert bark” at strangers and does not want to be approached, unless it is on her terms. But… be ready for a complete 180. Displaying kindness and patience in the first few weeks will pay off in a lifetime of affection and adoration from this lovable girl. Before you know it, you will have a snuggle buddy and loving companion. She has begun occasionally letting a gentle stranger pet her, but it takes calm encouragement from the person she trusts. With consistency and support, she should greatly improve in this area. She went from being fearful of foster mom’s boyfriend to wanting belly rubs from him, within a few visits. She loves car rides, naps in the yard, trips to the dog park, walks, and any other adventures. She would probably be a happy boating dog. She may also enjoy agility or another active sport.  Peggy Lee is crate trained! After a few mournful moments as foster mom leaves for work, she settles down in the crate, much easier than when she’s left loose in the house. She will voluntarily choose to hang out in her crate even with the door wide open. But she wants to be near her people and part of the family. Peggy Lee has so much affection to give. She wants nothing more than to love and be loved. She is easy to train, when done in a loving way. Peggy learned sit, lay down, and “paw” (to shake) in just a few days. When I tell her she’s a good girl, her tail just thumps on the floor in pure happiness. She entertains herself with chew toys and loves a good squeaker. As a strong and athletic dog, she benefits from an opportunity to run and play every day. Don’t miss the video of her zoomies with the frisbee. Peggy Lee sleeps soundly at night in her dog bed on the floor, although she would be happy be with her human in the bed as well. She needs the company of another confident and interactive dog in her home. She looks to the other dog for cues for just about everything. She will gleefully engage in play with her doggy sibling. She is overly obsessed with cats, and very vocal about it, so she needs a cat-free home. She will keep all squirrels, cats, and birds out of your yard. She will also let you know if she sees a cat out the window.  Peggy Lee really is a special kind of dog who is just what someone out there is seeking. Story
Hi, I’m Moose! I’m a herding breed mix of some kind born 10/7/23!   I am very energetic and always looking to play. I’m even good at playing by myself with my toys!  I’m friendly with everyone - adults, kids, dogs of all sizes, and cats.  Any person I meet immediately becomes my best friend!  I bark sometimes when other dogs are playing rambunctiously or when I get scared.  I like to make my foster mom laugh by talking back to her when she tells me to be quiet.  I typically prefer to be cuddled up with my people.  I am potty trained and can go several hours without an accident (while my foster mom is at work).  I sleep in my crate, and I am quiet at night.  I’ve mastered leash walking but want to sniff EVERYTHING on my walks and also will try to chase squirrels.  If you’re interested in meeting me, let me know!  I’d love to meet you!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $550.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:33 pm

Story
Jenny is a mini Aussie born 4/17/21. She lives with Jackie Too who is also a mini Aussie. They are best buddies and like to cuddle each other. Jackie Too is also Jenny’s protector. When I began fostering Jenny she was scared/shy and would hide. She is slowly coming out of her shell and will now cuddle and come to you to get attention. She does get scared easily and will retract back to hiding. She is not aggressive at all and you are able to pick her up if need be. She is working on potty training and using pee pads when not able to get outside. She does well in the kennel overnight or when I’m at work and she will let you know when she’s ready to get out. She is good with my 5 year old son. She is good with my German Shepherd and likes to bark at him. She prefers to play with her foster buddy Jackie Too. Jenny is not good with sudden movements as it makes her retract back to being scared. It makes it hard to walk her on leash with her being scared she pulls back. She has done well on a tie out except when it’s time to come in. I usually have to pick her up. She has been on two car rides. The first time she did well. She was in a kennel with Jackie Too. The second was not in a kennel on her way to the vet and she ended up throwing up. Jenny will look away if you look at her and seems to have a calm personality. However when it’s playtime she can have a high energy level. Jenny enjoys sleeping/cuddling with Jackie Too. She enjoys cuddles/belly rubs on her terms. She also loves playing with Jackie Too. She likes toys and I call her a secret chewer because she is sneaky at tracing things and you wouldn’t know it was her until you catch her in the act. She’s left alone for 8 hours Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and 11 hours every other weekend. She does well in the kennel and is excited to see you when you get home. There have been times where she barks/whines before you leave and when you get home. Jenny doesn’t seem to respond to her name but when I call her J she seems to respond to that.   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, dental, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. He does his best sleeping in a room with a human and is accustomed to sleeping on his dog bed, but will wander and be busy all night if allowed. Brock understands basic commands. We are working on maintaining these skills when in stimulating environments, which makes it much harder for him. Brock is a very busy mind and wound benefit from someone with skills or someone who is ready to take on training to help create a physically and mentally stimulating environment. We are focused on leash walking, focusing commands ('look at me') retrieval play, and 'leave it' commands.    Brock is very sweet and wants to be in someone's company. He loves morning snuggles and can be busy for hours playing fetch, walking, or if you are very daring- a little rollerblading. Brock would do best in a single dog home, with an active family or with a fenced in yard, as he is a high energy pup.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus taxPatsy is such a sweet and loving dog. She is protective of her people and home. When new people come to her home Patsy wants to let them know they are in HER house, as a working dog, this is her job. We have been working with Patsy so she can have another job when new people come over. Patsy goes into her kennel on command and has a chew toy to 'work with'. She will bark for a bit and then calm down. She then can come out of her kennel to meet the new person while on a leash. She will need to continue this training, but is a very smart dog and catches on quickly. Patsy is good with our resident dogs and cat. She would do best in a home with another very active dog to play with or with a family who will exercise her regularly. She likes to talk (bark) a lot so would not be a good pet in a home with shared walls. She gets very excited when we get ice from our refridgerator's ice dispenser. She will bark and then get a toy and swing it around until she gets a piece of ice. She looks like she is smiling the entire time. Story
Check little Sienna out! This little border collie blend was found out in the cold on the streets of Ada, MN. She was held with the Ada Police Department for a weekend, and brought into NWMNAR first thing the following Monday morning at daybreak. Little Sienna stayed on stray hold for a week, has been spayed, brought up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and now looking for her furever home! This little gal is spirited and definitely holds her own. Her personality is bigger in size than she is with a bit of a dominant personality and is a quick learner. She has been around other dogs while vacationing here at the rescue and is brushing up on her social skills. Sienna is available for adoption, and is also currently seeking a foster home! Fine Print: All dogs of NWMNAR are screened at the headquarters in Ada, Mn until they are vetted. They are then transferred to foster homes throughout MN and some into ND so they can get used to lifestyles with a family in a home. Adoption fee for an adult dog is $300 + Mn tax. Adoption fee for a dog over 3 years of age is $300 + Mn tax., pup/dog1 year to 3 years is $400 + Mn tax. Under 1 year of age $500 + Mn tax. Dogs can be met in Ada, MN weekday and weekends, or in our alternate office location in Maple Grove, MN on weekends only. Once we receive your submission, our application review team will be in touch with you. Please have patience while they look over your application.
