Pinto is a gorgeous 10 month old aussie German shepherd mix who weighs 34 pounds. She is a smart and energetic girl who had to have her rear leg amputated because of an injury. She doesn't let it slow her down, and she is getting confident with tile and hardwood floors. She loves people and gets along well with the other foster pups in her home. She would thrive in an active home with people who will play with her. She loves to go for walks in the woods! Pinto loves to play with toys and exercise her herding instinct with balls. She is great in the crate and loves to near her people. She will also let you know when she needs to go outside! Pinto is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested if you have them Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to come up after completing heartworm treatment Special Adoption Considerations: Trigger is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. Gus is a 4-year old purebread Mini Australian Shepherd. We are looking to rehome him because the combination of his fear-based reactivity and our now having young children (a 1-year old and 1 on the way) is no longer compatible. Gus has had behavioral issues as a puppy - he is reactive towards other dogs and should be kept at a distance. While OK with adults, he needs time to get familiar with new people and does best if allowed to go at his own pace. Treats help. Like all Aussies, Gus requires lots of mental and physical activity. Musts: home with a yard where he can run and play in a safe environment; an owner committed to continuing his behavioral training with a no-fear policy; no other pets or young children. Despite his behavioral issues, Gus is a truly wonderful dog. He is sweet and loving to those he trusts. He is playful, goofy, cuddly, and full of energy. Current medications: Gabapentin, Sertraline, and Clonidine.
