Story
Intake date 13 July 2024 . 2ish year old, black tri neutered male aussie, intake weight 45lbs . Brock has been with us for a week or so, and while he has a lovely temperament, he is shy to the extreme. He will need folks who will put time into building trust, utilizing a leash and longline, and time. Brock loves other dogs, and will need some friendly pups in his new home. He is unknown with cats, though he had the opportunity to chase and he ignored. He reminds me quite a bit of an aussie we had here a couple of years ago, who has turned into the loveliest companion for his adopter. Sometimes the roughest edges take a little bit of sanding to show the beauty hiding. . Brock is crate trained and walks well on leash. Anyone interested in adopting Brock should be prepared to take him to classes and provide lots of passive socialization. . This dog is located in Maryland - we do not ship or transport dogs. For information on adoption, an FAQ, and our application, please see our website at mabcr.org. If you are interested in adoption, please submit an application, complete with documentation. . Dogs that have not lived previously with children will not be offered to homes where young children reside. We do not `test` dogs with children or cats, since testing here will not show an accurate picture, and may give potential adopters false comfort. If a dog has lived with children or cats, that will be stated above. We do not place dogs as ESA, nor will we place a dog as hypo-allergenic. Applicants interested in adoption of a potential service dog must be working with an experienced trainer. . Please note that some young dogs may be placed with an alter deposit and contract, and any available dog of any age may be placed with a training deposit and contract -- this would be noted on offer, prior to placement. For additional information on these policies, please see our website. . Questions about dogs are generally not answered here due to lack of staffing. All available dogs may not be listed on our website due to time constraints and does not effect a specific dog`s availability. Additional information and photos will be posted here as time permits.

Story
Intake date 24 October 2024 2020 female red merle aussie, weight 35-40 lbs . Lyla is a very sweet girl who came to rescue because she no longer enjoys the company of small children in her home. After rearing a litter of puppies, she no longer tolerated the children`s shenanigans and was giving warning signals. The family decided to rehome her before any kids pushed things too far. For this reason she will not be placed in a home with young kids. She is great with adults, dogs, and has met the resident barn cats without issue. . Lyla does appear to have some basic obedience training but any new family should be prepared to work her brain and body as she is still a young Aussie. . This dog is located in Maryland - we do not ship or transport dogs. For information on adoption, an FAQ, and our application, please see our website at mabcr.org. Story
Update from her foster mom: She is a great pup & will make a loyal companion. She is my shadow in the house! She is very affectionate, curious, sweet & playful. LOVES playing with our other dogs.LOVES toys & chew bones. She is very food motivated & smart- & thus easy to train. Still working on house training (that is more our fault than hers) but getting better, comes when called, sits on command, knows “crate” (& is very good in her crate). Alrighty, who is ready for some adventure? This gorgeous girl for sure! Meet Summer! She is a young mixed breed, maybe 12 months, and currently about 25-30 lbs. She has gorgeous med. hair with brindle coloring, a nubby tail, and beautiful brown eyes! Her vet records say Australian Shepherd mix. She certainly has the body size, energy, and friendly disposition. She really warms up to all people and dogs nicely. She would love hikes, maybe agility, or maybe even herding classes? How ever you choose to engage with Summer, I’m sure she will excel, she is motivated to please you! We prefer to place her in a home with a securely enclosed back yard, no toddlers, or cats. (Herding children is not looked upon favorably. 😉) If you are interested in adopting Summer who is already microchipped, spayed, tested, crate-trained, and on preventions, just email me to request an adoption application at : marysmutts05@gmail.com.

Story
Nebula, a truly beautiful dog. While her past holds some hardship – she was found living on the streets with her seven puppies – her spirit shines through. Nebula is a sweet and beautiful girl, possessing a gentle nature that will blossom with the right amount of patience and understanding. Nebula's intelligence is evident in her quick grasp of commands. She's already house-trained and crate-trained, demonstrating a willingness to learn and adapt. She enjoys walks immensely, exhibiting a calm and easy-going temperament. What Nebula truly desires is a loving home where she can finally feel safe and secure. While her street life has made her initially cautious around new people, once she builds trust, her playful puppy-like energy resurfaces. It's a beautiful transformation to witness. We believe Nebula would thrive in a quiet and patient home, ideally with someone experienced in working with dogs who have experienced trauma. With the right care, she'll become the most loyal and loving companion imaginable. If you're interested in learning more about Nebula and potentially offering her a loving forever home, please don't hesitate to contact us. $200 In State Adoption Fee (in Texas) $400 Out of State Fee (includes Transportation to your area) $50 Temporary fuel surcharge.

Story
Meet Marcus, a smart, playful, and active Border Collie-Retriever mix with a heart full of love and potential! This handsome boy is full of energy and would thrive in a home that can keep up with his enthusiasm for daily play and mental stimulation. He’s incredibly intelligent and enjoys learning new tricks and commands, making him a great companion for anyone looking to bond over training and activities. While Marcus has had a challenging start to life, having been found on the streets, he’s come a long way and is now looking for a special family that understands his unique needs. Due to his past experiences, Marcus is best as the only dog in the home and would benefit from an adopter who can provide him with a secure environment where he can continue to thrive. He does have some food resource guarding tendencies, which is why being the only dog in a home is essential. He can also be very creative when it comes to looking for food so make sure your counters are free of food as he has been known to eat entire loaves of bread. Marcus is a loving and loyal companion in the home, and with the right care and patience, he will blossom into an even more wonderful pet. He would do best in a calm, quiet environment without the stress of other dogs or public spaces like dog parks, but he’ll give you endless affection and joy in return. If you’re looking for an intelligent, active, and loving dog who’s ready to build a life full of adventures with you, Marcus might just be the perfect fit. He’s waiting for his forever home where he can truly feel safe and loved! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Intake date - 20 September 2020Approximate Birth Date - 5 August 2019Black and white female border collie********PUPDATE 21 December 2022 - Pan has changed SO MUCH since intake - as you`d expect with a long term stay - and would really thrive in a home of her own. Pan loves the company of other stable dogs, and is devoted and affectionate to humans who are willing to give her space and allow Pan to figure them out and build trust.******Pan will need an experienced home, and other dog(s) to help her become more confident and trusting of strangers.Pan has the genetic ability to be and do nearly anything a human partner could possibly want, but her upbringing and lack of training has left holes that will need to be filled. From everything we can see, the journey will be entirely worth it. Pan recently met a stranger (to her) and was well behaved, engaging, and allowed handling (including feet!).*****Meet Pan! Pan is going to need a patient and confident home with another confident dog. She was not raised in an environment which allowed her to gain self confidence or courage. Pan has been in our care only a few days but has already made tremendous progress. Pan is great with other dogs but is currently reactive and fearful of other people. She will be going through some training here until we feel she is ready for, (and we find her) the perfect forever home.Pan is located in Maryland, and weighs appx 45 lbs.

Story
Intake date 19 July 2021neutered male chocolate tri herding breed mixy-mixApproximate birthdate 18 February 2021.Cliff was transferred from a rescue partner due to displays of reactivity in his foster home. We have no information on origin. PLEASE READ HIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING OR MAKING APPLICATION..Cliff is available for placement immediately to an experienced training centered home, with multiple stable dogs. He will not be placed into a home with children..Cliff is super cute, and has wonderful coloring. He will be rough coated, and is a red-tri with his coat color leaning towards dark chocolate. He is crate trained, is learning leash manners, as well as dog manners, and is learning how to be quite and welcoming in a home..Cliff has had issues in the past with reactivity to strangers, and perhaps some resource guarding of his person (it was difficult to differentiate in the behavioral videos we were sent). Cliff was unofficially diagnosed with Spoiled Puppy Syndrome, and we wholeheartedly agree. After a brief introduction/handoff at a shelter, Cliff has been fearful, but non-reactive and is quickly coming around thanks to being handled like a working dog -- a little guidance, rules, parameters, and boundaries and lots of good exposure with grown dogs to help him understand. This pup is showing us he get`s it, and is very smart and willing. Anyone interested in adopting Cliff should be prepared to continue the work started here. Cliff will be placed with a training contract with a deposit to be refunded after the successful completion of multiple training classes (type and time frame to be determined during the adoption process)..This dog is located in Maryland - we do not ship or transport dogs. For information on adoption, an FAQ, and our application, please see our website at mabcr.org. If you are interested in adoption, please submit an application, complete with documentation..Dogs that have not lived previously with children will not be offered to homes where young children reside. We do not `test` dogs with children or cats, since testing may not show an accurate picture, and may give false comfort to their new home. If a dog has lived with children or cats, that will be stated above..Please note that some young dogs may be placed with a neuter deposit and contract, and any available dog may be placed with a training deposit and contract -- this would be noted on offer

Story
Intake date 19 August 2023 . appx 8 month old, 26 lb, smooth coated, tri-colored neutered male. . Cooper has an excellent personality, a desire to explore the world and he needs a human partner to lead the way. He’s going to have plenty of his own confidence, but for now he needs a little nudge to show him how amazing he is! . As typical for his age, Cooper is beginning to notice and question people across the street and other outdoor sounds (motorcycles, big trucks, busses, lawn mowers, etc.). He redirects easily with positive reinforcement and he loves both food and toys. Cooper would do best with someone who has some experience with training high energy breeds and providing an outlet for them both physically and mentally. He has an impressive ability to jump super high, and we’ve worked to channel that gleeful bounce instead of squashing it. No jumping on humans allowed, but you can totally bounce along next to us like Tigger or pounce on your ball!! . Cooper has responded well to positive reinforcement, he is crate trained, walks reasonably on leash, is excellent with other dogs, and enjoys humans after a slow intro. We do not know how he is with kids or cats, though I suspect a training minded home could integrate. . This dog was part of a hoarding case, and while all of the dogs involved have great temperaments and are adjusting well to living in a home, folks interested in adopting should understand that they will need support and encouragement on their road to learning to `dog` normally. Attending classes and working to build partnership will be an important part of the plan to adding a new pup to your home. . This dog is located in Maryland - we do not ship or transport dogs. For information on adoption, an FAQ, and our application, please see our website at mabcr.org. If you are interested in adoption, please submit an application, complete with documentation. .
