Story
Woody (now called Frodo) is fostered in Sioux City, Iowa.
Drum roll please!!! Introducing the cutest, handsomest boi Frodo!!!! This 38lb black tri standard Australian Shepherd LOVES to snuggle up, get belly rubs, play and run around the yard. Frodo has a lot of energy, as is expected from a young Australian Shepherd. Our vet estimates that he is between 2-3 years old.
Frodo is quite agile and can clears the foot kitchen gate without hesitation; can we say agility prospect? He is now learning to respect the 3+ foot gate. Frodo previously lived in a small apartment with two large dogs and did not receive enough exercise or training. He is learning SOOOO quickly in his foster home! He is eager to please his person, especially when he is rewarded for doing the right thing. He knows a few commands, such as ‘sit’, ‘shake’, ‘off’, and ‘kennel’. It took him just one day to learn ‘shake’, so he is intelligent and capable of learning. He is still learning good manners, so he does require an adopter who is committed to continuing his training.
Frodo is housebroken and has never had an accident in the house. Frodo loves taking long sniff walks and generally doesn’t pull on the leash. He does not react to other dogs while on the leash – nor to the neighborhood opossum he encounters on the nightly walks. He would love to chase the rabbits, but he understands ‘no’ and will not go crazy on the leash. Like most Aussies, Frodo eats everything and is especially fond of fruits and vegetables – tomatoes, apples, peppers, broccoli – all these are treats! Luckily, he has not figured out that these he could eat them straight from the garden. Are you a gardener with too many fruits and veggies? He can help with that!!!
Frodo is a bit reserved at first – both with other dogs as well as people. He has learned that meeting new people comes with cookies and yummy treats. He warms up to women quitckly but takes his time with men, probably because of something he experienced in his past. He gets along fabulously with his foster brother another Aussie, who is an easy-going submissive dog. Frodo gets along great with cats. The resident cat was completely ignored during his first week in the foster home, but Frodo has now joined the resident dog in occasional cat chasing. The resident cat is OK with that though.
As much as Frodo likes to play with his dog friend, he would probably be OK as an only dog because he is very human-oriented. He is a typical Velcro dog who joins his people everywhere – including the bathroom. He also takes guarding the house seriously and barks at suspicious things like the mailman and that pesky squirrel that comes to sit on the porch. He is comfortable in his kennel and sleeps in it throughout the night – although he would prefer to sleep in the human bed if he could. Frodo also loves car rides and behaves himself well in public spaces.
Frodo is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm preventatives. Plus he is 100% certifiably adorable.
