Story
JD is a lover! We have had him since a pup and he turns 10 this September. We went back and forth on if we could keep him, but with the addition of our daughter and future children we cannot give him the attention, time, and love that he needs and deserves. He loves to be active as well as cuddle in bed. He is great to take on runs because he likes to move fast. He is very smart. He is also very food driven. He does not get along with our toddler and it has become difficult to give them both what they need. He is used to going to the bathroom outside 3-4 times a day. We want him to find a safe home with someone who can be better dog parents than us. He is truly a loving dog, but with our lifestyle deserves more. He is still so energetic and agile, you would not believe he will be 10. If you want cuddles, love, and a buddy who always wants to hang out JD is a great dog for you.

Story
Axel is fostered in Pekin, IL.   Axel and his brother (Clutch) found themselves homeless after their owner passed.  Axel is a 45 lb blue merle male Australian Shepherd.  We're guessing him to be roughly 8-11 years young and you definitely wouldn't know it by his actions. Both boys are super active and wonderful dogs for (what we were told were) their ages.   Axel is very sweet and super eager to please.  Axel LOVES attention. Axel has done well with his crate - going in easily and quickly, settling down, and no whining.  He has great house manners and likely does not even need to be crated.  He and his foster dad have crashed on the couch together a few times and he’s still right there when I wake up in the middle of the night…no accidents or destruction. Axel has an occassional spurt of excitement with the cat, where he either completely ignores or goes into herding mode, so a dog-savvy cat would be recommended.  His ideal home would have a physically fenced yard.  Axel has done well with grooming - brushing, nail trims, bathing, etc.  Axel also enjoys riding in the car, walks well on a leash and is overall, a pretty happy boy.  Axel is starting to show an interest in fetch and frisbee.  He has done well socializing with people, teenagers and other dogs of all sizes.   Axel is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2250501##

Story
Cactus is fostered in Garden City, MO.  This spirited 2-year-old foster pup is bursting with personality and ready to bring joy to your home! Cactus is the ultimate playmate, always eager to chase a ball and engage in a fun game of fetch. When the playtime winds down, you’ll find him snuggling at the end of your bed, keeping you company as he dreams of his next adventure.  Cactus came to us after being dumped at a home with another dog.  Cactus had a terrible coat and was missing patches of fur.  He has been seen and medically cleared.  With good food and love of his foster parents, he has blossomed into a beautiful gorgeous red tri boy.   Not only is Cactus a fantastic companion, but he’s also your very own doorbell—he’ll let you know when visitors arrive! He gets along wonderfully with both cats and other dogs, proving he’s a social butterfly. With a heart full of love for toys and a food motivation that will make training a breeze, Cactus is sure to win you over with his adorable wiggle butt!  Cactus does prefer to have another dog in the home as he is still building confidence, and he would ideally love someone that is home more often than not - maybe someone who works from home part-time.   Already kennel and house trained, this delightful pup is ready to find his forever home and bring a spring in your step. Don’t miss out on the chance to welcome Cactus into your life!  Please visit our website to find out more about our adoption process and submit an adoption application for this handsome redhead.   Cactus is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. Story
Alfie is being fostered in Cincinnati OH Meet Alfie!  Alfie is a blue merle male, standard Australian Shepherd, who is just over a year old and currently weighs approximately 35lbs.  We imagine Alfie will stay on the smaller side even at his full weight, possibly gettin to 45 lbs at max.  Alfie is a typical aussie that LOVES to go for walks, play with sqeaky toys, and play with his foster sibling that is the same age and size.  Once a good play session is over, he will curl up next to his foster momma.  He definitely has a nice off switch.   Alfie would do best with some that is experienced with the herding breed, and has some prior dog handling experience.  He was was WAY to much dog for his prior owner and because of this, he came to us with some undesired behavioral traits which his foster mom has been working on.  She has solicited help of a trainer and he has responded remarkably well.  When arriving in rescue, he had no manners or self control.  He has learned SO MUCH and with his foster mom's help, he is doing amazing at leash walking, not barking at things that frighten him and getting used to lots of different stimuli.  Given this information, Alfie will do best with a home that would continue the training he has been doing, even working with his foster mom on what this looks like.  This is a MUST for his forever home.  We recommend a home with children over 12 years of age.  Off leash, Alfie enjoys meeting and greeting people and other dogs. On leash, Alfie can become unsure of himself so this is an area he will continue to work on.  Alfie enjoys playing with other dogs, so a playful dog and a physically fenced yard would be ideal for Alfie.  If you are looking for a devoted companion, who will curl up with you, go on long walks, runs, or maybe agility, this is your boy!!! Alfie is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, negative for tick borne diseases, microchipped and taking monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. Story
Arthur is fostered in Pontiac MO This handsome boy is Arthur.  He ha been with us since August and he is a 2 - 3 year old male, currently weighing about 60 lbs.and at shoulder 24’ and top of head 33’.  Arthur has already stolen our hearts! This charming fellow was found as a stray around July 4th, where kind neighborhood families fed him while searching for his owners. When he came to us, he was severely matted, but after a some grooming, his coat is softening up beautifully thanks to proper nutrition and good love. With a DNA test revealing that he’s 85% Australian Shepherd and 15% Boxer, we affectionately call him an Australian Boxherd. Arthur is a smart boy who knows commands like:  No, Sit, Down,  Shake and he's actually quite impressive.  At his intake vet appointment, it was discovered that Arthur was both ehrlichiosis (from ticks) and is also heartworm positive.  Arthur has gone through the gruesome heartworm treatment.  He will need to remain heartworm prevention for the duration of his life (as any dog should).   Arthur is a playful and affectionate boy who absolutely loves to play ball!  After his heartworm treatment, he is super eager to get back to chasing his favorite toy and enjoying life to the fullest.  This charming pup gets along wonderfully with the 5 resident dogs in his foster home.  He is sticks your side wherever you go. In the kitchen, he’s like a little shadow, alwayscurious about what’s happening—especially when it comes to the oven or dishwasher. You might even catch him with his nose in the cabinets, as his playful nature knows no bounds! Arthur is a tall guy, which means he could be a potential counter surfer, so watch out for any snacks left unattended!  He’s also known to be a paper enthusiast—if there’s paper on the table, it’s fair game for him.  Arthur potty trained and knows basic commands like “sit” and “down.” While he does have some enthusiasm on the leash, he’s learning and improving every day. To help with his eagerness at mealtime, we use a slow feeder bowl, so he can savor his food rather than gobbling it down.   Arthur is not just a beautiful dog with stunning eyes; he’s a friendly, funny, and goofy companion who will bring endless joy to your life. If you’re looking for a best friend who is full of love and laughter, Arthur is your guy! Arthur is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  He has been medically cleared after heartworm treatment.  Proof of heartworm for any past or current pets must be provided to adopt from our rescue. MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2142296##

Story
Commander, now called Harbour is fostered in Ottumwa, IA. Harbour is a stunningly beautiful boy.  He is an 8 year old, standard blue merle male Australian Shepherd. He weighs approximately 40 lbs.  He was a former breeder, who was relinquished to our rescue. Harbour is looking for his retirement home, where he can learn to be a dog, open up and live a life of luxury. Harbour is a little bit timid and shy given his prior life was that of a stud dog.  He is crate trained and potty trained.  He does wonderful with other dogs and cats.  Harbour would do best in a slower-paced home that has another outgoing, social dog.  He is incredibly sweet, but he is still learning what the good life is like.   Harbour would do best with a home that is committed to his socialization and building his confidence.  Since arriving in rescue, he has already opened up a lot, but we would love to see him shine even more in the right environment.  Harbour is ok on leash, but could use a little additional training in this area.  He would be considered medium energy.  He will require a physically fenced yard and a home with no children under 12 years of age.  Harbour is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  If you're ready to show this senior boy what luxury is, please visit our website to learn more about our rescue, our adoption process and submit an adoption application. www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2284853##
