Story
Yes, my name’s Peter, but no, I do NOT pick any pickled peppers! I do love me a good belly rub, though! I also love playing fetch, and if you’re not going to throw the toy for me, I’ll throw it for myself! Soccer balls are my favorite!! After some lifestyle changes, my family decided I wasn’t a good fit and dropped me off at a shelter. Man, was that scary! Thankfully, a kind lady came and got me out of there! I’m now living with two big furry friends in my foster home. I loved that my foster mom took time to introduce me to my furry foster siblings instead of just throwing me to the wolves! They’re very respectful of my space and I really like that. My foster momma says I’m good at respecting their space, too. Wanna know what’s cool? I’m crate trained, potty trained, and even know how to sit! I wait patiently for my leash when it’s time to go outside and listen when I’m told I need to sit and wait before racing out the door. Cold outside? No problem! I can snuggle and keep you warm! And don’t worry, I’ll give you a gentle nudge with my nose to remind you to keep petting me! I LOVE to run and play and because of this, I think I’d do best in an active home willing to give me the exercise I need. Because I don’t have experience with cats or small animals, I think I might be too interested to coexist with them. I do promise to be your loyal friend, however! We can go on walks together, play together, and snuggle together!! Doesn’t that sound wonderful?! Go ahead, go fill out that application at SandiPaws.org! I’ll be waiting for you!! A family to call my own would be the bestest Christmas present ever!!Thank you for your interest in a Sandi Paws Rescue, Inc. Story
Meet Lucy, a lovely 30 lb Blue Heeler mix. If you`re looking for a dog that loves to snuggle, play, and just be near her people, look no further! Lucy has lived in a home with a fenced in yard as well as a home where she needed to potty on leashed walks. She is easily distracted, so she needs a consistent location and reminders to go potty before fun things happen in the beginning (first 3-5 days). She has not given cues that she wants to go out yet, but has done very well with a routine. She is now starting to go potty with less rigor as she has become familiar with our neighborhood and walking route (we start with the potty spot but then she goes again at the end of the walk without being asked to.)Lucy REALLY loves her people and wants to be near them whenever she can - she is a great couch snuggler! She likes to meet new people, but if they are going to enter the house then introductions should be tried outside first or with her behind a gate as she has displayed the heeler/terrier tendency to guard her people from unfamiliar intruders by growling. She does accept new people into the house and seeks pets after a few minutes. This may improve with time and confidence as she has only been in her current environment for a week. She lived with 14 other small dogs at one point and as an only dog currently. As a young adult heeler she can become overstimulated so a single, well matched dog sibling or as an only dog would be best. She has reacted positively to adult dogs her size or smaller (mostly female) as well as been very forgiving with puppies. ABSOLUTELY NO CATS as she has a very high prey drive - if it runs she will chase it.Lucy has not lived with kids but has interacted with them in public. She has been cuddly and affectionate with respectful children who did not `come in hot` straight to her face but allowed her to come to them. She has given a corrective air bite when charged by a running child, so her space and safety will need to be protected by her humans (like with any dog). She currently sleeps in a crate but is not fond of it. She has made her desires known that she would really prefer to steal your bed, but with consistent training a happy medium should be possible where she sleeps on a dog bed outside of the crate. She has been left alone in the crate for short amounts of time, and each time has started with 10-15 minutes of drama before she settles down. We have successfully left her alone outside of
