Story
Robert is a quiet fellow. He is a bit shy, but is easily won over by treats and kind words. He loves cuddling and really enjoys haveing his ears rubbed. Robert likes to explore his environment. He is also crate trained and potty trained. He is working on leash training and is making progress. Robert tried to make friends with the resident cats and but backed off when they hissed at him. He is also doing well with the other dogs in the home. Robery loves to sit next to you on the couch on on your lap if you let him.  He did not get the memo that cuddling is anti-heeler.  Come meet this sweet boy and fall in love.Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org January 24, 2025, 9:50 pm

Story
Remy is playful, eager to please, food motivated and very intelligent. He absolutely loves other dogs and has made a lot of canine friends on daily walks. He would do great if he had a canine sibling and a fenced yard to play in. Remy is loyal and wonderful to his family. He loves running after a ball or a stick or frisbee and is learning to bring them back to his person. He also loves his toy collection and will go his basket of toys and pick something out when he is bored! We told you he is smart! He needs a slow introduction with strangers because people he does not know appear to make him nervous. He is crate trained and potty trained, and would make an excellent jogging or hiking companion. He knows basic commands like sit, down, shake, and he knows to wait patiently for his food at mealtimes. He is currently in a home with a kitten and the two of them get along great. If you are interested in this beautiful and active dog, please let us know. Thank you for your interest in Remy (formerly Caramel)! Story
Meet Poochie ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Poochie is a handsome, outgoing pup, who loves to play! This boy is super smart and affectionate. He knows many commands and is eager to learn more! Poochie has not been handling the stressful kennel life well and he's in dire need of a foster home or adopter. He's a med-high energy dog and has lived with dogs before, but does best with slow intros and dogs that respect his boundaries. He would also be happy as the only pet so he could get all of your love and attention. Poochie is very affectionate and loves attention and would be a sweet companion to anyone looking to have the handsomest, loveliest pup by their side. Poochie is in need of an experienced foster or adopter who will help him decompress from the stressful shelter environment. ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 50 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Poochie gets along with dogs but prefers to live with a dog that can match his vibe and would do fine as a solo as well. KNOWN WITH CATS: Poochie is not good with cats KNOWN WITH KIDS: Poochie is a little shy when people reach for his head. He also gets nervous when small children run, scream, or play loudly. Recommend he goes home with kids 14+. KNOWN COMMANDS: Poochie knows sit, down, paw, look, come, and is eager to learn more. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Poochie doesn't like hearing all the dogs bark so he doesn't appear to mind being in a crate away from other dogs and noise. KNOWN LIKES: Affection, treats, water, butt scratches, sand, playing with toys, and training KNOWN DISLIKES: Kennel life. He can be head shy and does not like people reaching for his head. ___________________________________ If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: trailshomefarm@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: Trails Home Farm, 2581 Winchester Rd, Delaplane, VA ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Trails Home Farm Staff HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: All dogs located at Trails Home Farm are in Delaplane, VA and require an appointment for approved applicants to have a meet and greet. This fee INCLUDES spay/neuter and microchip. **Ask me about our many adoption benefits that include free exams, pet insurance, training and other discounts! ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 44 LB KNOWN WITH DOGS: Muffin is currently living with four dogs. It took a period of adjustment but now she enjoys relaxing near the resident dogs (though her human will always be her favorite). Muffin also has accepted a variety of foster dogs and dog guests. She adjusts to dogs her size or smaller more quickly, and to dogs that will give her space. She doesn't play with other dogs but will follow them around, and help chase critters out of the yard. Muffin could also be happy as an only dog as long as you are mostly home. KNOWN WITH CATS: Muffin has visited a home with cats and kept her distance. With slow and careful introduction we think she should do fine. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Muffin should be fine with children who will let her warm up to them at her own pace. Children running toward her will scare her. She is a good natured dog and will be gentle with children who wait for her to approach. KNOWN COMMANDS: Muffin's learning basic commands. She comes when called, she knows sit and go to bed. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING/OR CRATING: Muffin's got the whole housebreaking thing baked into her routine! She finds the crate stressful but luckily doesn't need to be crated. This girl can be totally trusted to be free in the home. KNOWN LIKES: Muffin's LOVES being around her humans, happily snoozing near you. She loves belly rubs, comfy dog beds, sunny spots, treats and meal time. DISLIKES: Muffin's not a fan of sudden movements, but with a little buttering up, she's getting braver by the day! Muffin doesn't like her human leaving but she's made huge progress, sitting by the window or near a dog friend until her human returns. She would do best in a home where someone is often home with her. She becomes scared and stressed in unknown environments and meeting new people, though she happily welcomes all visitors into the home. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Say hello to Muffin, the deliciously sweet and slightly shy 6-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix with the biggest smile.. She's a connoisseur of relaxation, enjoying cozy windowside naps and leisurely strolls. She enjoys the company of calmer dogs that will give her space when needed. Muffin's transition from rural to indoor life has been delectably smooth, thriving with a daily known routine, and now she's ready to find her forever home - the cherry on top of her delightful journey! Muffin came to Homeward Trails from a rural shelter. She was surrendered to the rural shelter by an elderly person who had too many animals and was overwhelmed caring for them. Our guess is that Muffin lived most if not all of her life outside. It's taken her zero time to decide inside life suits her just fine. Once this girl trusts you, she will be your shadow and loyal companion. little buttering up, she's getting braver by the day! Story
Nacho and his brother Taco are 50% Australian Cattle dog, 25% Jack Russel and 25% Supermutt! (per Embark DNA test). Notwithstanding their mix, both are moderate energy dogs and very well mannered. Nacho is smart and very alert. He likes TV -no joke. He enjoyed watching the women's soccer finals during the Olympics on his foster dad's lap and barely moved during the game. He knows how to relax!! He would love to go to a home with a fenced yard and another playful dog. He is best buds with one of the foster's other dogs and has met many doggy friends at the adoption events that he loves. Here is what Nacho wanted you to know about himself -well this was before we got the DNA results and did not know he was only 1/2 Aussie!G'day, mate! An Aussie cattle dog here, what they call a 'red heeler' from Down Under, partly my color and part my nature. I am still a youngster and love to play. Crikey! My foster da' says I am smart, alert and eager to learn the tricks of the trade. No worries in the crate and I'm house trained (mostly), do well on a leash, come to the whistle and I chase down and bring in the toys.. Ideally, looking for a person or family with another dog and a fenced in yard so that we have room to run. And, I am fine with the little blokes and sheilas (meaning I really like children too!). Come on down to the adoption day and have a look, stop by and say 'G'day!'.If you would like to say G'day to Nacho please let us know. He would be very pleased to make your acquaintance! Pepper AB is very affectionate and loves to snuggle. Her foster shares that she enjoys long walks around the neighborhood and walks very nicely on the leash. She rides well in the car and loves to fetch balls in the back yard. She knows sit, down, come and stay, and is eager to learn more commands. She is eager to please, and is very smart.
