Name: Trixie Best Guess for Breed: Red Heeler and Terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of Sept. 2024 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 50 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen Trixie with kids, but she can be tested! Trixie should not go to a home with cats. Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter - Trixie needs a foster or adopter to make her way to the DC area Special Adoption Considerations: Trixie is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
