Story
Hi, I am Shinzo: an 10 yr old, 70 lb male McNab mix. The first word that comes to mind when you see me is regal, being poised in my stature, walk and behavior, but you might catch me playfully hopping with my dog buddies. When we first meet I need a moment to stand back to check you out just to determine if you're friend or foe, but don't worry...I'm a love bug after I've made my decision and see that you are worthy. I get along great with the dogs in my foster house, and I am great with kids. (Sorry, I don't like cats though.) I prefer not to bark (even when others are) as I am too well-mannered, but I have a wonderful deep bark if needed. I already know how to use a doggy door and am completely trained to do my business outside. Unlike some of my herding friends, I'm not hyperactive. I do need room and time to exercise (wait till you see how good I am on a leash!) but I also enjoy a nice nap at your side. I might nudge you with my nose if I feel you're ignoring me, but you'll think it's super cute. Don't fret, this regal boy doesn't require a throne...just a home and family where I can show you what a perfect dog I am to love and to love you.Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $100. Story
Meet Oso, a 2-year-old mix with a complex genetic heritage including (per Embark DNA test) Australian Cattle, German Shepherd, Border Collie, American Pit Bull Terrier, Chow Chow, McNab, and Australian Shepherd. He's a charmer with an adorable underbite and a heart of gold. Oso gets along well with other dogs once introduced properly and is a cuddle enthusiast. Oso does carry emotional scars from his past, particularly regarding his interactions with men. Initial introductions require patience and gentleness to help him overcome his fear and build trust. Furthermore, Oso exhibits guarding tendencies around toys and treats. He has never bitten but he vocalizes his discomfort through barks and lunges. With consistent training and positive reinforcement, Oso is learning to share and coexist peacefully with his furry companions. His unique blend of breeds contributes to his intelligence and adaptability, making him a versatile & engaging companion.Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. Story
Hi there! I'm River, and I've been told that I'm basically love in doggy form. I'm an affectionate 5-year-old guy who wants nothing more than to be where my people are. I love to give hugs and curl up next to you on the couch, and if I can't do that then I'll sit quietly at your feet while you work. One of my very favorite things is to put my front paws on your leg or arm, to let you know that I'm here and I love you. I don't want to brag, but it has been said that I'm essentially 50 pounds of heart covered in soft, caramel covered fur. Before coming to CAWS I was mostly kept in a backyard, but now I'm learning about the big world out there. I like to go for walks around the neighborhood, but other than that I don't require a lot of exercise. I don't mind other dogs, but I'm not super playful with them. My current house has a very energetic dog and she tries to play with me all the time; I just politely decline and she eventually stops trying. I do have a silly side, though - you'll see it when you squirt me with the hose or turn on the sprinklers. I LOVE playing in the water! I think I'd prefer to live with adults, since I don't really understand this thing called 'spatial reasoning' and it's possible that I would accidentally knock over little kids. According to my DNA test, I'm an Australian Shepherd / Border Collie mix. Which means that while I deeply love my people and want to pour allll my love into them, I can be a little slow to warm up to new people. And as a true herding dog, I sometimes respond to stress by getting a little nippy. My ideal people will be familiar with these behaviors and respectful of my need for space at times. The good news is that I'm super quiet in my crate and will happily hang out in there when you have visitors. (Bonus points if I have something yummy to chew on!) Story
Chopper is a 2-ish year old blue heeler mix. Chopper was a community dog on the reservation, and was rescued after he had an encounter with a porcupine and needed medical attention. He has had quills removed twice, and deeply embedded quills are expected to continue to surface for several more months. Chopper is a sweet energetic boy that loves attention and cuddles. He thinks everyone is his best friend, and he has enthusiastic body wiggles when he wags his tail. He is crate trained and house trained. Chopper does sometimes pee when approached, but has been making great progress when approached gently. He loves to play and wrestle with his dog friends, and also loves a good cuddle on the couch. He loves to jump around and try to do aerial acrobatics when his meals are being brought to him. As Chopper is still new to being a pet, he will need an adopter that will be patient while working on general skills, such as basic obedience, learning to walk on a leash, and how to ride in a car. Chopper is a wonderful dog with a huge personality, and with the right training will be an amazing companion.Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. This is Striker Boy, a very sweet and funny blue heeler mix looking for his forever home. Striker is about 50 pounds and around 2 years old. He is a medium energy dog and would love to accompany you on all of your adventures. He'll cuddle you but also follow you everywhere you go - best of both worlds! He thinks he's a lap dog and likes to be babied. He is house trained and loves playing with toys, especially balls. True to his breed, Striker tries to herd other animals and even you sometimes, pushing you gently with his nose. Cattle dogs are also known for their loyalty and intelligence, which Striker has in abundance. He is also incredibly smart and loves food and treats. He's a fast learner and takes treats gently from your hand. Striker is great with other dogs, and would love another dog in his forever home too. He also does great with kids. Striker would be a great addition to any family. He's a sweet and fun-loving goofball, always ready to make you laugh with his playful antics. He'll be the best companion/friend for anyone. Story
This little, spunky girl is Xena and she is ready to find her new forever family. She is a year old Heeler mix that is good with other dogs with a proper introduction and should be adopted to a home with another dog. Xena is nervous of new people when she first meets them and having another confident dog around helps her deal with her people anxiety better. Xena is an active girl that loves to go for walks, play with other dogs, and play in the water. She does well with respectful kids once she gets to know them. She does think cats are quite fun to chase so she shouldn't live with one. She is a very smart girl that loves to learn and would love someone to keep taking her to training to help her continue to build her confidence around new people and experiences. She is fully crate trained, house trained and has great house manners. Xena is available for adoption through Lorelei's Legacy . Please contact them with any questions or if you would like to meet her.
