Story
Looking for a loyal, hiking-loving companion? Meet Canelo! Canelo is a gentleman with striking looks, who checks so many boxes for any dog lover. He is a calm-companion who is ready for it all, from naps on the couch to weekend get-aways to your favorite hiking spot. Canelo is estimated to be 4 years old which lends itself to that calmer, more mature energy. His fur patterning and body type lead us to believe he may be a cattle dog mix, the mix seems to have cancelled out the busy nature many cattle dogs are known for. Canelo is full grown and weighs 46 lbs, a perfect medium size boy! Keep in mind that given he is a rescue we cannot guarantee breed or age. In Canelo’s Get-To-Know video, seen here https://youtu.be/hrprt6Z-xi8 his foster introduces us to him from her personal experience. Having a dog in a foster home while they wait for their adoption day is amazingly beneficial. We get a front-row seat to who they are in an everyday home environment and they get to practice being a house dog. Canelo’s reports from his foster family all come back so positive! They have shared that he is a wonderful walking partner, joining in 1-2 walks a day, and is great on leash. He keeps a steady pace, occasionally letting his nose guide the way, and takes redirection well. One of his fosters favorite things when getting ready to head out on a walk with Canelo is how patiently he sits and waits by the door for her to leash him up. These walks are for getting some steps in and soaking up the sights. His foster home has a dedicated yard and we love sharing this detail- he is fully house-trained and has impeccable manners! No barking at the door, no jumping on guests, and no pushy displays of attention seeking. He’ll greet you with a sniff, then happily hang out nearby. He’s mellow around people and has been gentle with the older kids (10+) he has met. While we haven’t tested him with younger children, his calm demeanor suggests he’d do well in a laid-back home. Canelo isn’t reactive to other dogs and has stayed cool even when larger, unsupervised dogs have approached while on a walk. In his foster home he is the only dog and although he is great meeting dogs and sharing space with them, he would love to be a solo-dog soaking up the love. As for cats, none for Canelo, he is a little *too* interested in them! Canelo loves spending time with his humans and is happiest just being by your side. Whether you’re lounging at home, enjoying a walk, or exploring a hiking trail, he’s all in. He’s a grazer when it comes to food, never a gobbler, and sleeps peacefully in his open-door crate in the living room. He’ll even brave the rain and snow for potty breaks—talk about dedication! Because he loves with his whole heart, he will express a bit of sadness when his person leaves. His foster shared that he has whined at the door before when one of them has left. This separation anxiety will ease with time and consistency and he will learn to feel secure when you are away. He is smart, eager to please and has been easy to train, so whatever you choose to tackle together, he is going to shine. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who’s ready to fill your life with love, adventure, and loyalty, Canelo is ready and waiting! You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey! You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience!  The adoption fee is $825 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectible, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship!  We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.  Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Here’s the 411. I was cruising around the streets in Central Utah when the local Sheriff’s office decided that wasn’t a good thing. There was the old good cop/bad cop routine because I came into their holding pen packin’. I played along and answered their questions. Name: Olive M age: 2 1/2 yrs breed: Heeler/Hound mix (best guess) weight: 42 lbs. I wouldn’t give in to the question of how much I was packing, (I didn’t know!). The Sheriff knew I couldn’t stay and an arrangement was made for me to go to a rescue and that’s how I came to be with Rescue Rovers and my fosters. I’m so glad they took me in! I’m no longer packing pups; I delivered 6 beautiful pups and now I’m looking for my forever home. I’m house trained and walk well on a leash with the right collar. I’m timid with people I haven’t met but once I know & trust you I will be by your side and a good companion. I LOVE to play fetch! Being a submissive dog, a firm but gentle hand will do for me with encouragement to get me to follow your direction. My energy level is med-high. I need a home with children 8 and older because I’m unsure of younger kids; their movements are scary for me. I’m a hound mix and small animals are prey to me so no cats please!! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi I am Briggs Stratton, nice to meet you! I am a two year old neutered 35 lb red heeler mix.   I am such a happy boy! My parents say I am the perfect dog in every way. I have one flaw that my parents have been helping me work through. It takes me some time to warm up to new people; including my new family. I have been working on my fear with a dog trainer for months. I am so much better, but I am still a work in progress. My trainer even says he is willing to come to my new home and show you everything I have learned. I am ready to showoff for you. I will do best in a dog experienced home with knowledge of the herding breed. An adult only home or home with older kids would be best for me. I have never met a cat, but because of my breed, I would most likely want a cat free home. I am great on leash. I am crate and potty trained. I am fine in my crate at night, but I also do well on my dog bed. I do stay in my crate for 8+ hours a day while my foster pawrents work with no issues. I am e-collar trained, have no food or toy aggression. I do well with other dogs of all sizes , but would also do fine as a solo dog in my new home . I am a pretty mellow guy. My mom would give me a 5 on the energy level scale, but I do occasionally get the zoomies. I really am a sweet dog that wants a forever family. If you have the patience to get to know me, please reach out to Rescue Rovers.   My foster mom loves me and wants to find me the perfect home. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi mom/dad, my name is Bennson! I’m a 5 month old puppy, and I currently weigh 20 pounds. I’ll probably weigh about 40 pounds or less once I’m fully grown, aka the perfect size! It’s estimated that I’m some sort of cattle dog mix. As you can see by my unique face and my speckled black tongue, I probably have a couple other loyal breeds mixed in as well. Whatever my DNA says, I’m 100% a cute boy! More about me: I sleep soundly in my crate at night and whenever I’m home alone. I only go potty outside and will continue to benefit from a consistent potty schedule. I can be shy around new people, but I tend to warm up quickly. I love chew toys, playing with my foster siblings, exploring outside, and playing some more. Did I mention I am smart? I learned “sit” and “down” in just a few minutes of my foster mom training me. I’m very food motivated and excited to keep learning new things! Lastly, I love other dogs! I could probably coexist with a cat, but I would much rather share a home with another dog (or two!) because I love to play with them and learn from them. I love kids too, as long as they understand my boundaries. I’m not picky, I would just love a family that I can be a part of for my whole life and one who will love me unconditionally. If you think you could be that family, please apply to meet me today! https://bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 19, 2025, 3:12 pm
