ALL-AROUND GREAT COMPANION DOB 8/28/23, weight 39 lb. Hey there, everyone! I’m Willie, a sweet, friendly, and affectionate Cattle Dog/ Black Lab mix who loves spending quality time close by my hoomans. In my quiet way, I want to be wherever Foster Mom is. I’m sociable with people who want to engage, but I don't annoy or demand hooman attention. I’m a handsome dude who’s as fantastic on the inside as I look on the outside! I’m playful when it’s playtime, but I settle down and happily chill out at Foster Mom’s feet while she reads. I quietly sleep at the end of her bed and snuggle next to her thigh on the sofa as we binge together on Animal Planet and Netflix. I walk well on a leash and really enjoy long walks in the neighborhood so I can sniff and explore new things. I’m smart and eager to please, so I’m easily trained and catch on quickly. I’ve got the compact build and head of an Cattle Dog, but my short, smooth black coat with white locket and vest indicate that Lab blood is probably also coursing through my veins. Since Cattle Dogs are herding dogs, we’re in our groove when we’re given a job to do that engages us both mentally and physically. With our boundless energy and keen intelligence, we excel at dog sports like agility and make excellent running partners. To keep us out of mischief, our hoomans should avoid allowing us to get bored! A Good Samaritan found me as a stray who was probably dumped on the side of the busy Grand Parkway in front of the PetSmart in Richmond. She posted on FaceBook that she had found me, but no one responded. After bouncing around to several homes for my first few days post-rescue, I was ecstatic when my future foster mom stepped up to the plate and agreed to foster me. I haven't been tested around kids, but I'm probably young and gentle enough to live happily in a home with small children. I'm the only dog in my foster home, but I'm friendly when I meet other dogs on my walks (and tug on my leash when I see a cat that I want to chase). Now I’m ready to find my forever home. I'm Poppy, an affectionate, playful, and energetic Australian Kelpie/ German Pinscher mix gal who’s also very sweet and gives lots of kisses. I've got the ears and build of the Australian Kelpie, who was bred to herd sheep, but I'm the size and colors of a German Pinscher. Meet Clyde! You may remember Clyde’s sad story of cruelty and neglect. We were shocked when we saw his pictures and heard how he had literally been strangled with a belt by his so called owner. His strangulation caused a massive deep cut all around his neck and caused the blood not be able to circulate resulting in his face ballooning until he was unrecognizable. He was confiscated from his owner and charges are pending. In the meantime, we brought him into our rescue and have nursed him back to health. We could tell he didn’t know what it was like to be treated kindly, but after talking to him a bit and giving him love, he started wagging his tail. He is BEYOND sweet!! Check him out HERE playing with his friends at daycare! We are happy to report that with the help of the vets, we provided pictures and info on the extent of his injuries to the Harris County DA's office. His former owner was prosecuted and justice was done! Clyde is about 4-5 years old and a Cattle Dog mix of sorts. He’s friendly and fun-loving but cautious with new people until he knows you mean him no harm. He does great with most other dogs that are medium to large in size. He is high-energy, so he would do best in an active home and with another active dog that can play, and play, and play with him! He’s not especially fond of cats, so a home without cats is a must. Clyde is just the sweetest, although he does get his feelings hurts easily when corrected, so he is a quick learner and pleaser. Makes training a piece of cake! Clyde is doing fabulous in his foster home with his 2 canine siblings, but he would really love to find a forever home where he never has to worry again!
