(This is an AKC breed that is NOT an Australian Cattle Dog with a docked tail.) We are a naturally bob-tailed breed that stands square with plenty of leg-length under our bodies. My hooman mom describes me as “a great family dog” because I get along great with adults, kids, cats, and other dogs. You name it, I’m easy to please. Like my brother Gordo, I can’t get enough of playing fetch, and I’m an expert at focusing on the ball. I should be an Astros outfielder! PARTNER IN CRIME -- HE'S DOWN ANY TIME! Age: Young enough to learn, old enough to know better (1.5 years) Weight: Schmedium (41lbs) Hey Human, they call me Willie! Even though I look like a basic, black Cattle Dog – don’t judge me by my looks! Because if you ask the humans who helped rescue me, they will say that it’s my “If you’re down, I am down!” attitude that makes me so lovable. So much so, that a group of people have rallied behind me to find me my forever home. Maybe that is you? My rescue story is one that really shows how it takes a community to make rescue happen! A Good Samaritan found me as a stray who was probably dumped on the side of the busy Grand Parkway in front of the PetSmart in Richmond. He posted on Facebook, knocked on doors, and was then connected to HOPE who helped network me to find a foster to love and care for me. After bouncing around to several homes for my first few days post-rescue, I was ecstatic when my future foster mom stepped up to the plate and agreed to foster me. I was the only dog in my foster home, but I'm curious when I meet other dogs on my walks (and tug on my leash when I see a cat that I want to chase) but with some structure and delicious chicken, I am making better choices in no time! Currently my time ran out with my temporary foster – so I will be in a boarding facility until someone steps up to help me. Come on rescue community! Can you be the one to give me temporary reprieve? If you do choose to help me – just know that wherever you are, I will be napping nearby waiting for the next moment that I can climb in your lap for some snuggles or just some well-placed pats. Although I love being loved by my people, I do not pester them for affection. I'm playful when it's playtime, but I settle down and happily chill out at Foster Mom's feet while she reads. Being left alone at first was something I struggled with, but with consistent reassurance that my foster always returns in conjunction with a delicious foraging item in my crate – I am much more amenable to waiting for my partner in crime to get back home. I am very intelligent (hello, Cattle Dog!) and catch on quickly to training. I also LOVE treats – so training me is not only a fun experience for us both, but I would love to learn more fun tricks to show off to your friends. I already know how to automatically sit to say “please!” and have great eye contact. Now the only eyes I am trying to catch, are those of my forever parent! Could that be you? Meet Clyde! You may remember Clyde’s sad story of cruelty and neglect. We were shocked when we saw his pictures and heard how he had literally been strangled with a belt by his so called owner. His strangulation caused a massive deep cut all around his neck and caused the blood not be able to circulate resulting in his face ballooning until he was unrecognizable. He was confiscated from his owner and charges are pending. In the meantime, we brought him into our rescue and have nursed him back to health. We could tell he didn’t know what it was like to be treated kindly, but after talking to him a bit and giving him love, he started wagging his tail. He is BEYOND sweet!! Check him out HERE playing with his friends at daycare! We are happy to report that with the help of the vets, we provided pictures and info on the extent of his injuries to the Harris County DA's office. His former owner was prosecuted and justice was done! Clyde is about 4-5 years old and a Cattle Dog mix of sorts. He’s friendly and fun-loving but cautious with new people until he knows you mean him no harm. He does great with most other dogs that are medium to large in size. He is high-energy, so he would do best in an active home and with another active dog that can play, and play, and play with him! He’s not especially fond of cats, so a home without cats is a must. Clyde is just the sweetest, although he does get his feelings hurts easily when corrected, so he is a quick learner and pleaser. Makes training a piece of cake! Clyde is doing fabulous in his foster home with his 2 canine siblings, but he would really love to find a forever home where he never has to worry again! GIVES MUSHY PUPPY KISSES Est. DOB 7/1/23, weight 25 lbs. Hi! I'm Poppy, an affectionate, playful, and energetic Australian Kelpie/ German Pinscher mix gal who’s also very sweet and gives lots of kisses. I've got the ears and build of the Australian Kelpie, who was bred to herd sheep, but I'm the size and colors of a German Pinscher. I’m an outgoing, sociable pooch whom many people wanted to pet recently when I rode around in the shopping cart at Home Depot. Did I mention I LOVE getting petted -- especially on my belly? Nothing makes me happier than interactively playing with my pawrents with double-tug rope-toys as well as marathon games of Frisbee. I’m a happy, wiggly gal who loves zooming around the yard. I like to chew on things -- mostly bones and my squeaky toys. My foster family works out in their garage, and I haven't quite gotten the hang of quietly sitting still while they work, but I’m learning because I just enjoy spending time with them. When I was a young puppy, I was adopted from a local shelter, but later my family abandoned me in my future-foster family's neighborhood. I guess you know that, because of inflation, lots of owners can’t afford their pets and are either dumping them or leaving them behind when they move out. Thank heavens my foster pawrents brought me inside and promised to find me a wonderful forever home. I enjoy playing with their older female dog, but the senior cat hasn’t yet warmed up to my friendly overtures. So now I’m ready for a permanent home this time around.
