Story
I am a %100 Disabled American Veteran. I had a Service Dog for 10 years. He passed away on Christmas Eve. I have a puppy that is training to do his job. I have some serious health issues and I have a total of 5 dogs. Shad O is way too high energy for me and it is disrupting my health issues and causing me a hard time with training the puppy. Shad O is a great dog. He loves to cuddle. He is great with kids, other dogs, cat curious. He is very energetic and needs a home with another dog or kids so that his energy needs get met. I was hoping that he goes with the service dog program that gave me this website. Shad O is 11 months old, neutered and shots updated and microchipped. He is house trained and potty trained. He really needs a home ASAP, as I don't know how much longer I will be able to physically and mentally be able to keep him

Story
Henry got his name because he’s as sweet as the candy bar. He’s a one year-old 42 pound Australian Cattle Dog/Carolina Dog with reddish coloring, stand-up ears, a corkscrew tail, and one blue eye and one brown eye. He’s also got a sprinkling of freckles across his nose. He arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/18 as a stray. As you’re looking at the photos you’re probably thinking that he’s a handsome boy. I agree. But what’s even better is that he’s got an engaging personality. When I first met him in the kennel, he stood up and gave me a hug. He sits for treats and takes them gently. He’s very affectionate. He wags his tail, indicating he’s a happy boy. He does occasionally jump on you but gets down when told to do so. He’s active and likes to climb. He’s friendly, affectionate, alert, and very sweet. He did his business when he got out into the yard. He wagged his corkscrew tail when he met other dogs. And he walked fine on a leash. You’ll be the envy of your neighbors when you take Oh Henry for a walk. He would like a yard so he could get out and enjoy some sunshine, but he wants to be mostly an inside dog so he can spend time cuddling up and loving on his new family.

Story
Meet Val, found as a stray and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 2/11. Val weighs 56 pounds and is about 4 years old. My Dog Scanner app suggests possibly Aussie Kelpie and Dutch Shepherd in her breed mix. She is a high-spirited gal with lots of energy and enthusiasm. She will jump on you. She showed off her athleticism by climbing up on the play equipment in our yard. She was so intimidated by all the dogs barking at her that she had to be carried from her kennel to the hallway. However, at that time she walked beautifully on the leash. She is playful, friendly and affectionate and seeks out attention from a human friend. There is a lot to like about this precious girl. Can you help Val out of the shelter and on the way to her forever home

Story
Pete is storing up his love, tail wags and kisses for that special family that invites him to live in their home. Pete is a three-year-old 56 pound American Cattle Dog that came to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/4. I was met in his kennel with tail wags. I guess he was just anxious to get out because once he got out into the yard, he retreated to the corner for security. He’s timid and was leery about coming to me when I called him. I took him into the meet and greet room. He appeared to relax a little in there. He actually casually strolled up to me wagging his tail. So it’s obvious he wants to make friends. And once he did come to me, he gave me wet sloppy kisses. Once he becomes more acclimated to his environment, he will no doubt blossom. I suspect he will still be a calm, gentle, laid-back dog with just a little more spunk. He’s very sweet. And he’s also very soft. I can just imagine how good it would be to snuggle with him. He was intimidated by other dogs. He was hesitant walking on the leash and needed some coaxing. When Pete got out into the yard and did his business it looked like he had saved it for a long time. My guess is that he is house trained. He would do best with a laid-back easy-going family.

Story
Jersey wants you to know that he’s a good boy. Besides that, look at his incredible markings! I think he’s handsome! Jersey is a one year-old 50 pound Blue Heeler that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/4. When I walked around the yard, he walked right along beside me. Then when I went back by the door, he came and stood by me. It’s obvious he’s looking for a best friend and would be a loyal companion. He doesn’t seem to know the sit command but did back up trying to figure out what I was asking him to do. He’s highly motivated by treats and takes them gently. He wants to please and Blue Heelers are very intelligent he should be a quick study. When he was across the yard and I called him he came to me. Jersey is very sweet, friendly, calm, and affectionate. He did his business in the yard. He walked OK on a leash. He wasn’t really interested in meeting other dogs but didn’t show any aggression either. He’s a laid-back kind of guy that would love to have a yard to stretch his legs in but would want to spend most of his time hanging out with his new loving family in the house. He really likes soft blankets.
