Story
To adopt please fill out an adoption Application  Calm, low energy, low maintenance. Katy is a 5yo female Australian Cattle Dog mix who was rescued running down the highway in rural TN summer 2024. Her rescuers were an older couple who took Katy home and made her part of the family which includes 3 other dogs. Not cat tested. Okay with older dog savvy kids. Good house manners. Housebroken but never crated because she doesn’t need to be. Obeys basic commands.  Loves to be with her people.  Initially, Katy tested positive for heartworms but she was treated without complications and cured. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 50 pounds. Here’s some info from Katy’s rescuer/owner:   We found Katy near a busy intersection 10 months ago and decided to keep her but we have 3 high energy dogs and our female recently started picking on Katy. For Katy's sake, we think she is better suited in a much lower energy environment. She’s rather uninterested and indifferent when it comes to other dogs and is happy with her place in the pack. She is fine to co-exist with other dogs, but does not seem to want to engage in play that much. So, she would not be an ideal candidate for an adopter who specifically wants an active playmate for their first dog.  Katy wants a calm environment. If she sees other dogs play fighting, she becomes a “hall monitor” and tries to stop them. If a dog runs past her, she’ll sometimes try to grab them, not in an aggressive way, but just to calm them down like a hall monitor would. (That’s the cattle dog in her!). We let Katy spend the night with a friend who has a dog. Everything was fine until the dog next door came over to play and out came the hall monitor. Katy is a sweet, happy, respectful, and low energy dog. She likes giving and receiving affection, but it’s best to invite her to come to you for affection instead of going in for a big hug. If you get down on her level, she’ll come to you. She doesn’t like sudden, unexpected intrusions into her space. She prefers being pet instead of hugs. Her ideal adopter would be an adult couple or single that wants a happy walking buddy or just a sweet companion. A calm, low energy environment. No small children but she would be fine with older dog savvy kids. No other dogs or maximum one low energy dog. Story
sweet young girlThis listing is not affiliated with Desoto Animal Rescue Society. Please contact: esfranks429@gmail.com Meet Lucy – A Sweet & Smart Blue Heeler Looking for Her Forever Home My wife and I rescued Lucy, a beautiful 2-year-old female Blue Heeler, on February 25th in Sarah, MS. We are located in Hernando, MS (near Memphis, TN) and are looking for the perfect home where she can thrive. Lucy is incredibly sweet, well-behaved, and potty trained. She is very smart, already responding to her name, but she could easily learn a new one. She loves attention and human companionship. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, Lucy and our resident dogs are not getting along due to personality and temperament clashes. Because of this, we feel it is best to find her a loving home where she can be happy and comfortable. Health & Vet Care: Lucy was seen by our vet on February 26th, where she received:&#226&#156&#133 Annual vaccines (including Bordetella)&#226&#156&#133 Heartworm test (positive) – She has started Doxycycline (30-day course) and received a ProHeart6 injection for heartworm prevention.&#226&#156&#133 Roundworm treatment&#226&#156&#133 Ehrlichia (tick disease) treatment started&#226&#156&#133 Spayed (confirmed by vet)&#226&#156&#133 Started on Credelio for flea & tick prevention No microchip What Lucy Needs in a Home: A loving and committed owner who will continue her vet care and heartworm treatment. A home without other dogs (or with a slow and experienced introduction process). A fenced yard or regular exercise – she is a Blue Heeler and would thrive with mental and physical stimulation. Someone who will give her love and stability – she deserves it! Rehoming Process: We are committed to finding the right home for Lucy. We will: Evaluate potential adopters to ensure she goes to a responsible, loving home. Assist with transport within reason. Ask for a small adoption fee to ensure she goes to a serious, committed adopter (or we can discuss a donation to a rescue organization). Lucy is such a wonderful dog, and we truly wish we could have kept her. She deserves a home where she can be the center of attention and feel safe and loved. If you are interested in adopting Lucy or know someone who might be, please reach out! March 6, 2025, 1:22 pm
