Story
Scarlett is a 3 year old Australian Cattle Dog that needs a family to love. She is gentle with children, loves to be petted, and wants to follow her people wherever they go. She is crate trained and leash trained. She requires a fenced yard. We bought Scarlett for our breeding program and have since decided to retire the program. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines. She deserves more time and affection than we are able to give her.

Story
Casey was born on a farm in Indiana. We adopted her as a very small puppy in October 2017. She developed hypothyroidism and anxiety over the years. Her eye sight isn’t great. She’s very smart, loves playing fetch, very obedient, house broken, sheds very little but “blows” her coat once a year. Loves to snuggle and lay at your feet. Couch potato inside but loves playing outside! Knows words like “where’s your ball”, knows sit, shake, roll, stay, etc. But she has anxiety (now on Prozac) and is a bit jumpy at unknown sounds like knock at the door (getting batter now on meds). She has great recall and doesn’t run off. Recently, she attacked our other dog at a boarder (been to the same place 100x before, but new owners), they said it was about food. We honestly didn’t believe them and thought it was another dog and they were avoiding legal action. But then she did it again at home in front of us. We’ve kept the dogs apart. But today she went after our 9 month old baby who was crawling.

Story
This beautiful, playful girl is about 9 months old as of November, 2024 and she has been with us since June of 2024. She is an active, playful gal that loves people of all sizes. She is submissive with other dogs but loves to play with them if they are game. She has been around large and small dogs with no issues. When they growl or snap at her, she goes into submissive mode with little behind wagging. We think she would do well with any type of active family and one with children. We don't know about cats as we don't have cats to test with here at the rescue.  And she loves toys! She loves to pick her own toys out of the box. She is almost leash trained but will need house training as she is a puppy and would do best with a family with a fenced yard for her to play in. She is current on medical, flea and heartworm prevention. If you are interested in visiting or adopting, please submit an application at RichardsonRescue.org.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 22, 2024, 4:36 pm

Story
Meet sweet Poppy! Poppy was found in a field with her siblings, on the verge of dying. Dehydrated, emaciated, full of parasites. Thankfully a good Samaritan got them all rounded up and called us. All were a bit shy at first but have come out of their shell and are nothing short of adorable. Cattle dog/shep mix, going to be medium size dogs we think. Born in April of this year and currently around 15 pounds. RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. ( we are in Cleveland County NC) Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home.
