Adoption Donation   $ 299 Located:  RI Age: 4.5 years old Weight: 56 pounds  Meet Finn!   Finn is a striking 4.5 year old black and white Australian cattle/terrier mix and is looking for a family who tend to be home bodies. Finn would rather stay at home and play in his own house/yard than prowl the town!   He loves to play and heard his toys, especially his ball! He would love to chase it around your fenced-in yard.  You do not have to worry about him alone at home. He is very smart and knows all basic commands.   FINN would do best with a positive minded adult home only.  After working with our trainer at Jenn Reynolds Training Tails Finn is building his confidence level back up due to an off leash dog attacking him.    Sunday football, baseball, basketball games on the couch is his fav!!!  Sunday driving and long walks on the cape or ferry rides to the Block not so much.  He prefers the end of the recliner.   Please reach out to me if you are interested in getting more information or to set up a meet and greet with Finn. ALL animals are in foster homes as we do NOT have a  shelter where you can visit. Some animals are in foster care in New England, and some are located in other states. If the initials following the animals name are a state, then that is the state where the animal is located. If initials are not a state, then those are the initials of the foster home outside of New England and you will not be able to meet the animal ahead of time. Complete our online application You will be contacted by phone or email by the foster parent  or a member of our adoption team and will have the opportunity to find out more about the animal, and ask any questions that you have to ensure the animal is a good fit for your household. If the animal is local, you can meet the animal, but you would not be able to take the dog home until you are approved to adopt.  From our end, we will check references and schedule a home visit.  If you live in an apartment, or a condo, we will need to verify permission to own the animal from your landlord or condo board. Please let your vet’s office and references know we will be contacting them. If your  references are positive, we will schedule a home visit by a volunteer. Please try to accommodate the home visit volunteer as most  have busy schedules. Delays in the visit will result in a delay in the adoption. Once you are approved, you will receive an e-mail with your  adoption contract attached. This e-mail will have details about pick up, the balance of the adoption fee that is owed, etc. Please email your signed & witnessed contract and pay your adoption fee in full, and for any animals located out of state, you will be contacted for details about transport to New England. Once you have paid your adoption fee in full and sent back your contract, you can make arrangement to pick up your animal from the foster home or from transport depending on where the animal is located. Please bring a harness, collar, ID tag and leash when you are picking up the dog unless otherwise instructed by the foster parent. Our extensive approval process is intended to ensure the best fit between our animals and adopters. Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) reserves the right to deny any adoption application with or without disclosure of cause. Your adoption fee helps to cover the cost of all age appropriate vetting and transportation. FOHARI.ORG makes no explicit or implicit guarantees in reference to the health, temperament and/or the breed of the animal. The animal is adopted ‘as is’, and the adopter assumes all responsibility for treatment of any and all existing conditions or any other conditions of physical or temperament changes that may occur. Meet Mila Mae, a young, sweet soul whose gentleness will warm your heart.  Mila is a sweet girl and is completely deaf.  She is nervous in new situations and with new people.  She is looking for a quiet patient home who does not have a lot of social expectations for her.  This girl is an introvert and would prefer to spend her days at home with her people rather than going to the brewery.  She can enjoy the company of another dog with slow introductions.  She is a smart girl that is crate trained, house trained, and walks pretty good on the leash.  She enjoys a short walk and some play time then is happy to retire to the couch or a comfy bed.  A true couch potato, but loves to play with her toys or with a ball.  A potential adopter will need to be committed to work with a professional trainer to teach Mila hand commands and recall (aka doggie sign language).  She already knows hand signals for sit and come!  An adopter should have the time, energy, and resources to help Mila settle into a routine. The first 6-12 months will be work but will pay off with sweet and loving companion. Her foster mom thinks she would learn quickly. Mila Mae is looking for a loving family to share her life with. He is gentle and affectionate but can be a little shy in new situations outside of the home environment, but has been making great strides.  He is very affectionatte and loves to cuddle. He is your typical energetic puppy when at home and loves to play with toys or with his human.  He is good with both cats and dogs.  He would be fine living as an only dog with regular playdates with other dogs. He would do best with a fenced in yard given that he can be nervous on leash walks but this is improving.     He has been great with house training and does well in the crate when left alone and has been left for up to four hours.  Pym would thrive with someone who can help build his confidence and provide plenty of positive reinforcement.  If you’re ready to give Pym the encouragement and love he needs, you’ll be rewarded with a bond that will last a lifetime.”   Pym's back story is that he and his siblings were found under a house and were rescued by our Southern partner.  They were known as the New Moon litter.  They were in foster care together until they traveled to Rhode Island, and all found loving homes. Straight from Gilligan's Island (by way of Arkansas) meet Ginger! This glamorous 4 ½ year-old girl appears to be a Texas Heller mix. She is a delightful adult dog with a heart full of love. Her personality is as sweet as her name suggests, and she carries a gentle demeanor that instantly endears her to everyone she meets. She's not just sweet and gentle, though. Ginger is also smart and playful, her intelligence shines through in her quick learning and eagerness to please. She is house trained, crate trained and walks pretty good on the leash and would love to join you on a walk so she can get more practice and exercise, as she needs to lose a little weight. Ginger is a moderately active dog who would love a fenced-in yard to play in but would be fine with regular walks and time to run and play in a secure area. We recommend that you and Ginger sign up for some dog training classes together. Medical Note:  This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease.  Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future.  Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete.  Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home.  This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment and is expected to complete treatment with no complications.  Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog.  Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. The rest of the litter she was born with were given away. Lulu got to stay on the family farm for a bit with the farm animals, adults, cats and kids and got along with all. Lulu got to spend a lot of time playing with the children.  Lulu is a playful active gal who has puppy energy but also responds well to correction and loves to chill for some cuddle time. Being that she is still young, she is working on her house manners and house training, but she does love a car ride! Meet Cookie, a spirited senior dog with a zest for life! Despite being about 8 years old, Cookie plays like a puppy and has a boundless love for the outdoors. She enjoys playing with balls, chasing squirrels, and has a special talent for playing soccer all by herself. Cookie was found as a stray in Little Rock, AR, and a kind Samaritan brought her to our rescue group, ArkanPaws. She has been living on our rescue farm for over a year now, and we're eager to find her the forever home she deserves. Cookie is independent and prefers solo play over interacting with other dogs. She has a very high prey drive, so she needs to be in a cat-free household. With her impressive mousing skills, Cookie would make a great addition to a farm, helping keep the rodent population in check.
