Story
Thank you for your interest in one of our amazing dogs, please how our meet and greets work. We are by appointment only, all our meet and greets are outside on the same property as the shelter, under our covered, fenced area, so we must schedule appointments. If a dog is on our website, it is available for adoption. We do not schedule multiple meetings with different people for the dog on the same day. We do meet and greets Tuesday-Saturday, no night meets. We have questions at the bottom of each dog’s bio, by answering the questions in your inquiry, you help move things along, it is okay if you do not, we will send an e-mail back to you with those questions. It does not matter if you are a homeowner or renter, but please check with your rental company for breed and weight restrictions. If this will be an ESA dog, get approval from your rental company first. Our dogs are listed on Petfinder (purchased by Purina), Adopt-a-pet and rescueme.org or you can e-mail us directly at shelter@hbpets.org with questions about the dog, please be sure to say who you are asking about. Lastly, we do review all applicants, so if you are looking to get a dog today or in the next 24 hours, we may not be the right place, by taking a little more time and reviewing we have decreased our yearly dog returns to 1%. We get back to everyone as quickly as possible, sending multiple inquires or calling multiple times, will not change the process, if you don’t get a reply e-mail within 72hrs, check your spam and junk folder, if there is nothing please e-mail us directly at shelter@hbpets.org. Meet Spike, he is between 14mths to 18mths old, neutered male, Cattle dog mix. Spike came in a a stray, so we don't have previous history. What we do know, he is a incredibly smart, learns routines quickly, loving, affectionate, active, so far he loves every human and every dog. He would love an active household, he would make a great running or hiking buddy. My adoption fee is $250. This includes neuter, vaccines, microchip, dewormer, flea treatment, tested for Heartworm/Tick and a 1lb bag of food. 1. Do you own or rent? 2. Do you have a private fenced yard? 3. Do you go hiking, jogging or do physical activities that he can be a part of? 4. How many people and age groups live in your home? 5. How many animals, types and what they are like! 6. Do you have time to continue basic training? 7. How many hours a day will he be alone? 8. What City do you reside in? 9. Please tell us more about how he would spend his days and what activities you would plan!

Story
Meet Aspen! Aspen is a very sweet guy who loves attention! He has been good with kids, good with other dogs, loves to snuggle with dogs and cats alike. Aspen's best good friend is his foster fur brother, they are best pals and even nap together sometimes. Aspen loves to run and play, and is extremely food motivated. While Aspen does well with cats he does sometimes chase after cats that run. He's not out to eat the cat, he just thinks chasing is a fun game. Aspen loves giving big kisses right on your face and will mischievously steal your shoe or socks give the opportunity, he just doesn't want you to foster he's thinking of you. Aspen has a bit of anxiety and can be vocal when expressing his discomfort or displeasure. While Aspen is crate trained when he's home alone and anxious he can be quite the escape artist. Aspen isn't a fan of the rain, so will need some encouragement to learn to be a proper Oregonian (or Washingtonian as the case may be). With good leadership and training, we are sure he would be a great family dog or a work buddy.

Story
Stormi 💜 4 yr old female cattle dog/shepard mix. She’s so smart and alert and ready for a job to do. She loves laying by the fire or at your feet. She will sit and wait for you to give her the command to “eat” before she touches her food. Needs someone who can be home with her and take her on walks, or an active person who can take her on adventures. She’s been with a pack of 3 male GSD for these past 3 years and owner has to rehome all of them. Stormi can get very competitive when playing fetch with other dogs if they get to the ball first. This is why she may do better as a single dog, but then again, it could be too much energy in her current pack of dogs. But has lived with dogs all her life. She is very uncertain about new people and needs time to warm up. Needs a secured fenced/ yard ! No cat history. Older kids ok. If you can give her her perfect home please apply online at www.hopeshavenfriends.org

Story
Vivienne is a friendly flirty girl who loves dog friends. She is learning about the world and sometimes gets nervous when she encounters new things. She’s looking for a companion who will take the time with her to show her all the things the world has to offer. Her confidence has grown since she came to POOCH and she no longer feels shy about walking in and out of doors. She found her love for sprinklers and splashing in pools at POOCH. Vivienne LOVES the water. She can lounge in the hot sun for hours and then wear herself out throwing toys in the air and zooming in the yard. She is very interested in other dogs and sometimes uses her big girl voice to let passing dogs know they forgot to come say “hello” to her. The youth have been teaching her some manners with passing dogs and she’s made lots of progress. This training will need to continue as needs guidance from her person to continue to teach her what is expected when she has these big feelings. She has made lots of doggy friends during her stay at POOCH. She needs a slower introduction as she is still learning her doggy manners. Vivienne is a herding breed and has the natural tendencies to chase things that move fast. She has not been cat or small animal tested. It’s not recommended to place her in a home with cats due to what we know about herding breeds. Characteristics: Love water—pools, sprinklers—you name it, she likes it! Enjoys a good snuggle Walks well on leash Can relax/chill on her own Enjoys playing THINGS TO BE AWARE OF Can be a little shy at first Can be reactive (vocal) with some other dogs. DETAILS Breed: Heeler Sex: Spayed Female Size: 50 lbs Age: Appx. 1.5 year Special Considerations: Would benefit from continued training. Not recommended for placement in a home with cats or other small animals. Needs: A single-family home with a yard, or a townhome with a sizable enough yard that she can go potty outside without having to go on a walk as she decompresses and adjusts to her new home; not recommended for an apartment.

My friends think I would be the best addition to your home! High Energy: I can become easily frustrated if my energy and exercise needs are not met. Story
Sparky - Just over a year old heeler/bull nose terrier mix Left behind at a homeless encampment in Salem and was luckily watched over by nearby campers until his rescue. After serving his stray hold he was pulled into rescue and was neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. He is a very energetic young pup who is learning how to be a family dog. He is good with some dogs as long as they can tolerate his high energy. He is friendly with cats but wants to chase them when they run off, probably best with a cat savvy home or no cats. He loves going for car rides but is working on his leash manners. Sparky is at the perfect age to help shape him into an amazing, well behaved pup
