Story
Diesel is a 5 year old blue heeler He was born September of 2019 I rescued diesel at 4 months from a gentleman. Diesel has been my person. He had been my rock and been my best friend for the longest time. However., my life has been flipped upside down. I sadly do not have the time, funds or resources to give diesel the love and attention he deserves. Diesel anxiety has gone through the roof the last 4 months. He needs more one and one care with more time outdoors and someone who can be there when he needs. It breaks my heart to have to give diesel away. But it breaks my heart more to know that I’m not helping him the way he needs

Story
Thank you for your interest in one of our amazing dogs, please how our meet and greets work. We are by appointment only, all our meet and greets are outside on the same property as the shelter, under our covered, fenced area, so we must schedule appointments. If a dog is on our website, it is available for adoption. We do not schedule multiple meetings with different people for the dog on the same day. We do meet and greets Tuesday-Saturday, no night meets. We have questions at the bottom of each dog’s bio, by answering the questions in your inquiry, you help move things along, it is okay if you do not, we will send an e-mail back to you with those questions. It does not matter if you are a homeowner or renter, but please check with your rental company for breed and weight restrictions. If this will be an ESA dog, get approval from your rental company first. Our dogs are listed on Petfinder (purchased by Purina), Adopt-a-pet and rescueme.org or you can e-mail us directly at shelter@hbpets.org with questions about the dog, please be sure to say who you are asking about. Lastly, we do review all applicants, so if you are looking to get a dog today or in the next 24 hours, we may not be the right place, by taking a little more time and reviewing we have decreased our yearly dog returns to 1%. We get back to everyone as quickly as possible, sending multiple inquires or calling multiple times, will not change the process, if you don’t get a reply e-mail within 72hrs, check your spam and junk folder, if there is nothing please e-mail us directly at shelter@hbpets.org. Meet Spike, he is between 14mths to 18mths old, neutered male, Cattle dog mix. Spike came in a a stray, so we don't have previous history. What we do know, he is a incredibly smart, learns routines quickly, loving, affectionate, active, so far he loves every human and every dog. He would love an active household, he would make a great running or hiking buddy. My adoption fee is $250. This includes neuter, vaccines, microchip, dewormer, flea treatment, tested for Heartworm/Tick and a 1lb bag of food. 1. Do you own or rent? 2. Do you have a private fenced yard? 3. Do you go hiking, jogging or do physical activities that he can be a part of? 4. How many people and age groups live in your home? 5. How many animals, types and what they are like! 6. Do you have time to continue basic training? 7. How many hours a day will he be alone? 8. What City do you reside in? 9. Please tell us more about how he would spend his days and what activities you would plan!

Story
Stormi 💜 4 yr old female cattle dog/shepard mix. She’s so smart and alert and ready for a job to do. She loves laying by the fire or at your feet. She will sit and wait for you to give her the command to “eat” before she touches her food. Needs someone who can be home with her and take her on walks, or an active person who can take her on adventures. She’s been with a pack of 3 male GSD for these past 3 years and owner has to rehome all of them. Stormi can get very competitive when playing fetch with other dogs if they get to the ball first. This is why she may do better as a single dog, but then again, it could be too much energy in her current pack of dogs. But has lived with dogs all her life. She is very uncertain about new people and needs time to warm up. Needs a secured fenced/ yard ! No cat history. Older kids ok. If you can give her her perfect home please apply online at www.hopeshavenfriends.org

Story
Hi! I’m BJ and I’m quite handsome if I do say so myself. People marvel at my cute face and dumbo like ears, even commenting from afar! They are always surprised to find out I’m 10 years old because I have so much energy. I’m very popular at the dog park where I go every morning. I’m cordial with both the dogs and their parents and run to greet all the new entrants. I have a foster cat brother who I get along with quite well although he finds me irritating at times. Basically, I’m just one happy guy. Because I have so much energy, a big back yard would be great, and I’ll go on as many walks as you’re willing to take me on. I love life and I love everyone! Because I’m part heeler, I’ll stay right with you, following you almost everywhere. So be careful when you turn around because you might trip over me. And I’m nosey; I want to know everything that goes on and be involved if possible. I am also anxious which is not uncommon for herding dogs. If you keep me busy, I am happier. When you head out the door without me, I’ll probably bark and whine because I don’t want you to leave! But I’ll settle down in time. My foster mom leaves me alone for several hours at a time. Despite all my energy, I sleep really well at night. If you let me, I’ll snuggle up right next to you and conk out. Even though I get along great at the dog park, I have expressed some leash reactivity. Because of my complicated resume, my SDRO advisers think I’ll do best in a home which is quiet and with no other dogs. I am such a great companion and friend but let’s keep it simple, ok? I do bark, but only when I hear or see something. I know some basic commands such as sit, lie down and shake and I’ll come when you call almost all of the time. When I had my blood panel done, we discovered that I have Lyme Disease. But the Vet says that this is not a huge deal. There are some dogs who have the “active” form and others, like me, who have the “chronic” form. This form does not typically cause any health problems. The Vet recommends that I have a blood panel and urinalysis once/year just to make sure I’m ok. He said I have probably had it since I was a puppy and might be a carrier for the rest of my days. An article on veterinarypartner.vin.com says that 95% of infected dogs will never develop any symptoms. This mirrors what my Vet said. I also had a Librela shot recently because my foster mom noticed that I don’t like stairs. Although I was in pretty good shape before, now I’m in even better shape. Nothing slows me down and I’m walking between 5 and 10 miles a day. I absolutely love it when people come to visit and I get really excited. It takes a while for me to settle down but I eventually do. I’m very playful and I’ll bring my ball and toys and plop them right down on whoever’s lap is handy. And here’s a plus – I hardly shed at all! We’ve been working on car rides which make me anxious. Actually, they make me VERY anxious. If I’m to go very far I take some trazadone to keep me calm. Interestingly enough, my previous dad took me to get coffee frequently and said I did just fine so this behavior is a bit of a mystery. Do you think you can find room in your life for an energetic fellow like me? I promise I’ll love you and be your best friend! Love, BJ

Story
This sweet, attention loving girl is looking for a new home. Daisy is a 6 year old heeler mix. She is trained to sit, stay and lay down and also kennel trained. She loves going on car rides and will happily follow her owner anywhere. She walks very politely on a leash. Daisy loves tummy rubs and will sit on her butt and lean her back against you for pets and love in the cutest way. Daisy likes to spend her day relaxing or following her owner around. Daisy used to be a service dog- she is very smart and loves training and is highly food motivated. Daisy cannot be in a home with other dogs or children, she has a history of biting and needs a home and owner who is able to help her with overcoming her anxiety. Her vet suggests her new owner to try out Prozac to help her manage her anxiety.

In a world of fur and joy, there's a Heeler named Brownie, oh so coy, With fur as red as autumn leaves, he's the cleverest of canine thieves. At two, he's full of boundless glee, a furry friend for you and me. Smart as a whip, this Heeler boy, his heart's a treasure, a boundless joy.
