Story
Hi! My name is Newt! I'm a super chill, friendly, outgoing and fun 52 pound cattle dog mix! I like dogs, cats, kids and adult people too. I'm pretty much the perfect pup.  I'm house trained and I'm seriously a really cool dog!  I like walks, hikes, and cuddles and I love to play with my toys. Seriously, I'm just the easiest of dogs.  The one thing I could use is a bit of leash training 'cause when I see another dog, I get excited and want to go say hi!  But its just that I am darn happy and friendly! I also like to go to the pet store and pick out my favorite toys. And I love everyone at the vet too!  I'd be an amazing family dog and I can't wait to meet you! Underdogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Adoption fee is $325. Newt is being foster in the Portland area. You MUST have an Underdogs Rock Rescue application on file to request a meet with an Underdog. An online Underdogs Rock adoption application can only be accessed at  https://underdogsrock.org/adopt-a-dog  . You must be available to meet an Underdog in their foster's location and dogs are not held for applicants or shipped outside of the Portland metro area. Home checks are also part of the process and will be conducted virtually. As big as he is, he is extremely respectful of personal space. He loves the couch and the bed but will only jump up when invited to do so! And when he does, let us tell you, it’s magical. This boy can snuggle like no other🥰 Watch his video and you'll find yourself clinking on that adoption application below: https://youtu.be/c7yTsYN_5Oc?si=XPv2sM5WpqO-Hq8x Freckles has become a rescue favorite. His ability to gently take every treat and listen to each command is unmatched. Freckles is so smart and can pick up on any command quicker than you can snap your fingers! He currently knows sit, stay, come and shake. He loves to show off his party tricks! He is wonderful on a leash and has amazing manners. Right out of the house or car, he can pull so he will need someone who can handle a stronger dog. He is great in his kennel but would much rather be out and about with you! Not to mention, Freckles is house trained to perfection!🐾 He is a very friendly boy but would prefer a home with no cats please! Freckles dream home would be somewhere over yonder on a farm. He would love all the free space to stretch his legs! He is a country boy at heart. He is great at socializing and his companionship level is set at 10! He is great with people, men and woman, and children. Get ready for his love and lean! When he comes to you for kisses or scratches, he will lean his whole body into your legs like he’s melting into you. Love is his favorite thing in the world! Freckles is an all around gentlemen. We travel to WA, UT, OR, ID, VA, PA, OH, NY, CT, VT and Canada (Canadian adopters will need to pick up in Bellingham, WA  or Brattleboro, VT for the eastern Canadian border)! You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey! You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience!  The adoption fee is $825 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectible, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship!  We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.  Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Let me introduce you to Greyson, best described as easy-like-Sunday-morning company and a true gentleman. He has all the makings of a loyal friend for life and it is my pleasure to introduce you to him. Meeting him it would be easy to think he is shy, likely because his looks usually go along with a much more excitable personality but he was a refreshing reminder that even in dogs, you cant judge them based on their cover. Shy is not the best way to describe him, he is calm, assured, and steady. Unbothered but fully present, ready for a shared moment or a solo-sit in the sun. He is a true companion dog, content at your side and appreciative of everything, especially the small stuff like snuggles and treats. Watch his Get-To-Know Greyson video here then come back to read more https://youtu.be/pWmiX2uy0ZU In rescue breed and age are offered as educated guesses given we do not know a dogs history but we believe Greyson is about 2 years old and is possibly a Cattle dog/Shepherd mix and he weighs 50 lbs. The perfect size for hopping in and out of the car while being able to see out of the window with no trouble at all. If car-trips are not your thing, that is a-ok with him, putzing around is a favorite past-time of his. However you spend your time, he will be happy to there. He isn’t going to demand attention but he will quietly check-in for some affection and follow along for a bit, before finding a cozy spot nearby to lay down. He responds positively to a connection and comforting presence without needing constant reinforcement or praise. Basically, Greyson will be happy to keep you company without getting in the way. Greyson currently lives with dogs in his foster home and he has shown he has a type- enjoying calm but playful female who can enjoy his companionship without needing a constant playmate, though, he could happily be your one-and-only. Although he did not show us any of the qualities we typically see in Cattle dog mixes, having space for play and/or an outlet for energy will be invaluable simply given his age. Whether that is regular hikes, walks or having him join you on runs, he is built for it even if he doesn’t show it. Greyson’s dream home? He would love a home with a yard for exploring but what he really wants is someone who can understand that love takes a little time to build and is happy to give him that time. He has a quiet nature, with his foster sharing that he is both house and crate-trained, and though he may protest the slightest bit for a few minutes in the crate, he settles with no trouble. Wherever he calls home, he is going to show you a depth of rescue-dog love with his sweet, loving, loyal and attentive presence. It feels amazing to be on the receiving end of something so true. If he sounds like your boy, apply today! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/67a1404a71e0de437904708b Questions? Story
Meet Monty, Monty Moo Cow! This super cutie has a soft and snuggly thick coat, great house manners and the sweetest habit of holding his toys with his paws while he nibbles on them. He’s a happy-go-lucky lover boy with an affinity for smooching! We think Monty is an Australian Cattle Dog, Labrador mix. He is a rescue, so these are just our best guesses! We estimate his age to be just over a year old, and he currently weighs in around 60 pounds. Fall in love with Monty here: https://youtu.be/T4h7I8O-E2Q?feature=shared Monty is currently fostered in a loving home with two big pitties and two tiny chihuahuas. Small dog friendly! He does well with everyone in the house- playful with the younger playful pups, and respectful with the older, slower dogs. Here at the rescue, he did wonderfully with the other dogs she met. He was a good sport with our playful big dogs, playful, forgiving and sweet. In his forever home, we think Monty would be happiest with a medium to low energy tolerant dog that will play at times, but respect Monty’s medium energy. He settles well after playtime, and plays in short bursts before settling. His foster mom describes him as calm, a very good boy, and a fast learner. Here at the rescue we saw a huge improvement in his leash skills in just a few moments of work- he really is such a fast learner. Monty is treat motivated too, and a gentle treat-taker. Monty is really sweet the moment you meet him. He can be a little unsure and shy at first, but soft voices and a few treats warm him up quickly. He loves to snuggle his foster mom, and even sat in our laps here at the rescue. Such a sweet boy! Monty is a total toy lover too! It’s impossibly cute to watch, he likes to hold his toy in his paws and chew, or chase the toy as you toss it. Knowing Monty’s gentle and sweet personality, we think he would enjoy residential or suburban life more than city life. He could live with other dogs, but we don’t recommend him for a home with kitties. We think he could do well as a family dog with kids over ten years old! We are willing to test Monty with anything you need us to in order to ensure he is the perfect match for you! We can make most anything happen! Just let us know. Story
Blue is a smart, loyal and loving dog. He is well trained and a great adventure companion. He loves to hike, swim, walk, and go on camping trips. He loves to paddle board and join in on all the fun. Blue can be wary of strangers at first but he is easily won over with petting and treats. It is with deep sadness and difficulty that we have to rehome Blue due to inter dog conflict with our other dog. We tried our very best to make it work for many years with lots of professional training and management. Unfortunately it has become too much to handle with our first child on the way. It is not fair to blue to live under management and stress and the conflict between our dogs is unsafe. The best situation for blue is a home with no other dogs and no very young children.

Story
Maple is a 10 month old, Australian Cattle Dog mix. Shes sitting at 34 lbs. She is up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and spayed. Maple was found running loose in Forest Park. Her history before being found is unknown but she had no training. She was processed by MCAS but no owner came forward. Ideally, she goes home with someone experienced that knows her breed well and can meet her physical/mental needs. She picks up on training quickly but still has things to work on. Shes an active dog that loves to run in open spaces but wants a good cuddle at the end of the day. She is very playful and energetic but will nap hard. Loves a squeaky toy or playing tug and is learning fetch. Inside the house she has not shown any signs of destructiveness. She’s crate trained but it’s not her favourite place to be for long hours. I don’t recommend her to be placed with smaller dogs/cats because she’s a herding breed. Everyone who has met Maple will tell you she’s a sweet girl.
