Story
HI - I'M PENNY! I'm a sweet and shy 1-year-old-old Australian Cattle Dog mix, in need of a foster or forever home. I was rescued from a California shelter on my last day and now am safe! The experience was a scary one for me, but I'm finally now coming out of my shell. I will make a great companion for an active single person, a couple or a family with older kids. I weigh only 45-50 lbs. Please email for an application.

Story
Vivienne is a friendly flirty girl who loves dog friends. She is learning about the world and sometimes gets nervous when she encounters new things. She’s looking for a companion who will take the time with her to show her all the things the world has to offer. Her confidence has grown since she came to POOCH and she no longer feels shy about walking in and out of doors. She found her love for sprinklers and splashing in pools at POOCH. Vivienne LOVES the water. She can lounge in the hot sun for hours and then wear herself out throwing toys in the air and zooming in the yard. She is very interested in other dogs and sometimes uses her big girl voice to let passing dogs know they forgot to come say “hello” to her. The youth have been teaching her some manners with passing dogs and she’s made lots of progress. This training will need to continue as needs guidance from her person to continue to teach her what is expected when she has these big feelings. She has made lots of doggy friends during her stay at POOCH. She needs a slower introduction as she is still learning her doggy manners. Vivienne is a herding breed and has the natural tendencies to chase things that move fast. She has not been cat or small animal tested. It’s not recommended to place her in a home with cats due to what we know about herding breeds. Characteristics: Love water—pools, sprinklers—you name it, she likes it! Enjoys a good snuggle Walks well on leash Can relax/chill on her own Enjoys playing THINGS TO BE AWARE OF Can be a little shy at first Can be reactive (vocal) with some other dogs. DETAILS Breed: Heeler Sex: Spayed Female Size: 50 lbs Age: Appx. 1.5 year Special Considerations: Would benefit from continued training. Not recommended for placement in a home with cats or other small animals. Needs: A single-family home with a yard, or a townhome with a sizable enough yard that she can go potty outside without having to go on a walk as she decompresses and adjusts to her new home; not recommended for an apartment.

This is Chunk! Chunk is young and still rather timid, due to under-socialization at his former home. However, once his confidence is built, he's got the makings of a FANTASTIC dog! Very intelligent, and very charismatic. (NOTE: Chunk is located in Pendleton, Oregon, but we transport to Portland and surrounding areas frequently!)

Story
Who needs a box full of chocolates when you can have a heart full of Freckles?💝 Meet Freckles, the husky/Australian cattle dog mix estimated to be about 4 years old! This is our best estimated guess as we don’t know his family tree. Freckles is currently weighing in at about 82lbs but don’t let that run you off! As big as he is, he is extremely respectful of personal space. He loves the couch and the bed but will only jump up when invited to do so! And when he does, let us tell you, it’s magical. This boy can snuggle like no other🥰 Watch his video and you'll find yourself clinking on that adoption application below: https://youtu.be/c7yTsYN_5Oc?si=XPv2sM5WpqO-Hq8x Freckles has become a rescue favorite. The staff and volunteers constantly gush over how PERFECT he is!🤩 He will melt your heart. Freckles enjoys dogs and people but most of all, he loves to be outdoors! He would make an incredible adventure companion as he will quite literally stop and smell the roses. Freckles loves walking, hiking, enjoys water, really anything you love to do. He is so go with the flow. He is amazing in the car and is always down for a ride! Errands, food, shopping- you name it, he’s there for it. Sometimes he will try to sit right up front with you on the center console, so make sure to get him a seatbelt! Freckles is very food motivated. His ability to gently take every treat and listen to each command is unmatched. Freckles is so smart and can pick up on any command quicker than you can snap your fingers! He currently knows sit, stay, come and shake. He loves to show off his party tricks! He is wonderful on a leash and has amazing manners. Right out of the house or car, he can pull so he will need someone who can handle a stronger dog. He is great in his kennel but would much rather be out and about with you! Not to mention, Freckles is house trained to perfection!🐾 He is a very friendly boy but would prefer a home with no cats please! Freckles dream home would be somewhere over yonder on a farm. He would love all the free space to stretch his legs! He is a country boy at heart. He is great at socializing and his companionship level is set at 10! He is great with people, men and woman, and children. Get ready for his love and lean! When he comes to you for kisses or scratches, he will lean his whole body into your legs like he’s melting into you. Love is his favorite thing in the world! Freckles is an all around gentlemen. He has a striking appearance that’s bound to get compliments everywhere you go. His personality is top tier and his love is unmatched. Apply today for this one of a kind boy or you might regret it!❤️ https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/65f08d5278df96ffb0076209 Questions? You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey! You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience!  The adoption fee is $825 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectible, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship!  We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.  Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
