Story
Hello! My name is Gus!I`m a sweet, cuddly boy once I warm up to new people. It does take me a little bit to feel cozy with someone new. I am super smart and love to learn. A family that likes to do training and teach tricks would be in heaven with me! I am sensitive and would benefit from humans who are good at recognizing my signs of stress and helping make situations less stressful for me. MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…CHILDREN: Teenagers might be ok, no young children given I can be nervous and am a sensitive boy.OTHER DOGS: Potentially, but I am picky with my dog friends so it would have to be a dog that has a lot of experience with other dogs and won’t get upset by my rude greeting.CATS: Potentially, with a cat experienced with dogs and an owner experienced with dog-cat intros.FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: No, I would do best with someone who has previous dog experience, ideally someone who has experience with sensitive or anxious dogs.FENCED-IN YARD: Highly recommended as I would love a safe space to run!HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: No apartment buildings as I can be nervous of people or dogs getting too close to me. SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: Not necessarily.SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium. HOUSE-TRAINED: Not quite, I will need training and patience with this. I was left for long hours in my last home and did pee in the house. I’m hoping with a committed family and frequent outings, I can get on track with house-training!If you think I could be a good match for your home, click the “Adopt Me” button to apply!

Story
Dexter / Male / Approx 2 years / 58 lbs / Australian Cattle Dog Mix / Good with Dogs / Good with Children / Good with Cats / Medium-Low Energy / From Tennessee / Fostered in Georgetown ** Follow Dexter's journey on Instagram: @gracies_fosters ** Meet Dexter! This handsome boy is full of joy and never-ending affection. His fosters describe him as happy, loving and gentle. Giving people hugs and kisses is one of his favourite things. He also loves to walk and cuddle up on the couch. Dexter wants to be part of whatever is happening with his humans whether it is walking, or lounging at home. Dexter is very affectionate, he likes to stick close to his trusted humans. He loves to give hugs and kisses and is so happy to greet you when you come home. True to his breed, Dexter is not always great at first impressions. He may occasionally take time to warm up, take it slow, and have time to observe and sniff. Dexter has lived with children ages 7 -17 and treated them the same as the adults. To Dexter, his humans are the best and he loves to play and cuddle with them all. While in foster care, Dexter became very sick and received a diagnosis of megaesophagus. He is feeling much better now but his diagnosis comes with some long-term care. Megaesophagus means that Dexter’s body doesn’t push food into his stomach the way it should. He is currently stable on medication and a regime of 3 meals per day fed while he is in an elevated position. Small amounts of regurgitation can be common for dogs with this condition and their health should be monitored. The use of a Bailey Chair for feeding is the standard for dogs with this condition and Dexter is working on becoming comfortable sitting in it. Dexter’s ideal home would be with a loving family who is ready for endless kisses and has a willingness to commit to his healthcare. He is young and enjoys a daily walk with a few chances for potty breaks throughout the day. If given proper exercise he could do well in any living arrangement. Although brief, having access to parks and greenspace will help him get his zoomies out. As a young dog, he is medium to low energy. He currently has one walk per day, as well as time outside to potty. Dexter does great on a leash. He loves to explore the outdoors and take in all the smells. Dexter is also a fan of fetch, tug, puzzle toys and chew toys but his favourite activity of all is receiving pets and attention. Since arriving Dexter has been working hard on his training. He loves food and is very clever, so it makes him fun to teach. He has good house manners and can be trusted alone. Dexter is housetrained. His new family should be prepared to continue his training. Dexter currently lives with other dogs and loves their company. He spends his days with them taking walks, sharing toys and cuddling. A home with another dog would be great for Dexter, but if given opportunities to socialize he would be ok as a solo pet. He has also lived with a cat and does well, both usually just keeping to themselves. If you are looking for a fun-loving companion, Dexter is your guy. He has so much love to give and will brighten up your home. If you’re interested in adopting Dexter, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Dexter’s adoption fee is $250.
