Story
Archie is available for Foster to Adopt!! ***Please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form*** As a foster-to-adopt family, you will have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found. During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit. Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archie / Male / 7 years old / 78 lbs / Blue Heeler Mix / Loves Dogs / No Kids Please / Good Second Dog / Not Cat Tested / Local Surrender / Fostered in Toronto **Follow Archie's journey on Instagram at @archietheadoptable** Meet Archie! Archie is a sweet, goofy, and affectionate boy. He loves playing with squeaky toys, carrying his stuffed toys around the house and nibbling on pig ear treats. He is happy playing fetch or sniffing around any toys full of treats he can find. He’s an amazing work-from-home companion and will fall asleep at your feet during the day. You can count on him to show off his tricks and he will always let you know when he wants to play fetch! This boy is a real sweetheart and would make an amazing pet for the right family. Archie arrived in Canada as a puppy and lived with a loving family since he was a puppy. Unfortunately when his family added a baby to the household, Archie did not react well and became quite jealous. Archie was surrendered back to us and is currently in foster care looking for a new home without any young kids so he can soak up all the attention. Archie would love to be in a home in the suburbs with a fenced backyard so he can run around and play. He is fearful of unexpected sounds on walks, but with a patient and gentle approach he is learning to walk without pulling. While he builds his confidence, it would be great if he had a backyard to help him burn off some energy. He is medium energy and currently gets his exercise in the backyard or other fenced-in areas. Archie is a flight risk so it is important he is kept on a leash when outdoors or in a fenced-in area. Archie currently goes on 2 walks per day that last between 10 and 15 minutes and he does need some gentle guidance as he gets distracted about the idea of going home, getting into a car and will pull away from loud noises. Archie is very friendly with people he knows and is playful and cuddly. His current family always asks new guests to let Archie come to them when they enter the home and, though initially a little nervous, he soon goes over to make a new friend. Archie is comfortable around other dogs and behaves well when socializing off leash. He would do best with a canine companion in the home to show him the ropes. Archie is crate-trained and is comfortable being left alone during the day for up to five hours. He sleeps well throughout the night either in his crate with the door open or on another spot on the floor. He loves predictability and routine and is fearful of loud noises like thunder, fireworks, construction, and loud vehicles. Indoors, he knows commands like sit, come, lie down, head down, up, stand, spin, touch, speak, and even play dead - he is treat-motivated indoors and a quick learner! Outdoors, his nerves get the best of him and he is not as attentive and does not have great recall. He is looking for a family that will continue to work with him on this. Archie is potty trained. Archie has environmental allergies and takes medication for this, which is partially covered by pet insurance already in place. Adopters can convert this over to them once adopted and the average cost would be $57 a month. If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting Archie, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Archie’s adoption fee is $250.
