Frankincense is a sweet-as-can-be senior looking to retire into his forever home! He is house-trained and crate-trained and does well with other dogs. Frankincense enjoys snuggling and will follow his person around like a little shadow. We are considering this guy a medical special needs case, so if you're interested in potential adoption, please reach out to us so we can discuss his needs. If you have other animals in your home, we recommend bringing them in for a meet and greet before taking Frankincense home. Story
Jupiter is a cute 2-year old female Australian Cattle Dog/Red Heeler mix who was brought to the HSOV on December 16, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Everson Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Jupiter was wearing a bright orange collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog license tag on her collar ... And she was not microchipped. This little sweetheart has a white short smooth coat which is sprinkled with red ticking, a long tail, and an adorable face with red ticking/freckles, a liver-colored nose, and semi-erect ears. Jupiter's left eye is blue while her right eye is brown, which gives her such an endearing appearance. Jupiter has a friendly, rather demure, personality, and she is understandably a bit frightened being in an unfamiliar place with new people that she doesn't yet realize are her new best friends. HSOV Kennel Tech Mckayla spent time with Jupiter in the shelter lobby for preliminary photos on December 19th since the outside temperatures were in the freezing range late that afternoon .. Jupiter was in love with Mckayla and thoroughly attention (and 'good girl' treats) .. but she was puzzled by the paparazzi/photograph experience and couldn't figure out 'what the heck' that was all about. Jupiter weighs 44 lbs. She doesn't appear to have the luxury of learning to walk on a leash, but she is a smart little cookie who will quickly master that new skill. These photos of Jupiter admittedly not the most flattering of this cute girl, but we wanted to share them in hopes that her family is searching for her. We will take outdoor 'glamour shots' at the first opportunity if she is not reclaimed. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Jupiter will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. UPDATE: Jupiter went home with a foster family on June 12, 2024 who planned to adopt her after she was spayed. Though the family loved Jupiter, they decided she wasn't a good fit for their home since she was a bit too strong/pulled on a leash and she was selective about which dogs she would accept into her circle of friends. Jupiter came back to our shelter on August 2, 2024 and is looking for the perfect home.

Meet Jupiter (Photos 3/12/2024) Jupiter is a cute 2-year old female Australian Cattle Dog/Red Heeler mix who was brought to the HSOV on December 16, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Everson Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Jupiter's left eye is blue while her right eye is brown, which gives her such an endearing appearance. Jupiter has a friendly, rather demure, personality. For the first few weeks Jupiter was in our shelter, she was understandably a bit frightened being in an unfamiliar place with new people that she doesn't yet realize were her new best friends. We took preliminary photos of Jupiter on December 19th since the outside temperatures were in the freezing range late that afternoon.. Jupiter thoroughly attention (and 'good girl' treats) .. but she was puzzled by the paparazzi/photograph experience and couldn't figure out 'what the heck' that was all about (smile). Jupiter weighed 44 lbs when we first met her. She didn't appear to have the luxury of learning to walk on a leash, but she was a smart little cookie who quickly mastered that new skill thanks to our compassionate HSOV kennel techs and dedicated volunteers. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Jupiter was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this little sweetheart. These updated photos of Jupiter were taken on March 12, 2024 when she participated in our St Patrick's mini-photo publicity event, and she did her herself proud. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver and HSOV Volunteer Emma Dahlgren for spending time with Jupiter for these 'out of this world' glamour pictures. Jupiter was a pushover for 'good girl' treats and flashed her award-winning smile for the camera. UPDATE: Jupiter went home with a foster family on June 12, 2024 who planned to adopt her after she was spayed. Story
Sprocket is a handsome 2-1/2 year old male Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler who was surrendered by his owner on October 19, 2024. Sprocket may look familiar to many of our HSOV volunteers and Facebook followers since he originally came to our shelter on April 13, 2024 and was kept safe for his owner in hopes that he would eventually be able to take Sprocket if housing/landlord issues were resolved. Sprocket's status was changed to adoptable in early July 2024 since his original owner was unable to take him back. This good-looking boy has a shiny black-and-white medium-haired coat with blue ticking, a long tail with a white tip on the end, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked Blue Heeler face with hopeful trusting eyes, a black button nose, and large erect ears. Sprocket has natural wavy hair. Sprocket has a friendly, outgoing personality. He is good with cats and also with other dogs. Sprocket has a fun-loving disposition and is full of playful puppy-like energy .. And is an accomplished 'fence climber' so he requires a little supervision. These pictures were taken on April 14, 2024 when HSOV Volunteer Emma Dahlgren spent time with him outdoors for his 'glamour photos'. Sprocket posed like a Westminster Show Dog for Emma and also gave her the nicest hugs and sweet kisses. Sprocket weighs 42.6 lbs and walks well on a leash. Sprocket was neutered on July 2, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. This sweet boy went home with a foster family on July 12, 2024 and was officially adopted on July 14, 2024. Sprocket came back to HSOV on October 19, 2024 and is once again looking for the perfect home. His owner reported that Sprocket is still good with other dogs as well as cats ... And he is still an 'accomplished fence climber/jumper' and also exhibits some puppy-like chewing behavior. Sprocket has some separation anxiety issues and does not like to be left alone.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Angel, owner says she is a Red, Blue Heeler, Aussie Mix. Angel is a gentle and loving dog who was surrendered through no fault of her own. Her family, who adored her, had to move and couldn’t take her along. Now at the shelter, Angel is understandably confused and scared as she adjusts to her new surroundings. She is up to date on her vaccines. Although she tested positive for Lyme disease, she isn’t showing any symptoms and is being treated with antibiotics. Her previous family shared that she is great with children, adults, other dogs, and even cats. While she is only "somewhat" house-trained, she is highly intelligent and has been showing us just how smart she is since she arrived. Angel is a very intelligent dog & will do best with a leader who understands the breed and will provide the needed physical & mental stimulation. Angel has all the makings of a wonderful, life-long companion and is ready to find her new forever home. Story
We really outdid ourselves with originality in naming Cattle Dog, or “Cattle D” for not much shorter. Cattle Dog has all the energy and big personality you would expect from a Cattle Dog—he will patrol your yard to protect it from both squirrels and ghosts, but when not under attack from these nefarious villains, he loves to play with his friends and loves giving kisses and hugs and getting attention from his people. He’s a fantastic dog and just the best boy. A physically fenced yard is required. Cattle Dog is available for adoption in Ohio to residents of Ohio.
