Story
Meet Gwen! Poor Gwen was recently adopted, and not even after a week returned. By no fault of her own, her adopter says she “looks too much like a pitbull”.. Poor Gwen wants nothing more than to find a loving home. She’s been at the shelter since June waiting😭 Gwen is a Australian cattle dog mix that is 7 years old and weighs about 65 pounds. Gwen is a sweet older gal, that is pretty laid back. Gwen would love a nice quiet home. Gwen is house broken and will need a home without small children. Gwen will also need a home without cats. Gwen is good with most other dogs. We do require a dog intro with any future k-9 siblings to make sure everyone gets along! Gwen is up to date on her vaccinations, dewormed, flea treated, heartworm tested negative, microchipped & spayed! If you are interested in giving Gwen a forever home please contact the shelter directly at 989-831-7302 to set up an appointment! *All adoptions are done by appointment only*

Story
Did you know that the ivy plant is a symbol of everlasting life, devotion, fidelity and loyalty? An inspiring name for a charismatic pooch such as myself! Being the young lady that I am, an active family would be a match made in heaven! Play time is quite possibly my favorite time of day (sometimes I get a bit carried away with my plushy toys). I like to live life enthusiastically, having a positive direction for my gusto would be the ultimate delight for me! Although physical activity is an absolute riot, having a cool down period with some mental games is a good time too. At the end of the day, I just want to be involved with my people. I am not one to turn down a snuggle session by any means. What can I say, I am a sweetheart after all. I hope to find a family that wants to understand and accepts me for the glorious rescue dog that I am. For instance, I like some other dogs, but not every dog. Smaller dogs (and cats for that matter) remind me of chicken nuggets, I can't help but feel some prey drive there. But some other dogs my own size are fun to hang out and play with. I suppose that its pretty normal to not get along with everyone you meet in life though. Whether or not you are a botanical enthusiast, if you are looking for a forever companion submit your adoption application for the perfect furry addition! DOB: 5/25/2021 For safety's sake, we are looking for homes with physical fenced in areas. Please fill out our online adoption survey at www.mackenzies.info/adopt/adoption-survey-application/

Story
Meet Cooper; She is very sweet girl, who is looking for her fur-ever home. We believe she is around 3-4 years old and is a cattle dog mix. She came to us when her owner passed away and the other owner couldn’t care for her. Due to her breed or mix of breeds we are looking for a very specific home for her where she will be set up best for success! Cooper is pretty reactive towards people on leash and will nip at shins or ankles. She enjoys lots of exercise, biking right now seems to be her favorite. She’d probably do best as an only dog, as loves all the attention on her! She has had some interaction with other dogs on leash and she will correct them if their energy becomes to much for her.   Cooper also needs a kid free home.   We are requiring that her fur-ever home have heeler experience and be committed to getting her the training that she needs. Cooper will also need someone who is willing to do some training with her. **Cooper being a heeler mix does have high herding tendencies, and has a single “bite history” as she nipped someone in the calf.     An approved adoption application is required. The $200 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; and heartworm testing. Our adoption application may be found by going to: www.headinhomerescue.org; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.October 24, 2024, 1:33 pm

Story
We got him from a neighbor as a puppy. They had a blue healer and a stray Labrador came by and got her pregnant. He’s been with us for 4 years approximately. He is extremely loyal and protective, we love him, but he does have some issues. We also have 4 other dogs and for the most part he gets along with them well. He doesn’t care much for our smaller terrier puppy, especially when our female comes into heat, even though he’s fixed. He tends to bark when he hears someone approaching our house or outside. We ultimately can’t give him the home he deserves. He needs to be a farm dog, have space to run and protect. He has great energy and is extremely loyal.

Story
Loving Home Needed for SweetSmart Lilly It breaks our hearts to say this, but we are looking for a new home for our beloved Lilly. She is an incredibly affectionate and intelligent dog who absolutely adores people and children. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will happily go on adventures with you but also cuddle all day, Lilly is your perfect match! She has been professionally trained through Macatawa Dog Training and is very smart. Lilly thrives in an active household and loves long walks, playtime, and exploring. She’s energetic and playful but knows when to settle down and relax. While she isn’t a fan of going into her crate, she does fine once she’s there. The only reason we have to rehome her is that she doesn’t get along with our other dog, and we want to make sure she is in the best environment where she can thrive. She truly is a wonderful, loving dog, and we are committed to finding her a home where she will be loved just as much as we love her.
