Story
Meet Cooper; She is very sweet girl, who is looking for her fur-ever home. We believe she is around 3-4 years old and is a cattle dog mix. She came to us when her owner passed away and the other owner couldn’t care for her. Due to her breed or mix of breeds we are looking for a very specific home for her where she will be set up best for success! Cooper is pretty reactive towards people on leash and will nip at shins or ankles. She enjoys lots of exercise, biking right now seems to be her favorite. She’d probably do best as an only dog, as loves all the attention on her! She has had some interaction with other dogs on leash and she will correct them if their energy becomes to much for her.   Cooper also needs a kid free home.   We are requiring that her fur-ever home have heeler experience and be committed to getting her the training that she needs. Cooper will also need someone who is willing to do some training with her. **Cooper being a heeler mix does have high herding tendencies, and has a single “bite history” as she nipped someone in the calf.     An approved adoption application is required. The $200 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; and heartworm testing. Our adoption application may be found by going to: www.headinhomerescue.org; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.May 11, 2026, 12:18 am

Story
Ruger is a ten year old blue heeler that we got as a puppy from a local breeder. She was born with her grey hairs :) We recently moved and have become busy and she has not transitioned well to this lifestyle change, which is why we have decided to rehome her. She would do best in a home with an active lifestyle that can give her the attention she needs. She is great with kids but would also do well in a quiet home without them. She would make a great farm dog as she lives up to her breed as a blue heeler, and enjoys herding anything that moves. She loves having a "job" to do, she's very intelligent, and trained well. She is called "velcro dog" for a reason, she will never leave your side. She loves snuggling up and sleeping by her people. She loves playing Frisbee, going for hikes, swimming and chasing anything that moves. She is 10 years old and hasn't slowed down a bit. We love her dearly and know she will live her best life where she gets all of the attention and love she deserves.

Story
Name: Maggie Age: 2 Years Gender: Spayed Female Weight: 50 pounds Breed: Heeler Mix Adoption Fee: $250 Am I good with: Kids: Yes Cats: Yes Dogs: Meet and Greet Required About Me: Hi, I'm Maggie, like the name suggests, I'm a classic, dependable girl with a spark of fun! I'm sweet as can be and still have a bit of pep in my step. I love spending time with my people, whether we're out for a walk or just hanging out together. I am heartworm positive, but don't worry, treatment is covered, and I'm already on the path to feeling better. I've got just the right mix of mellow and playful, and I'm ready to be your loyal companion through it all! I have been at the ARP since 6/27/25 and am currently at the rescue. The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

Skippy is a wonderful puppy. He's very high energy. He needs consistency and a little more work with obedience training, but he is so lovable. Skippy would be best in a family home were he gets lots of love and other people and pets to play with. Skippy would request a back yard with room to run.

Arlo is an active 8 yr old, 55 # dog who would prefer a quiet household without the chaos of children. He is kennel trained and has good recall. Great in the car. Loves walks and hikes. He is food motivated and easy to train. Neutered and up to date on vaccines and bloodwork. Great dog for retires and single people who just want a companion. He is all UTD on everything. If anyone would enjoy a dog like this put in your application at www.lakehavenrescue.org.
