Story
Age: 2 years Size: 58 pounds Estimated breed: Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix Spotty needs a home with: resident dog(s), fenced in yard, no young children   Update 7/7:  Spotty is super dog social guy who needs to be with other dogs. He absolutely adores every dog he meets. Spotty is still a little reserved around people but has been making huge strides and seems to improve every day! He has gone through professional training to work on self- confidence and is able to go on walks now and trust more than he used to. Spotty is super submissive and needs a home with a very social dog that will hang out and play with him all day. He loves to play with dogs more than anything. Spotty is also house trained and crate trained. He requires a fenced yard as he can get spooked and we don’t want to take chances of him trying to flee. Spotty has endless potential if you give him the time and patience he needs and deserves to come out of his shell! -------- Spotty is estimated to be about 1.5 years old and 45 pounds. He was found as a stray in SC and was completely petrified at the shelter. He sat in a corner shaking and had to be carried just to move out of his kennel. He came to us very nervous and shy but with the help of his canine friends, he is slowly learning to trust and thriving in his foster home. He has also met and done training with our trainer where he is now comfortable going for walks on a leash and exploring the outdoors!   Spotty gains comfort from other dogs, so he requires a home with a friendly resident dog to help show him the ropes. Spotty would do best in a home without young children as he is still gets timid around new people and retreats. With time and patience, he will show his new family how goofy and happy he really is. All he needs is someone who is understands that just needs a little time to know he is safe. His best quality..... he is AMAZING with other dogs and wants to be their best friend. If you have a dog that has been wanting a sibling, Spotty is your guy!   To adopt Spotty, please apply on our website! www.keytolionsheart.org/adopt   Please note we cannot guarantee the breed or adult size of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training. November 4, 2024, 12:43 pm

Story
Gucci is a 2 month old, heeler /corgi mix who is a bundle of love and energy, weighing in at 7 pounds of pure cuteness. This playful and active pup has all the charm of a typical puppy—full of curiosity, energy, and a love for life. When she’s not busy exploring or zooming around with her toys, Gucci adores snuggling up for some quality cuddle time. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, making her a great addition to a home with furry siblings. Due to her young age, she will need a private yard and not suited for apartment living. The adoption fee for this puppy is $475, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. A $250 spay/neuter deposit is required at time of adoption. This fee covers spay/neuter at one of PetConnect's preferred veterinary partners. If the adopter chooses to use their own veterinarian, the deposit will be returned with proof of sterilization. Story
Melody is a one year old Australian Cattle Dog. She's intelligent, athletic, friendly and super sweet. She seeks her human more than anything else but also doesn't show any signs of separation anxiety, fully crate trained. While ACDs in our care have adoption experience restrictions, Melody seems to be more mellow than most ACDs. She's content doing whatever activity that is planned for the day and settles in quickly. She still needs to be engaged and given a job, and more importantly, supervised around children as this breed will herd kids until guided otherwise with positive reinforcement and consistency. Children are usually not recommended unless parents are experienced with the breed or willing to hear them OUCH across the next zip code. Story
If you are interested in adopting this dog,  please fill out an Adoption Questionnaire at  https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/43315/genericYou can learn about the adoption process by visiting: http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/howtoadopt/.  Dog's Name:   Tex  (TEX1220JNSMN)Estimated Breed:   Cattle Dog MixApproximate Age:  5-6 yearsApproximate Weight:   59 lbs Currently Living at:  BoardingAdoption Fee:  $400DOG'S DESCRIPTION:  Tex is not just your average dog; he's a sweet, affectionate companion eagerly searching for his forever home where he can share his boundless love and energy with a caring family. In his foster home, Tex has been thriving, showcasing his good manners and delightful personality. He's an outgoing pup who adores meeting new people and making furry friends. However, Tex prefers to be the sole dog in his household, and he kindly requests a cat-free environment, too! He will also be too much for small children. If there are kids in the home they should be 10 yrs or older. One of Tex's favorite pastimes is going for car rides, his tail wagging with excitement as he embarks on adventures with his beloved humans. Plus, he's mastered the art of crate training, willingly retreating to his cozy den upon command.Although Tex is an active fellow, he's adaptable and could happily reside in an apartment setting as long as he receives ample exercise and mental stimulation. He's hoping to find a home with someone experienced in handling dogs, someone who understands his needs and is ready to embark on this journey with him.Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.           Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (at partner vet if not fixed before adoption), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, K-9 Lifesavers spend significantly more on each dog than their adoption fee. Adoption fee for HW positive dog also covers heartworm treatment at our partner vets. Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit  http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/  or email our Foster Coordinator at  foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSponsor Me!    Make a  tax-deductible donation  today by visiting us at http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/donate/  . Story
Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.young girl looking for her forever family! TRINITY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Trinity and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (02/02) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria, VA (3351 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22305)!     Name: Trinity       Best Guess for Breed: Australian cattle dog and blue heeler mix     Best Guess for Age:   2 years        SEX:    Female   Approximate Weight:   50 lbs   Gets Along With:    Trinity has lived with other dogs and kids before. We haven’t seen Trinity with cats, but she can be tested! Special Adoption Considerations: Because Trinity is shy, she needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Trinity in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Check out videos of Trinity here: https://youtu.be/Fy-mDvW6ZKo, https://youtu.be/4f65xnUJE2s and https://youtu.be/0CD-rPXoo6U.   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   All About Trinity:     Trinity is a very joyful and fun-loving dog. She is very shy when initially meeting new people and dogs, but warms up after getting to know everyone, especially if the other resident dogs are confident around new people. She obeys the lay down and sit command for treats.  She is a proud graduate of Wholistic Dogs Good Dog 101 training!  Trinity is very loving and affectionate and has been amazing with my elderly mother. She loves to cuddle up with her and get lots of love. She loves to be right with her people and will stick by your side. She enjoys playing with her toys in the house, prancing and tossing them in the air, jumping up, and pouncing on them. Outside, Trinity is always up for walks in the neighborhood, but can easily be spooked by unfamiliar noises.  She goes 'potty' best when out on a walk on a leash. She isn't fond of our townhome's small backyard, but if you have a fenced in yard, she would love it!   Trinity is very social and loves playing with other dogs, she does need a slow intro to other pups as she is shy initially.  She loves doggie day care too. Trinity is cautious around new people when out on walks, as well as with lots of street traffic and loud and sudden noises. While these can startle Trinity she settles fairly easily with some reassurance and would do well with continued exposure to new experiences. Trinity is comfortable with her crate and can sleep through the night in it, but much prefers the comfort of your bed!  We rarely have to crate her when we are away from home.     Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet, sweet girl ISO forever! JENNIE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Jennie and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (02/02) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria, VA (3351 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22305)!  Name:  Jennie      Best Guess for Breed:  Red heeler/cattle dog mix Best Guess for Age:   5.5 years as of January 2025       Gender:   Female Approximate Weight: 36 lbs Gets Along With: Jennie is amazing with other dogs. She has lived with a cat - and a guinea pig! We haven't seen her with kids but she can be tested.  Currently Living At: DC area foster home All about Jennie: Jennie is one of those amazing, special dogs that make you think 'we don't deserve dogs.' She loves her fosters almost beyond belief, and her fosters love her the same way. This is what one of her two fosters says about her: 'When I go out for a couple of hours, she is so excited to see me when I come home and will do baby whines in that 'I am so excited you're back!' way. She is obsessed with licking hands, disinterested in toys, loves snuffle mats and sleeps in the funniest positions & snores the most adorable snore ever. She is perfect in the home. I live in an apartment and I've never heard her bark. She hasn't had an accident in the home. Her recall is fantastic in off leash grassy areas whether I say Jennie or J. Basically she is my perfect work from home partner and is always down to do whatever I do. She lives half of the time with a cat and the other half with my guinea pig, Nibbles, who she likes to watch eat hay & veggies - she is fabulous with both AND with other dogs. At adoption event, she radiates a magnetic and nurturing energy. Shy dogs at those events approach her and want to lay with her on her bed, and she happily shares it with them.'   And this is what the other foster says: 'Sweet, sweet Jennie despite everything she has been through is the sweetest dog we’ve ever cared for. She looks at you with these sweet, innocent puppy dog eyes that melt your soul. She deserves nothing more than a soft girl life, filled with endless love, blankets, and healthy treats. She’s settles into her crate effortlessly, gets along with all dogs (also loves our cat), and is the goodest girl! She’s amazing on leash and is very responsive to any redirections you may give. All she wants to do is please you and be your loving companion, with hopes you’ll love her in return.'   Her fosters can't say enough good things about her. And why does she make us think 'we don't deserve dogs?' The way she is so sweet, so loving, so tender despite what she went through. She landed in a far southern Texas shelter with an awful injury to her leg/paw, and the leg had to be amputated. She's still rebuilding strength and stamina from that. She was also heartworm positive and had to go through treatment.    Jennie deserves all the best. She'd love a home where she can get to enjoy running around in the grass (hard surfaces can be tough for her). She isn't a typical heeler mix (yes, we've seen the jokes about how heelers are the trailer and beer version of the Belgian Malinois) - she has a more gentle energy. Most of all, she would love a home where her humans recognize how special she is and give her what she needs to live her best life in exchange for endless love and adoration and loyalty.   If you think Jennie is exactly what you are looking for - come meet her!  Special Adoption Considerations: Jennie arrived with an injured front leg and had to have it amputated. She gets along well on three legs now. She will need life long care and medication to manage pain and arthritis in her hind quarters (mainly lower back and hind legs). She is predisposed to knee and hips issues and they have to help bear the burden of her missing front limb, so she gets a little tired some days. She has been doing great on a newly modified treatment plan that includes a low dose of steroids to help inflammation and a glucosamine injection every few weeks. This may need to be modified over time with routine check ups with a vet. We've been working diligently to predict her long term prognosis and Jennie's happy spirit keeps us optimisticHeartworm Information: Jennie is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  Jennie has finished the treatment and activity restriction phases. She is now awaiting the 6-month check.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
