This is Chewy, a 3 year old Australian cattle dog who is neutered and vaccinated (with vet records). He is located in Louisville, KY. Chewy is very smart and learns quickly. He is house and crate trained, and he loves to play outside. I have been taking care of him for about a month while trying to find a permanent home, since his original owner’s living situation changed and could no longer keep him. He has learned so much over the past month and I expect him to keep on learning! Chewy is good with other dogs and older children. He has never displayed aggressive behavior. He is looking for someone who is relatively active and has some experience (or is willing to learn) about herding breeds!

Meet Apollo! Apollo is a 5-year-old Cattle Dog mix. If you're looking for the perfect companion, you can choose any adventure you want with this dog. He loves the car so pick a park, pick a kayak, pick a trail - He's ready to go. At home, he's good for zoomies in the yard or settling down for cozies on the couch. He might look a little serious, but he's very affectionate. He's a straightforward dog with simple needs. At his age and maturity level, he does not need to be entertained or exercised all day. He is not a groupie, he just needs his "person", his BFF. Apollo requires a physically fenced in yard and a home without other animals. A graduate of the Paws Behind Bars program, Apollo was awarded the highest praise for his learning. All the volunteers rave how sweet Apollo is and now he is ready for you! LENNOX is a 2 year old, female cattle dog mix. She weighs 39 lbs. She was originally adopted out as a puppy and came back when she hit her "terrible teens". Those days are now long gone and she has blossomed into a lovely, young lady. Our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program was just what she needed. Here, the rules are the rules and slowly, but surely, Lennox started to fall into line. Cattle dogs are a very task driven breed and obedience training was actually what she needed. She also polished up her social skills. Her "perfect fit" home will be an active one with older children. (cattle dogs will always want to herd). A fenced in yard is a must so she can get the proper amount of exercise. She loves people and thrives on obedience and structure. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Say hello to Meeko! Meeko is part Australian cattle dog. He is relentlessly happy. He will always be happy to see. Loves playing outside, with toys, or with other dogs. He is also a great cuddler.  He had a tragic puppyhood. He had a horrible case of mange. He recovered from that, then he got so sick and almost died, but he fought back! Then he was in a bad car wreck but bounced back from that too. He clearly lives life to the fullest and loves everyday after going through those set backs. He is crate trained, and loves crashing hard in his bed while he waits for his person to get home from work. He is also very food motivated, so very trainable, and does great on walks.  He has been healthy, happy and fully vaccinated for some time. His foster home for the last year has had 2 other dogs and a decent size yard for him to blow off some energy. His perfect home would include someone who is as loving as he is, has had experience with energetic dogs in the past, someone who is active, and has a yard so he can run off some of his breeds naturally energy.
