Story
Meet Leona! Leona is a 5 year old cattle dog/pitbull mix. Leona needs a home with no cats or small animals and no small children. She is still very much a puppy and loves to play. She loves people and loves to give kisses. She would do best in a fenced in yard. If you would like to make Leona a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  LEONA'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170   *Due to Covid 19 restrictions some of our new intakes vet scheduling has been delayed. We will still go ahead and schedule your meet and greet even if all the vetting needed has not been completed. Once vetting is complete the approved adopter will be able to take their dog/cat home to their forever home. The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    November 4, 2024, 9:21 am

Story
Say hello to Meeko! Meeko is part Australian cattle dog. He is relentlessly happy. He will always be happy to see. Loves playing outside, with toys, or with other dogs. He is also a great cuddler.  He had a tragic puppyhood. He had a horrible case of mange. He recovered from that, then he got so sick and almost died, but he fought back! Then he was in a bad car wreck but bounced back from that too. He clearly lives life to the fullest and loves everyday after going through those set backs. He is crate trained, and loves crashing hard in his bed while he waits for his person to get home from work. He is also very food motivated, so very trainable, and does great on walks.  He has been healthy, happy and fully vaccinated for some time. His foster home for the last year has had 2 other dogs and a decent size yard for him to blow off some energy. His perfect home would include someone who is as loving as he is, has had experience with energetic dogs in the past, someone who is active, and has a yard so he can run off some of his breeds naturally energy. Story
Hello everyone! Meet Tala! This girl is precious! Don't let her age fool you, she's still got plenty of pep in her step, and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. She loves to go on walks, or spend time chasing her ball. She's also a fan of stuffy toys and of course, treats! Although, we did have to find the right one! She is also a very smart girl! She already knows how to sit, shake, and come. The only request Tala has for her new home is that there are no young children. She has lived with another dog in the past, but as always, we recommend if you have a dog at home bringing them out for a meet-and-greet prior to adoption! Could Tala be the one for you? Give us a call at our Adoption Center at 859-873-5491 to find out more about Tala or to schedule an appointment to meet her!
