Story
Meet Layla!! I am a very special girl named after my foster mom’s niece. I am 12 weeks, 5 lbs and an Aussie Chi mix. I am special girl because I suffered an injury causing me to be blind in one eye. My blue eye also has limited vision. The vet says my eye will need to be monitored but is not causing me any pain. But don’t worry, this hasn’t slowed me down!! I came up from Texas with my sister who did a great job looking out for me, but she’s just a puppy herself and needs someone to protect her. I have a fierce personality and am brave beyond my years. My favorite things are wrestling my Fosters golden, running around the neighborhood on my walks and playing with the other foster puppies. I get along with everyone and love to start the wrestling matches. I also like to sneak off to curl up next to the golden. Because of my vision, I like to taste things to explore them, my forever family will need to understand how to work with me to keep me safe and build even more confidence. I very much rely on other dogs, verbal commands and touch to reassure me that people won’t hurt me. I love kids too but they need to understand how I explore with my mouth. I am learning no bite, kisses, off, sit, touch, and walk nice. Like my sister, I am a true athlete! She’s got a few pounds on me but I am faster, more agile and can jump off anything! I also love to dig! My foster mom has to keep switching up my gates because I like to escape and run through the house. I also crawl underneath couches. My family will need to stay on their toes!! I would do best with a fenced yard as well due to my limited vision so I can run without worry! While balls and playing are great, the best thing is when my foster mom holds me. I love to cuddle and snuggle and get belly rubs. She tells me up so I don’t get scared anymore! I even let kids hold me! I am learning potty training and better than my sister (don’t tell her)! And sleep with her at night in our playpen. My dream family has other dogs, fenced yard and is active!! Older kids might be better due to my challenges however I did great with toddlers when I met them. Are you my perfect family? Hi, I'm Buster. Thanks for taking a look at me! I know my cute face is irresistible, but remember that I will take up lots of your time and attention while I grow into an awesome adult dog. Socialization, training (including house training), and exercise are just a few of the things I will look to you for. Chewing, teething, and learning what is Okay and not Okay to put in my mouth are all part of the puppy experience. And, be prepared for the time and money for frequent trips to the vet during the first few months so I can get up to date on my boosters and vaccines. But most of all, be prepared for all of the LOVE, puppy kisses, and joy I will bring into your life. If you are up for the challenge and the fun, stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. Story
Hi, I'm Spike! Thanks for checking me out! I know my cute face is hard to resist, but here's the scoop: I'll need a lot of your time and attention as I grow up into the amazing adult dog I'm destined to be! I'm looking for a forever family that will help me with socialization, training (yes, that includes house training!), and plenty of exercise. And let's not forget the chewing and teething-I'm still learning what's okay (and what's definitely not okay) to put in my mouth. So, be ready for some puppy-proofing! Don't forget those vet visits! I'll need to stay up to date on my boosters and vaccines, which means a few trips to see my favorite vet in the first few months. But trust me, all that effort will be worth it when you experience the endless love, puppy kisses, and pure joy I'll bring into your life. So, if you're up for the challenge and the fun, why not come meet me in person? Stop by during our adoption hours. For more details, email info@ahconnects.org or give us a call at 847-697-2880 x: 0. The friendly folks here will be happy to answer all your questions! Can't wait to meet you and start our adventure together! Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Story
Meet Penny Formerly Known as Porsia: Ready for Her Forever Home! Hi, I'm Penny! I'm just over 1 year old, around 40 pounds, and I recently made my way up from Texas with my adorable puppies. I was a great mama, but now that my pups are weaned, it's my turn to find a forever family to call my own! I may be part Australian Shepherd or Kelpie—whatever my mix, one thing's for sure: I'm stunning! With one blue eye and one brown eye, I’m quite the head-turner. In my foster home, I live with kids and another dog, and I absolutely love them both. I’m still young, so sometimes I get a little too excited and jump up, but my foster family is helping me work on that. I'm doing great with potty training—when I go outside, I do my business right away. I love toys and playing fetch! I’ll bring the ball back to you every time, ready for another throw. I’m also super affectionate; I enjoy giving kisses and cuddling up on the couch. At night and during the day when my foster family is out, I rest in my crate. I might whine for a couple of minutes when I first go in, but I quickly settle down and sleep peacefully through the night. I’d love to find a family of my own—hopefully just in time for the holidays. If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and beautiful companion, I’m your girl. Let’s make this season one to remember. Ready to meet Penny? Fill out an application and make her dream of a forever home come true! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). .
