Story
Meet Ashlynn Ashlynn is a gorgeous girl. She is eight years young and deserves a second chance after being at our shelter for over two years. Thrown away, Ashlynn was rescued from a high kill shelter where she was on the kill list due to her having heartworms. Heartworm positive dogs are some of the first to be euthanized. Heartworms are completely preventable and expensive to treat. But we have successfully treated Ashlynn and she is fully healthy. Ashlynn is thought to be a blue heeler/terrier mix. She is a medium size girl at just 42 lbs. She is a high energy dog and will do best with an active family. She is alert and super intelligent. She is upbeat and friendly. She will be a loyal and dedicated fur baby companion. Ashlyn is selective with dogs and will chase a cat, so she will be adopted to a home with no other pets. She knows some commands, like sit. Her whole face lights up when someone comes out to throw a tennis ball with her. Ashlynn enjoys being with people, she is almost the female version of our Oscar, long overlooked but now thriving in a quiet home. She has responded to the attention she is receiving after so many years of neglect. She especially seems to enjoy one to one attention with her person away from the shelter where she feels safe. She is a sweet girl and every day she blossoms a little more. Ashlynn enjoys riding in a car and quietly curls up for the ride. We truly think that Ashlynn has never known a happy life or was cared for. The kindness and safety she receives at our shelter is all new to her and she is soaking it all up! We can tell that she wants to make a connection with a kind person. Ashlynn is a gem and with the right person/family she is going to be amazing. She could use a soft landing in her life. Will you be the one to give it to her? If interested in Ashlynn, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Meet Oakley This handsome young dog is Oakley. We rescued Oakley from a high kill shelter. Like so many other dogs, Oakley and his sister Opal, were in serious danger of being euthanized, until we could get them to the safety of our shelter. Once they arrived, we realized that both puppies were visually impaired and completely terrified. Since arriving, Oakley has made great progress and he’s ready to find his forever home. Oakley is a 1 1/2 years old terrier/cattle dog mix. He’s small in stature, with a gorgeous black and white coat. We think Oakley can see shadows. A special volunteer has been working with him and Oakley loves his person. He’s learned to trust. He’s learned to walk on a leash and he enjoys being outside, especially on a sunny day where he can feel the sun’s warmth. Because of his fears, Oakley will need to be the only pet in a home, with no children. Oakley is going to thrive away from the shelter. He’ll do best in a quiet home with people he trusts. This sweet dog has been through so many scary things in his life, he just needs a second chance to know what love and kindness are. A family who can show him will be richly rewarded. If interested in Oakley, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. Story
Meet Boscoe Handsome Boscoe is a wonderful young dog at nearly four years old. Boscoe was fostered early on and we’ve been looking for his furever home. Boscoe is thought to be an Australian cattle dog/husky mix and he may even have chihuahua in him. He weighs only 51 lbs. He is smaller in size than his pictures look. His fosters spent a good amount of time with him, showing him love and kindness and doing some basic training with him. As a result of their love, Boscoe is super sweet and affectionate. He is very friendly with a great temperament. He loves being with people. He is mostly house-trained but may need some reminders once in a stable home. He is energetic and will do best with an active person or family. He loves running in the play yards. A fence will be necessary for him to run and play safely. He enjoys car rides and walks well on a leash. Boscoe will make for a fantastic running buddy or hiking partner. Sadly, he’s resigning himself to the shelter. It’s not the best environment for one so sensitive and happy-go-lucky. We think he struggles around other dogs, but it could just be the noisy environment. Boscoe is a gem. If interested in welcoming a handsome and great dog to your heart and home, Boscoe may be the one. If interested in Boscoe, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. Story
Meet Toto! A 60 pound goofball that loves squeaky toys and throwing them and twirling them in the air! Toto will be one year old this coming January. He loves playing with other dogs, but also LOVES being the center of attention, so he would do fine as an only dog. A home with a male dog that is similar size, energy level and play style would work also. No kitties please as he thinks they are fun to pester! He requires a fenced yard for outdoor playtime. Toto would do best in a home with older children. He is crate trained and potty trained. Toto walks well on a leash and is ready for any adventure you are! Whether it be a trip to Petco, Home Depot or a walk on the beach... he's ready! Car rides are his absolute favorite!! At the end of the day, he likes to snuggle on the couch for some quiet time. Toto is a good boy that wants to share his life with his forever family. If you think you might be the family he's looking for, please fill out an application and make his day. You won't be disappointed! Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies. Your Current Pets - We do require that your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption. Inquiries - If you would like more information on any dogs in the rescue, please email us at info@herorescue.org.

Story
Interview with Dash:Interviewer: How did you arrive to the Animal Shelter? Dash: Well, I was walking down the street looking for leftover Thanksgiving scraps when I noticed that someone pulled their vehicle over to the side of the road. I assumed they had some scraps for me, so I walked up to them and jumped into their vehicle and guess what, no scraps, how rude!!!! The man who picked me up told me that he didn’t want me to get hurt and took me to the Animal Shelter. Interviewer: Did you like being at the Animal Shelter? Dash: At first no, because there were a lot of rowdy dogs in the area I was staying at. It scared me a bit and I just stayed to myself, but then one day I went out for a walk and they put me in the Administrative Supervisors office, which was awesome. I went from a small apartment to a condo! A big upgrade. Interviewer: What has changed since you arrived at the Animal Shelter?Dash: A lot has changed! When I arrived at the Shelter, I was heartworm positive. I went into a foster home while going through my treatment. Thankfully, my treatment has been completed and starting March 15th, I can return to my normal activities, like playing fetch with a tennis ball and going for long walks! I cannot wait, I’m so excited for this day to arrive. Also, my foster parent wanted to adopt me, which I was super excited about because she has been one of the best foster parents that any dog could ask for, but unfortunately with inflation and being on a limited income, she cannot adopt me. But that’s okay because my forever family is out there, I just know it.Interviewer: What do you look for in a family?Dash: Okay, I am going to be a little picky here. I am a woman’s man, but if the woman I adore has a man in her home, I’ll be okay with that ONLY under these circumstances: 1) Men like to wear these weird things on their heads that scare me sometimes. My foster parent told me those are called “hats”. Not sure what they do, but they sure do scare me and prefer they not be worn when I’m around. 2)No loud power tools in my presence. Those things scare me too.Other than those 2 circumstances, I should be perfectly fine with a male in the home. What will not work for me is children. They scare me as well. Anytime I get scared, I tend to nip at their shoes. I guess it’s the Heeler in me that makes me do that. I am not a fan of cats and I have never met a dog before, so I`m not sure how I`d do with them.Inter
