Please contact Chandler Jaffe (chandler.jaffe@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.happy young girl ready to play! DELILAH NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Delilah Best Guess for Breed: Heeler and Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 4.5 years as of September 2024 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 36 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! She also lives with a 7-year old child and is doing very well! We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested. Currently Living At: DC area foster home. Special Adoption Considerations: Delilah is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Delilah is Looking For: Her forever home! She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own, and can't wait to once again have her own humans. Says she hasn't seen enough of the world yet. She's eager for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures her new family can dream up. What My Foster Says About Me: Delilah is a true social butterfly. She wants to greet every human and dog that she sees with lots of kisses. She's also done amazing with the foster's 7-year old son, they play non-stop together. She has a very gentle and playful demeanor. She is high energy and will need an active family who can provide her lots of walks, playtime, and enrichment. Fetch is her favorite! She's making excellent progress with house training and has been doing well in the crate too! She's picking up basic commands quickly - she is very smart. She is still getting the hang of walking on a leash but is a smart girl and will pick it up with some training! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
