Story
I am the most loyal doggo you will ever meet. If you don't want a shadow following you around in the shape of me, I'm not the dog for you. My favorite thing to do is play fetch outside. My humans say that I would literally collapse from exhaustion before I'd quit playing ball. I love to go for walks, get pets, and cuddle whenever possible. I do bark sometimes, but how else would I look out for you? I really am a lover, and just want to be the best boy I can be. A home with older children would be best. I have a lot of training and I learn new skills really quickly. I love being a working dog so give me a task or something to do and I'm on it. I lack manners at times, I like to barge through doors or open ones that are supposed to be closed but mainly because I just want to be involved. I've lived with other dogs, but I'd been around them multiple times (or grew up with them) so I'd suggest a slow and low energy introduction. Dog parks make me nervous and I can be reactive on leash to other dogs, so it's best that I don't go on walks with a lot of paw traffic or large crowds. I currently live with two children, under the age of two and frankly it stresses me out. Their quick movements, loud actions, and unpredictable behavior coupled with my breed as a herding dog, make it really hard for me to thrive in this environment. Older kids, where I can cuddle and they act more low key would probably be a better environment for me. I think the best place for me would be an older home, and possibly one where I can be spoiled rotten. I'm a comfort body so one that lets me on the couch and sleep in bed. Maybe a place with property so I can run around and cause trouble. I need a home with a lot of patience and love, because I need a lot and give a lot. I know how much my mom loves me, she's been my best friend since I was born and I know she's trying to give me the best chance to have the happiest life! I'd do best in a home with older children. My adoption fee includes a training program specific to my needs.

Jewel is One Gem of an Adventure Companion! Meet magnificent Jewel, a gorgeous 3 year old white heeler mix eager for fun! This active girl loves going on walks and making new furry friends along the way. Though she looks robust, Jewel enjoys keeping busy and will thrive in an equally energetic home. After playtime, this sweet girl is quite the cuddle bug, content to lazily chew on a toy or soak up some sunshine while resting. Jewel spent most of her recent life as a solo dog and will need some socialization to newcomers both human and animal. But she warms up quickly with proper introductions. Outgoing Jewel rides nicely in the car and makes an excellent alert companion, letting her people know whenever someone is at the door. All she wants is an active family to call her own that gives her plenty of devotion, playtime, and adventure together. Jewel will turn 3 in March - what better present than finding her happy furever home at last! If you’re seeking a loyal dog with just as much tenacious spirit as snuggly affection to give, look no further than darling Jewel! Story
Meet Rex, a spirited Mini Australian Shepherd mixed with Australian Cattle Dog who is brimming with friendliness and boundless energy. This little guy loves people and eagerly approaches humans, soaking up all the pets he can get with a wagging tail. Food-motivated and curious, Rex is a quick learner, making him a great candidate for training. With other dogs, Rex is playful and loves a good romp, though he sometimes gets a bit overstimulated and benefits from a break to keep things calm. He'd thrive with a dog friend who shares his energetic nature and can join him for outdoor adventures. Rex walks well on a leash and would love a family that can give him the daily exercise he craves-whether hiking, running, or just exploring the world together.Rex may be small, but his adventurous spirit and big heart are ready to bring joy and excitement to his forever family. He's waiting to be the love of someone's life!- - - - -Before being rescued, many of our dogs have had limited socialization, so they may need a bit of time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Keats is approximately 1 1/2-2 years old, likely a cattle dog/border collie mix with possibly Jack Russell Terrier thrown in. He was found chained outside a gas station in the middle of nowhere, dirty, malnourished, full of worms, missing patches of hair and with dozens of bite wounds on his head and neck. He is fully recovered from his injuries and ready to find a family to call his own. He has shown remarkable resilience, easily trusting people and other dogs and becoming a happy and confident pup. His robust personality is definitely more on the cattle dog/terrier side. At 32 lbs, he is the perfect size. Overall he is a very easy dog and will make a great hiking partner and companion. Keats is the perfect size for car or van travel and camping and does well riding in vehicles. He doesn't show a propensity for dog sports, as his favorite dog sports are belly rubs and squirrel watching. He loves to go for walks and is also content to lay around the house with his people. Despite is probably breed mix, he is a very moderate energy dog. Keats walks well on a leash. He enjoys playing with other dogs, although his play needs are more of an adult dog and a puppy is a bit much for him. He doesn’t correct excessive play but he does try to disengage when it becomes too much. Keats is housetrained and also does well in a crate. He prefers his potty breaks on walks as opposed to in his yard. ** He is not a dog that can be in a yard without a leash or longline, because he will look for ways to escape and can scale a 6 ft fence and slip through iron fences. ** But he really prefers to be inside on the couch with his people or watching out the window. It is possible this may resolve as his hormones subside, but it is also possible that it is a result of the terrier in his DNA. He has not been tested with cats or children, so a home without small children is best because he startles easily and cats would need to be tested. He is fine in a home with other dogs who are a match for his personality also would be ok as an only dog. He does not resource guard food or toys with people but does so mildly with other dogs so this would need to be managed. He does like to be the center of attention with people and will place himself accordingly. Keats is being fostered near Colorado Springs. In-state adoption preferred but may consider out-of-state adoptions with the right match.

Story
Meet Tecca, Tecca is a super sweet girl that found herself in a high kill shelter in New Mexico and no one to come claim her. Her time was up in the shelter so to save her we brought her here to Colorado. Tecca is a super sweet girl that is shy at first but loves everyone she meets. She is only about 45 lbs and estimated to be around 4 1/2 years old. Tecca's DNA results are back and she is not a Doberman or even a Doberman Mix. We are a little shocked by the results but she is Malamute, Staffordshire , Cattle Dog mix....but we are pretty skeptical of those results to say the least with her size lol. Tecca is good with other dogs, kids that are respectful of dog space and cats. Tecca is also already house trained and does well in crates. Tecca has been spayed and then we found out that someone shot her several times with air rifle pellets. The pellets that could be removed have been but there are three left. Tecca does require a home with no chickens, ducks or other pet birds. Unless they can be kept completely safe from dogs. Tecca is also looking for a new foster due to her dislike of birds. To apply to foster Tecca please go to www.savingdobermankind.org/foster-application To apply to adopt Tecca please go to www.savingdobermankind.org/adoption-application All animals adopted from us are fully vetted including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, heartworm test and deworming. Story
Winter was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2212379##

Story
Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! From the foster: Steller is a gorgeous Australian Cattle Dog (blue heeler) who was unlucky enough to be impounded as a stray while heavily pregnant in a local Colorado shelter. Sadly, an owner never claimed her so Colorado Puppy Rescue scooped her up to foster and settled her in our home so she could have and raise her babies. Steller did a great job of that, so it's her turn to shine now! We are already a cattle dog-loving family and she has been very easy to fall in love with, an instant friend to all the people in our tribe, kids (ages 5 and 2.5 included) included. Cattle dogs aren't always known for their friendliness to strangers, but don't tell Steller that, she is simply the sweetest to everyone she meets. Steller loves affection, from plopping over for belly rubs to climbing in your lap, she'll take every ounce of attention you give her, a true love sponge! Additional reasons to adore her include pretty reliable manners around the house, aced crate training 101, a deep love of the couch and sleeping upside down, and a nice "off" switch for when she isn't running around outside chasing her favorite blue herding ball. And don't worry, that comes with her to her adoptive home, it's kind of a package deal for her. She loves to play and makes an excellent soccer training buddy, good luck getting the ball past her, she's megged me on many occasions! So a little more about Steller is that she does naturally have strong herding instincts, incredible loyalty, smarts, and a touch of stubbornness that is usually eventually overcome by her desire to please. It doesn't appear that Steller has had much prior training, or socialization around other dogs. Because of this, a home with knowledge of the breed will be beneficial as she does display the desire to chase (herd) fast moving objects, especially those with wheels, but also really anything that runs or flies (no chickens please!). She's been fostered with young kids and done really well for the most part, just an occasional jump on them when they get loud and excited. She's been fostered with other dogs and so far her opinion on them has been inconsistent and at this time it is recommended she go to a home without other dogs or small critters. We're not sure if it is hormone related with her pregnancy and pups, but either way her behavior towards other dogs is noteworthy. It has ranged from fairly friendly and playful to start, but once actually engaged in play, Steller can quickly get overstimulated and react negatively. She is not usually overtly aggressive, but has exhibited resource guarding over toys and what she perceives as her own space. Steller will appreciate a calm environment and could really benefit from obedience training to utilize her smarts, help her bond with her new people, and help ease her discomfort around other dog energy. Steller is truly remarkable, her resolve and gracious demeanor towards people, despite being failed at the shelter amazes me. She's melted our hearts and we are blessed to have been her landing pad here for the past two months. She's ready to launch some new adventures with a family of her very own who will love her and never let her down again. www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt

Story
I am a 4yr old Australian Shepard mix and I am sweet, gentle, soft, fluffy pup and I'm ready for an adventure! I get a little nervous meeting new people, but once I trust you, I expect butt scratches right away- and if you stop scratching me, I'll remind you to please continue. I like my personal space, but I equally love hugs and kisses at the right time too. I love my kennel, I use it for naps and sometimes to sleep at night, or just to feel safe. I have a very silly personality and sometimes when I shake my head my tongue flops out since I'm missing a tooth- it's a cool trick of mine. I love sleeping and playing with my two other dog siblings all day. I also have super cool eyes, but they just need some eyedrops everyday so that I can see better, but I'll just lay here while you put them in for me! I love being outside, especially with a few inches of snow on my back in a little dirt bed I made myself. Hiking, camping, rock climbing- lets go! I'm always looking for a reason to get on my harness and get out of the house to explore and I love a car ride! Dog parks are some of my favorite places to be and I love swimming in creeks too. I am kennel/potty trained and know all my basic commands. I'm still working on my leash manners and reactivity. I'm not very food motivated with training but I'll do just about anything for some butt scratches! (and maybe I'll do my butt scratch tap dance for you if I REALLY like you) I love living with other dogs but I'd do best in a home without cats. I haven't warmed up to small children/babies just yet. Sometimes when our baby wants to play with me, but I don't want to play with her, I get a little upset and leave. It would be ideal that any children in the home would be old enough to understand my boundaries. Children 13 years old and older might be best. My mom gets me super durable bones and toys to play with and LOTS of bouncy balls for fetch- my favorite! My ideal home could have dogs or could not- I am happy either way. It would also be a place where I got a lot of love and pets, lots and lots of adventures and outdoor time, and a mom and/or dad who just want to spoil me. I'd do best without cats in the home and with children 13 years of age or older. My adoption fee includes a personalized training program.

Highlights: -Needs another more confident dog already established in the home -Would do best with a fenced yard -Prefers older children Meet Millie, a 27 pound girl! Though shy with new people, Millie blossoms into a social butterfly with people she trusts. She excitedly play bows and does the most adorable zoomies around her familiar human friends, grinning and hopping around joyfully. She can also be seen wagging her rear and tossing around a toy from time to time. Millie does well with other dogs and is comforted by their presence. Though she prefers they respect her personal space while she gets to know them, she becomes a total goofball and is very playful once she's comfortable with another dog. Millie would do best in a home with a canine sibling to help her adjust to her new life.Because she can be skittish at first, Millie would do best in a home with a fenced yard. We recommend a home with no young children as she prefers a quiet, calmer environment. Millie will thrive in a patient home with another confident dog. She has so much joy in her heart and lots of love to give to her forever family! If you would like a chance to be Millie's family and watch her blossom, please apply at NMDR.org.- - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization.
