Story
Meet Goose! A spirited three-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix currently living in Berkeley, CA, whose essence is a delightful blend of speckled charm, boundless energy, and sun-soaked silliness. With her tan and white coat speckled like a giraffe and a face full of expression, Goose is 55 pounds of brains, goof, and love! She’s incredibly affectionate, curious, and energetic—true to her working-dog roots—and thrives when she has space to roam, explore, and play. Her absolute happiest moments happen in open areas with other dogs, whether she’s at doggy daycare, on group hikes, or galloping across her favorite 17-acre off-leash dog park. She’s got a floppy, cuddly side too, especially in the evenings, when she transforms into a snugglebug ready to curl up beside you! Goose has been through formal training and knows a wide variety of commands including “sit,” “come,” “leave it,” “touch,” and “place.” She has great recall and is eager to please, especially if treats are involved. But she is also highly sensitive to certain city-life triggers like scooters, skateboards, and sudden movements. She has been reactive when startled by things like people with assistive devices or rolling luggage, and she once had a bite incident during a trail walk when a passing bicyclist spooked her. It was an isolated, unreported event—Goose immediately retreated to her dog walker afterward—but it highlights her need for a calmer, more predictable environment. This clever girl would flourish in a rural or countryside home with a large, securely fenced yard, another friendly dog or two, and a guardian who understands the needs of sensitive, reactive pups. Goose is good with older kids, but due to her tendency to get jumpy and mouthy when excited, a home without young children is best. Goose has a high prey drive and tends to chase cats, squirrels, and birds. That said, she's recently started coexisting peacefully with farm cats and chickens at her boarder’s rural property—proof that with the right environment and routine, she can settle into life alongside other animals. She is crate trained, house-trained, vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. She’ll come with her crate, cozy bed, favorite stuffies, and enrichment toys—all the comforts of home, ready to go! Could your peaceful, dog-loving space be the perfect fit for Goose’s big heart and joyful spirit? Email adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about welcoming this sweet, speckled girl into your life!

Story
Meet Scooby! A lively one-and-a-half-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/Belgian Malinois/Whippet mix currently living in Tustin, CA, whose boundless energy and affectionate nature make him an incredible companion for the right home. Wrapped in a sleek black-and-tan coat, this playful pup is most comfortable and playful in familiar environments. While he loves to explore and have fun, he can be cautious in new situations and needs a little time to warm up before fully diving into the adventure. Once he feels secure, though, he’s ready to match the energy of his canine friends at the dog park, big or small. He could run for an hour (or more!) and still come home eager for more playtime. Scooby is a smart boy who already knows commands like sit, down, stay, and go to your mat, but he thrives in a calm and consistent environment where he can continue learning at his own pace. While he’s eager to bond, he tends to be hesitant around new people at first. However, once he trusts you, you’ll have a loyal, affectionate companion who loves to cuddle! He’s done great with older kids (ages 10-17) and has been gentle with an elderly family member. This high-energy pup does well with other dogs and enjoys their company, but he can be possessive over high-value treats like bones. Mealtime has been peaceful in his current home as long as food bowls are kept separate. When it comes to cats, though, Scooby doesn’t quite understand that they don’t want to play like dogs do, so a cat-free home would be best. He’s also shown a strong prey drive toward smaller animals like birds and rabbits, making a home without small pets the ideal fit. Scooby is crate trained and sees it as his safe space, especially when new guests arrive. He’s mostly house-trained, though he may have occasional small accidents when overly excited or nervous. He has a sensitive stomach and benefits from probiotics and antacids, as certain foods (especially dairy) don’t sit well with him. If you have a quiet home, patience, and plenty of space for an energetic dog to run and play, Scooby could be the perfect match for you! Reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about Scooby today.

Meet Puppy! A spirited almost four-year-old Australian Cattle Dog and Shepherd mix currently in San Diego, CA, whose energy and heart are as big as her dreams of finding a forever family. With her fawn brindle coat adorned with white accents and spotted paws that seem to dance when she's excited, Puppy is the definition of a fun-loving, goofy companion who is always ready to brighten up your day! This incredible girl has come a long way from her early days and has blossomed into a bundle of love and joy. She's earned a "Basic Obedience" certificate and knows commands like "Place," "Heel," and "Sit" like a pro, proving just how smart and trainable she is. Puppy thrives on learning new tricks, and her eagerness to please makes her a joy to train and bond with. Her playful spirit is infectious, and she loves being around people—she’s as friendly with strangers as she is with her trusted humans! Puppy gets along well with her current dog and cat friends, showing that she's got a lovely side that loves company and companionship. With a special bond with children, she’s become fast friends with a toddler in her current family. However, her high energy and a few quirks make her best suited to a home with older children who understand her need for personal space, especially around food. True to her mix of breeds, Puppy has that classic, joyful stubbornness that’s common in Australian Cattle Dogs. Her goofy antics and steadfast loyalty will keep you smiling, but she’s also got a strong personality that needs a confident, understanding caregiver. Puppy does face challenges with resource-guarding, especially around food, and may snap if she feels her food is at risk. She’s an incredibly loving dog with much to give, but she thrives with a family who can provide the training and understanding to help her manage these tendencies positively. Her ideal family would also provide an active lifestyle with lots of exercise, a fenced yard, and a commitment to help her grow in confidence and trust. Are you ready to add a unique, lovable companion to your life? Puppy’s waiting with a wagging tail and all the cuddles you could ever hope for! To make sure that Puppy has a great start with her new family, we have a canine behaviorist available for a free consultation. Email adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about making her a cherished member of your family. Could you be the one to give her the loving, energetic home she’s been searching for? Meet Macks, a 5-year-old Cattle Dog/Shepherd mix with a heart full of potential and a loving spirit. Macks was surrendered to a high-kill shelter after her previous owner passed away, and she’s now looking for a new family to give her the love and stability she deserves. Initially anxious and a bit flighty, Macks requires some time to build trust. However, once she feels secure, she becomes an incredibly affectionate and well-behaved companion. Macks is not fond of other dogs or cats, so she would do best in a home where she can be the only pet. She will thrive in a household with middle school-aged children or older, or with adults who can provide her with the patience and care she needs to feel at ease. If you're looking for a loyal and loving dog who will become deeply attached to her new family, Macks is ready to bring her devotion and warmth into your home.

Story
Meet Claire! A spirited seven-year-old Miniature Australian Shepherd and Chihuahua mix currently in Los Angeles, CA, whose essence is a joyful swirl of affection, sass, and soft-as-silk chocolate brown fur with the sweetest white accents. Claire is the kind of pup who makes every moment feel like a celebration! Whether she's trotting proudly on a walk or cozying up at home, she brings playful charm and heartfelt loyalty to every interaction. At about 20 pounds, she’s the perfect size for lap snuggles and car rides, and let’s just say, she thinks everyone she meets is already her best friend. Strangers? No such thing! Claire is convinced the world is full of potential belly rubs. This smart cookie already knows commands like sit, stay, lie down, shake, drop it, leave it, and even “touch” and “be nice”. Yep, she’ll delicately take a treat from your hand like a true lady. Her favorite things? Walks (with treats on hand to help her stay focused), squeaky toys, and keeping close to her favorite humans. She’s a classic velcro dog, always nearby, always devoted, and always ready to brighten your day! Claire thrives with structure, consistency, and someone who understands dog behavior. While she can be reactive on leash, especially when unfamiliar dogs are around, this is easily managed with positive reinforcement, and when walking with dogs she knows, she’s a total pro. Off-leash, she’s relaxed, social, and loves a good zoom around the yard. Indoors, she’s gentle and calm, especially with familiar pets. She’s also had a unique health journey: as a puppy, she was diagnosed with kennel cough, but later x-rays revealed she had bronchitis. While this doesn’t affect her daily life or require active treatment, her breathing can become slightly heavier when she’s excited. To keep her comfortable, she wears a harness instead of a collar, and it suits her perfectly! She’s friendly with cats (especially playful ones!) and gets along with other dogs once she has a little time to warm up. Because of her bouncy nature, she'd do best in a home where toddlers are supervised, but she’s joyful around kids and thrives in an attentive, present household. A yard would be a dream for her, and she'd flourish in a home where someone is around for most of the day. Claire’s affection knows no bounds, just be warned, she might try to sneak a surprise kiss when you least expect it! Are you ready to welcome this sweet, silly girl into your heart and home?
