Her rescuers were an older couple who took Katy home and made her part of the family which includes 3 other dogs. Not cat tested. Okay with older dog savvy kids. Good house manners. Housebroken but never crated because she doesn’t need to be. Obeys basic commands. Loves to be with her people. Initially, Katy tested positive for heartworms but she was treated without complications and cured. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 50 pounds. Here’s some info from Katy’s rescuer/owner: We found Katy near a busy intersection 10 months ago and decided to keep her but we have 3 high energy dogs and our female recently started picking on Katy. For Katy's sake, we think she is better suited in a much lower energy environment. She’s rather uninterested and indifferent when it comes to other dogs and doesn’t seem to care about her place in the pack. She is fine to co-exist with other dogs, but does not seem to want to engage in play that much. So, she would not be an ideal candidate for an adopter who specifically wants an active playmate for their first dog. Katy wants a calm environment. If she sees other dogs play fighting, she becomes a “hall monitor” and tries to stop them. If a dog runs past her, she’ll sometimes try to grab them, not in an aggressive way, but just to calm them down like a hall monitor would. (That’s the cattle dog in her!). We let Katy spend the night with a friend who has a dog. Everything was fine until the dog next door came over to play and out came the hall monitor. Katy is a sweet, happy, respectful, and low energy dog. She likes giving and receiving affection, but it’s best to invite her to come to you for affection instead of going in for a big hug. If you get down on her level, she’ll come to you. She doesn’t like sudden, unexpected intrusions into her space. She prefers being pet instead of hugs. Her ideal adopter would be an adult couple or single that wants a happy walking buddy or just a sweet companion. A calm, low energy environment. No small children. Older teenagers might be fine as long as they respect Katy’s issue with space. No other dogs or maximum one low energy dog.
